This is great, thanks for sharing. Jochum is one of my favorite conductors. His recordings of Bruckner are something out of this world.

Incidentally, I see that three of the four "Kuolema" pieces (Valse Triste & Scene with Cranes from Op. 44 & Valse Romantique from Op. 62) are on YouTube. However, no one's posted Canzonetta (Op. 62a). I've been holding off linking the "Kuolema" music to the Jean Sibelius Facebook group until Canzonetta's been downloaded. Do you have it on disc? I have the Rozdestvensky/Leningrad Philmarmonic recording on an Angel LP, but no means for getting it online.

I do have the Canzonetta. It's on the Inkinen disc that I used for the Night Ride. I'll work on that and post it.

How do I find your Sibelius facebook group? I'm on facebook but I've not really looked in on the groups there...

YouTube won't let me post a URL, but the group is called "Jean Sibelius" (it's the big one, over 400 members). Try keying the group name into the "Search Groups" box when you hit the "Groups" icon.

Interesting interpretation, billystewart4! I haven't sorted through my collection of Sibelius LPs (I have nothing on CD--yet) since I moved, but I believe the version I have is Sargent/BBC Symphony Orchestra (if that sounds right). I'm not used to hearing the opening played so slowly, but then it provides a greater contrast to the tempo of the rest of the "Nightride" section.

Definitely a different feel. I like this, but I do prefer the slower tempo throughout as offered by Berglund and Inkinen.
