  • would have liked to see a before and after map/photo

  • I didn't know Wille E. Coyote will go that far

  • This is great. I like how the people are just like fuck you birds!

  • would anyone be kind enough to explain what kind of restoration measure is this?

  • wow! omfg! id like to be on there when the bombs exploded:D

  • Anyone interested in coastal restoration efforts should get involved with America's WETLAND: Campaign to Save Coastal Louisiana. The foundation works to raise public awareness of the impact Louisianas wetland loss has on the state, nation and world and to gain support for efforts to conserve and save coastal Louisiana. Check out the video "Washing Away" and support AWF by subscribing to the channel "marmillionco."

  • yeah i think so Nah gave me a weeks worth of lols

  • Simply awesome

  • REsponse to Fotiphoto's/Ghettoghangster's Inane,Unintelligent Obnoxious,Toxic,Retarded Replies/Retorts. • Adding a significant tax on gasoline, and using that money only to subsidize the purchase of clean and fuel efficient cars will solve two major problems.

The worlds car manufactures would follow the demand and make a huge shift to producing the most subsidized cars.

The US would quickly reduce our oil imports.

Help to avoid catastrophic climate change.

  • they are great but than topic that are similr to people...than while talking

    "I have to go"

    dont be stupid

    apprecaite

  • Who says being a naturalist isn't fun, haha good times, good explosions, for the right causes.

  • Actually they didn't blow up nature, but rather they blew up man made levees which changed the face and course of nature.

  • BOOM !

    run birds ruuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnn !!!

  • "I'm a happy happy animal living here on this pond. Boom!... Nooooo.. Mom.. Mom.. say something.. Mom?.. what happened.. God what did I do?! Whyyy?"

  • wouldn't they blow up the animals too?

  • A MILLIONS OF BIRDS WERE KILLED

    THE END

  • Got to love the American way of doing things

"If in doubt blow shit up"

  • ITs cheaper that way. Paying an army of laborers is expensive and time consuming. And good luck getting a tractor scoop in that place.

  • I've never seen so many pissed off birds in my life....

  • No one cares about ducks

  • conservation by blowing shit up! am i the only one that things this is fucking retarded?

  • Let's see, they could have spent thousands of hours with hundreds of trucks, bulldozers, and people walking around for months or blow it up and be done with it.

  • As a matter of fact the levees were excavated prior to the blasting. However it would've been impossible and downright dangerous to completely remove the levees this way.

As for worries about pollution from the explosives, the only remnants of the blast would've been quickly dissipated fumes (and fewer than would've been created had they dug the whole thing out with fuel burning equipment).

To the best of my knowledge, no birds were killed due to the blast.

  • They all flew off when the blast happened and were back sitting happy on the newly flooding area within an hour.

Some small rodents may have died due to the overpressure, but the area flooded far too slowly to drown anything, they were all able to run out.

All in all it was a great job to work on (I'm a member of the crew that dealt with the explosives) and quite an interesting way to go about nature conservation.

  • @ForgottenOne17

And how might you know no birds were killed? Did you count them before and after the blast?

  • You mean just like how the US invaded Iraq to restore peace?

  • YEA THAT KID DRIVES A TIBURON what a retard.

  • I wonder how many ducks died.

  • Well, so what? How 'bout an explanation on what/why this was done...

  • there is in the description

'It's the latest step in The Nature Conservancy's efforts to restore wetlands on its Williamston River Delta Preserve in southern Oregon'.

  • and apparently kill some duckies.

  • how many animals do you think died in that blast?

  • The only thing that died was some micro organisms in the water foo.

  • shit aint gonna work.

  • How fantastic, we have an expert commenting on this video! I'm curious acumar, what about this procedure do you know that they don't know and why will it not work?

  • Well, I suppose it was overly pessimistic comment, but having lived in Louisiana where gobs of money are thrown around idiotically, and the meaning of the word FUTILE is unrecognized, you kinda tend to get this way. However, it may not be like this in Oregon.

