He's got a very good handle on the intensity, but I really feel that he's missed the beauty in it.
Just as one defending a lover, there still needs to be beauty and passion in the sound.
I listened before watching and I just don't hear it.
The whole reason Carlo put the first 3 movements is to show the love. This version just feels like a gritty war scene where everyone is depressed and muddy.
@Akibeel369 He doesnt begin with the same intensity because he is creating more artistic expression by building up the intensity. He has a personal artistic view of this music that he brilliantly communicates during this performance. His purpose is not to demonstrate mechanical virtuosity by playing fast notes, but his purpose is to create and communicate a powerful artistic message. Those listeners who have a good deal of artistic sensibility will get the message; you obviously don't.
@felixzadori And who asks you?? You can´t know what i´m thinking or what i hear in this performance, I only wanted to know his especific reason of why he did it that way. I never said it was wrong or even I didn´t like it, if you can´t read a simple sentence how can you understand music??
Absolutely breathtaking. I was at this performance. His interpretation is the best I have found and I have searched through and listened to many. Amazing Andrew.
technique good... but where's the passion. Li Jie's interpretation is more profound and deep. And speaking of depth listen it from the Domenico himself, he is not concerned about the technique at all but full of passion and emotions...
I can't thank you enough for your wonderful presence and participation and your beautiful music at my recent PhotoReading Seminar in Boston. You are a gift. I'll see about bringing you in to teach my students at my PhotoReading camp in the Bahamas in 2010!
Numadori, ta description est superbe, Andrew va chercher des notes d'emotions tres tres profondes! Dommage que nous n'ayons pas d'autres morceaux a nous mettre sous le tympan :)
Fantastic performance....And that guitar's design with the 2 openings probably allows the guitarist to hear what he is playing better...It reminds of the bent trumpet of Dizzy Gillespie. He bent it so he could hear his playing better as well.
no, actually the theory behind those soundholes is that the guitar will be louder, able to project sound better... Partly because the guitarist's hand isn't in the way of the soundhole
Moving the sound hole up provides top the guitar with a larger area of resonance, which makes it louder. The two sound hole design is really an aesthetic choice, though I'm sure there are construction differences. The luthier, Alan Chapman, also makes guitars with a single sound hole moved up neck to the fretboard, on either side of the instrument.
I've been studying classical guitar for about a year now, and watching this cat execute such a beautiful piece only inspires me to practice harder and keep it up so one day I get to play like him.
the piece can be tuned one of the two ways shown below. If the 6th string is tuned to D, the piece is in D minor, if it is tuned to C#, the piece is in C# minor. Domeniconi wrote the piece in C# minor. The piece does not sound in C major but it is READ as though it is in C major in the sheet music because there are no sharps/flats. This tuning method is called "scordatura"
Wooooow! I am speechless! The Gods & Godesses of Olympus have outspoken all their anger, passion & agony.
Can someone please tell me if this is the regular tuning of the guitar (1st & last strings being Me) or is it a modifyed one? I have noticed that the sixth is maybe one note down (I might be wrong)
I've had a chance to talk to Andrew after the concert in SC Kentucky, man he's a nice guy. He was eager to answer anything I asked him. Needles to say audience absolutely loved him. What a great showman. Hi played the same guitar as in this clip and live sounds much warmer. He can really play.
Though I have to admit, imo there are better interpretations than this, for exemple Thibault Cauvins. But this truly was a great contrast, will change lot in my playing :D thanks again
OMFG It's so craaazy when he suddenly speeds it up! I was like "what a nerd, playing this so slow and with almost no balls at all", and then he does it, goes into this Berzerk-like mode :D I really loved this, thanks for sharing !
Fantastic expression. He is an artist and not just a technical marvel. I have played this piece in concerts. You open new ways for its interpretation. Congratulations!
An interesting about Leonard's performance is that he doesn't seem so enthralled by the notion of playing this section of the piece as fast as he can, but rather focusing on dynamics as well as the notes and technique, but then he absolutely slays it when he speeds up.
I'm particulary in loved with this composing, and I must say it's one of the best performance I've heard...maybe my favorit. Congratulation and thank you for this great moment!
This song struck a chord with me. It is beautiful and this version is one of the finest I've found, with the Lijie and John Williams. Please put more Leonard on youtube if possible.
no words other than Astounding, to say the least... Bravo! I liked your performance better than the only recording I have of this piece (by... hum... John William's)
incredible performance, one major reason I am trading my acoustic in for a classical guitar. very good song played in a good distinctive way... inspiring.

@MrFlyingPanda @MrFlyingPanda Presto is the last part on the song that contains 4 part. 1.Moderato 2. Mosso 3. Cantabile et 4. Presto
PhilTurcotteMusic 1 year ago
@MrFlyingPanda Presto refers to the speed. Each movement is played a bit faster. Presto means 'very fast'. The previous movements are slower.
