AMC showed this today. It's STILL better than the Sandler version. My favorite part is when he hits Ray Nitschke in the crotch, and everyone jumps on him, TWICE! I also love the way Burt Reynolds sticks the game ball in Eddie Albert's gut and says, "Stick this in your trophy case." Then you see the deputy warden pull out the tape of the bribe, suggesting Paul's getting out soon!
They say a great movie has to hook you in the first 5 minuetes, check. Then delivers one of the greatest guy movies of all time.Lastly, and most certainly leastly,Adam Sandler playing Paul Crue is a slap in the face to Burt & his fans.
The Cintroen was bascially Maserati. I wiki'd Cintroen and found out that, Cintroen bought Maserati in 1968 & incorporated both vehicles. Thus, the connection between the two style of vehicles. This movie is an UNTOUCHABLE Classic that no one should have had the audacity to attempt to remake. Also, Burt Reynolds should've never been cast to play Coach Nate Scarborough in the failed re-make of this movie. To me, that's like someone attempting to re-make "The Dirty Dozen". Can't be done!
Burt Reynolds played Paul Crewe in the 1974 moive of the longest yard and he played Nate Scarbrough in the 2005 moive of the longest yard with Adam sandler
The remake is a joke. They shot it in Santa Fe at the old prison. Burt slapped the reporter during an interview because the guy had not even taken the time to watch the original movie and was then forced to apologize to the idiot.
Grew up listening to Skynyrd. After watching this movie it's impossible for me to listen to Saturday Night Special and not want to get in my car and drive like a maniac!
Nothing like seeing the place you grew up in being part of a movie. XD Most of it was in Savannah, Ga. The beginning where you see the blinking light, then the park where he's driving wrong way on one way, then fountain which is in the park. Most of downtown on bay street then broughton.. Couldn't tell of the places before the drawbridge though. Movie was made before I was born so not sure. But drawbridge was in Brunswick. Love it. XD Blinking light as actually in my neighborhood lol
Burt Reynolds and Lynyrd Skynyrd... All Florida boys... As I am too, I was the stunt driver for this chase scene and had an on again/off again affair with Burt for the next seven years... A lovely man who I will always hold close to my heart.
Buckett is right. This is a great movie but the beginning with Burt shifting gears and outrunning the cops with Lynyrd Skynyrd playing in the background is pure gold.
At the beginning she says "Don't take my Mazerati" But it's actually a Citreon. They owned Mazerati at the time. It's pretty cool though, Mr.Saturday night on the Radio.
These scenes were filmed in Savannah, GA