  • People are so stupid. "Fixin" nature so they can restore the "natural balance". Funny thing is... the vast majority of money for wet land preservation comes from Ducks Unlimited. Why? So they can have more land to go and shoot ducks. And the dumbass hippies go along for the ride. All I see is a bunch of ppl who need to be kicked out of the gene pool, watching a big ass bird/ fish cull taking place.

  • why are all youtube comments written by total retards?

  • Including yours?

  • Wow. You people can somehow find a way to bring Bush and Iraq into everything. I hate Bush and was against the Iraq war, but the whiny trolling about it on nonrelevant message boards is irritating.

  • fake

  • idiot

  • there's something missing, let me see...

oh yeah, chuck norris on a bike jumping out of the smoke straight into water

  • rofl

  • wonder how many birdz were killed -___-

  • Hella sick, it looks like an airstrike :D

  • Bob: yeah finally we saved the environment now the ducks can live in good hapitat, but wait were all the ducks gone??

    Fred: We exploded them.

  • Conservation by explosives, we've come a long way baby!

  • All you folks complaining about the explosion, would also no doubt complain about the high cost of "waterway enhancement, dyke placement and controlled flooding". The explosion I'm sure limited truck traffic, road building, silt relocation and an enormous ammnt of other impacts to the environment. BTW did you see the ducks fly off........ oh yeah and the boggy wetland that will result will greatly increase the whole wetland population.

    THINK FOR YOURSELVES.

  • you are an f'ing idiot....

  • Americans HAVE to do everything in an idiotic way.

  • Or you could spend days digging ditches and not see an explosion

  • Reply Ghettoghangster

People like you do not deserve to come in the category of humans...(your lack of class, culture, your userid, show who you are and not what is really going on.....I would rather support a Volcano than someone like who spews acidic nonsense for no rhyme or reason. You are so despicable with your remarks that other youtubers have better regards4 people who atleast deny truth even though it is right in front of their eyes. Making SCUMBAG comments shows your Character.

    PityU

  • Fotiphoto

Your response is crude, mannerless, no substance to either negate or support my response. Basically you are a Venomous Vermin, A Maggot making pathetic scumbag comments. I am sure your Mother did not teach you manners when you were a kid.

  • that's what I call some crazy shootin, folks! weeehaaa folks!

  • Forget the ducks. With 2,500 acres flooded you can be sure many thousands of small animals living in the ground were drowned.

  • The area was already flooded, it was just flooded with stagnant, dead water. Now it's full of nutrient-rich seawater.

  • It's not a production. They're restoring wetlands...

  • Obviously you don't get the joke. But seriously, this is the WILDLIFE CONSERVATION... and here they are, hurting animals. I think it's just stupid.

  • Rofl @ ducks "WHAT THE"

  • holy fuck!

  • I hope the ducks are ok. (8^(

  • Let the bodies hit the floor

  • wow

  • I live 2 miles from this spot, the paper here last year (this was not recent) reported 3 birds bodies caused 2 spectators injuries (one young girl lost an eye due to a piece of bird bone that became logged in her eye from the explosion) and that 168 birds were found floating in the run off streams, 6 of which were concidered "endangered".

But there was truly one thing Good to come of all this, a Chinese food restaurant suddenly had a sale on "chicken" fingers the next day, I'm not joking!

  • That is funny about the chicken on sale. The loss of a child's eye is heart breaking. If that parent had the child watching I feel for the parent. That's a lot of weight to carry knowing you endangered your child and she lost an eye.

  • Not a child, but a young adult (25 if I remember right)... not that it makes it much better.

  • hmmm

  • I wonder how much wildlife you killed doing this. Couldn't you have given them a heads-up first?

  • cry about it

  • why?

  • Did anyone think about all the polution caused by all those birds shitting their brains out when the explosives went off?!!? Hahahahahaha

  • it would have looked like a jolly brown giant... XD

  • those birds were actually terrorists. go america!

  • how many fish and birds were killed because of this?

  • i think the overall restoration of a wetland outweighs the 6 birds who were mildly annoyed by the explosions.

  • Hippies... I'm kidding... I just wish they'd showed a before and after of the flooding. Show me what the explosion made, darn it!

