i like this version, but i'm curious. why did he change the lyrics? the first part of the song is supposed to be, when you coming home dad. then the second half is supposed to be when you coming home son .
great song my brother niall seems to really relate to this song even though he dosnt drive everything else is just like when he grew up so this song is emotional he also dosnt have kids
excelente cancion, triste, me recuerda cuando era niño y los momentos que pasé con mi padre, ahora tengo 34 y por mi trabajo vivo en otra ciudad, me he puesto tan nostálgico, a punto de las lagrimas
looks like this song simply describes my life up and down and i feel sad listening to it but good thing it gives you a lot to think about, may be there's still a chance to pop in and say hi,have a nice chat with your folks while they are still arround.Forget all your family problems and realise the time is flying and you're not getting it back ever.Wish it was that easy in real life, cos of all family figths, mistakes and misunderstadings which make it hard, but one should try anyway!!!so...
I love this band. I wish they were still playing around here I actually live in Isla Vista where they started out... but this song makes me sad on many levels and it's not because I miss my dad or anything like that because he is a monster- but there's just something about the message... I can relate to it on many levels as I'm sure all of you can. It means something different to me.
A song like this seems to evoke the same emotion in all of us. Funny that cause I have no parents and no children yet I seem to feel the same as everyone else. Funny that eh.
Powerful song.....we're at the end of it...sitting here wishing for a phone call...but they're busy trying to make a living and time for their kids...but that's okay.
this song really sends a message to fathers that turn down their sons just like in this video. i live this song so much it makes me cry and think about my dad. =(
very interesting cover. one thing about Chapin is that his songs usually had a message. With this one, I suppose the message is to strive to give your children a better childhood than what you had.

Sad...
I seriously LOVE this song, and I mean especially this version. With the subtitles I have to say, good job!
It really does me something. It's almost same situation here.. have a good time with my dad, always, IF he's home. But most of time he isn't D':
