i was supposed to take a ride along but the guy I talked to never called me back. He was going to set up a day where I could go for a full day and ride with the chief. I even signed the waiver and everything. Guess I'll have to make the call.

Actually, while the initial dispatch was struck for 5 alarms, the incident esculated to nearly 25 alarms with 183 Ladder and Engine Co.s and almost all of the Department's Special Operations units
A fire has different alarm levels depending on the size and location of the fire. Each alarm level has a predetermined ammount of apparatus assigned to it. For example a 1st alarm may be 5 engines, 2 ladders, 1 rescue and a bat. chief. A second alarm may add an additional 5 engines and additional ladders and equipment. It is done so it streamlines the operation so the incident commander can just req an addl alarm and not have to think about which companies to call.

I love this, this is an example of perfect, well trained and equipped fire fighting. And the firefighter with the cut on his face is a real hero, because he simply kept helping.
You guys should get fog knozzles, ppv and wear your safety glasses.

I have a question. Our state had a fire a while back, so large 50 different towns responded.
Its a "Mutual aid" agreement. Both paid and volunteers where there fighting it.
You couldn't put a 'alarm' number to that could you?

Yeah, he's right. each tower had the equivelent of 25 alarms worth of equipment and manpower assigned to it.

Boston has had much bigger fires than 7 alarms. And there have been many other fires alot larger than 7 alarms.