  • omg i feel sorry for the animals that were in that water.

  • aww i know that this does help and all, but seriously, couldn't they keep some of the birds away??? they were crushed by the water!!

  • "couldn't they keep some of the birds away??? "

How the fuck do you idiots propose that? Asking nicely?

  • why ??

  • lol

  • Wow Thats Good Restoring The Wet Lands.

    Congrats Guys!!

  • yea but when it was able to restore itself..

    we werent here destroying it

so no it wont be able to continue to do so

the rapid rate of our use of the planets resources and our destruction against nature is faster than the rate in which it can restore or regenerate

  • you know this how???

  • Ilove gum you forgot to insult him like he did to us D=

  • i dont get it.

  • und was ist mit den tieren passiert? wurde auf sie rücksicht genommen?

  • Translation: What happened to the animals? Was any precaution taken?

  • Wtf are they trying to accomplish? Restoring wetlands by making it explode?

  • by destroying earthen walls built by man lands are then naturally reclaimed. Thats them opening the front door.

  • That isn't conservation --that is extinction!

It's like killing thousands of living things and then saying we are conserving!

  • wow...!

  • Cool show:)

  • holy crap

  • I am all for conservancy but what about the heart attack those poor birds probably had?

  • do you know how many of those birds there probably are? so what if a few died they'll just breed and make 1000 more.

  • it is nice.

  • Way to go, Nature Conservatory. Now, could you do that like 500 more times?

  • Nature Conservancy, I mean. Oops.

  • Hurrah!

Q: What does a fish say when it swims into a wall?

    A: "Dam."

  • lol

  • Dear bigrich59

Yes you are obviously one with a highly developed brain. My mistake. What was I thinking? Plutonium and depleted uranium are so smart of us to invent. Besides, who needs a healthy landbase to live on (translation- who needs a planet to live on.)?

In your profile you describe yourself with these traits:

    -Respect

    -Honor

    -Loyalty

    -Freindship

    -Knowledge

Yeah. You definitely showed all of those in yer post.

  • wow isnt this the same thing you sent me in a message real original

  • Well, anything worth saying is worth saying twice.

And "Bigrich (somehow I doubt the veracity of either of those claims)," you did get punked by punkassbeeotch. Real bad.

  • p.s. You misspelled "friendship."

  • well i would say no.... wow he picked up a typo and is just feeding american ignorance so saying i was punked is far from the truth but saying he/she or it is living in a ego fed fantasy world now theres a radical truth

  • Ego fed fantasy...Nice username

  • Depleted Uranium is a derivative of a natural material, we did not "Invent" it.

  • No, we just dug it up, depleted it--making it a source of carcinogenic radiation--and then used our toxic waste to make shell tips, and then proceeded to bomb other countries with them, such that in Iraq, for example, every human and non-human animal receives the radioactive equivalent of three chest x-rays a day and birth defect rates have more than tripled since the start of the war.

So,our culture is sweet! Not the least bit to blame for those atrocities, since that uranium is all-natural.

  • When did we nuke Iraq. did i miss something or are you just a dumbass spreading lies. oh wait thats the one. and by the way look through history find the person he figured out what radiation was and where SHE was. you really must be dumb we are to blame for iraq radition problem THEY killed the man responsible already they had him swinging in the wind by his neck. uranium is all natural you have to mine it to get it go read a book if your to lazy to do that then shut up

  • Do yourself a favor and google "depleted uranium iraq birth defects."

    Then read what you find.

And then hang your ignorant head in shame.

  • 'Do yourself a favor and google "depleted uranium iraq birth defects."'

Oh. You're one of the thousands of idiots who doesn't know what "depleted" means and thinks that all radioactive material makes people into Superman and The Incredible Hulk. Do yourself a favor: Spend $150 and take Biochemistry 101 at your community college.

  • Only crying, pissing and moaning I've heard here didn't come from "tree huggers"...

First time I see explosives used intelligently.

  • only thing they should of done different was they could of shot off a couple loud bangs to scare off the birds before blowing it up and maybe killing them.

  • Hello? Anyone home?

    IT WAS A DAM!

As far as I know.....dams are not natural. As far as I know dams have made salmon virtually extinct. That's how explosives can/will and should be used to help the natural world.

Now. Re-read the comments and be proud at civilized human intelligence.

Jaysis! Read a book or something.

  • also, no

  • your ignorance is only surpassed by your arrogance.

  • I love it when I see my YouTube homies commenting on random videos. It makes me feel like I am part of a community.

    Good one.

  • ...well after watching that, i don't feel much like making a 'birds of a feather' remark.

  • lol :)

  • lol wonder how many birds the "nature conservancy" blew up

  • THAT WAS SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Duck hunting, Navy Seal style.

  • heh, americans doing what they do best :)

  • un'immagine impressionante 5*****

    saluti da Napoli

    Mario

  • Lol, the bird must be like "wow, someone got overexited!"

  • wathc the birds at 31

  • LimeTheSlime said: "why didn't they put up signs so the birds would know what the fuck was going on?

    dumbass inconsiderate pricks.

those birds could have been warned." Your right, next time the "inconsiderate picks" could hold a safety meeting with the head bird, so he could warn all the other birds. Problem is, what happen if a foreign bird, like a European Kumguzer, flies into the blast area and he can speak or read English... so the you can see why signs were useless!

  • lol

  • 'the birds are like, 'fuck''

    - idk why, but this comment has had me laughing.

  • me 2 lol dats funny as hell imagine being one of those taking a strole in the water and then all of a sudden BANG BANG "FUcK"

  • Poor birds. Come on, why didn't they do something to avoid killing some birds.

  • First of all if it is conservation...Why was it done in such an explosive form. Also, if it is truly an effort to protect Natural Wetlands or anything else, how come, when the beautiful birds which were in the vicinity were not shooed off with some noise first and then the explosives used. Also, I don't really see this whole use of explosives to make an area a natural wetland to be some Nature Conservancy& Is anOXYMORON.Explosives& Nature do not go hand in hand, while injuring birds/wildlife.

  • They are exploding levees so the area is once again innundated with nutrient-filled seawater and can once again be a part of the local wetlands ecosystem. It could not do this with the levees in place, and there was no other feasible means to remove them. Note, they are exploding a HUMAN artifice. It's like blowing up some buildings so nature can reclaim an area.

  • i couldn't stop laughing when the explosives

went off and the birds from the lake started flying off

but i think the ppl shouldv'e chased off the birds before the explosions

  • have you ever tried to chase birds away from something? The b*stards come right back again.

They will be remembered for their sacrifice.

    *picks up trumpet*

  • haha

    you got a point

    :D

  • unless you were just trying to be funny

  • birds can't read

  • That was great Ebub1! LOL!!

Hay "LimeTheSlime" why don't you try to teach the birds to read, than next time they will know better... lol

  • why didn't they put up signs so the birds would know what the fuck was going on?

    dumbass inconsiderate pricks.

those birds could have been warned.

  • Since when can birds read signs?

  • you just can hang BUSH pic they will know that this are will be fucked up

  • You get the vote for 'worst English ever'.

  • You are total dumb person for you suck at tpye english.

    you learn speak now.

  • I really hope this is sarcastic. Otherwise...you failed miserably.

  • cool video...i bet a good number of those birds got totally pwned.

  • um how the hell is blowing up shit conservation???

  • Presumably they recently purchased a sealed off area of land formerly used for commercial purposes, which is why it was sealed off from tidal flow. They are exploding levees so the area is once again innundated with nutrient-filled seawater and can once again be a part of the local wetlands ecosystem. It could not do this with the levees in place.

  • human efforts and progress in conservation always comes with some sort of negative impact. making a small impact to help the bigger picture is better than not doing anything at all. saving the last great places on earth is a very overwhelming task.

  • expanding the wetlands i guess..

  • so this was done for a GOOD cause to the nature enviromnent? kool then

  • all the birds are like fuck!

  • That was pretty cool.
