Awesome just awesome. Also type in HALL & OATES - EVERYTIME YOU GO AWAY ( live) they have the original and the temptations for back up vocals just awesome. Just geniuses.
Great song for a great movie. However, it's not the original. The original was written by Daryl Hall from (Hall & Oates). I know there's another one too, from a group called The Mondays or The Blue Mondays. Something of that sort. This one is probably my favorite though.
@chazchazfbi Yeah felt sorry for John Candy. He kept smiling and seemed so Jolly but he was really sad deep inside since he had no home and his wife has been dead for 8 years.
actually this song was written in 1979/1980 as it originally appeared on Hall & Oates's voices album and only became a hit for Mr Young 5 years later in 1985 personally I love both versions of this song
I would dare say...the mid 80s pop tunes were probably the best musically, in music. This song takes me back to freshman year in HS, what memories...all good. What happened? I can't turn on the radio nowadays, it is unbelieveable JUNK. Thanks to the internet I can still reminesce of the "good old days"!
Agreed! Though I grew up in the 90s I love 80s song. There is so much emotion in those songs. All the power ballads and the drums. Wow! and true so much junk in radio today.
I remember when I was a teen and my family was in the car with the radio on. This song came on, and my dad said, "You take a piece of MEAT with you??" Us kids just laughed and laughed. lol
Everytime I hear this song I think of John Candy and the ending scene in Planes Trains And Automobiles, a scene that has always been so powerful to me. This really brings me home again. Thank you so much!!
I just saw a U-tube video of " this is your life Paul Young" he is Hot in this video here but still after all these years still is Sexy....check it out !
This song is awesome. Reminds me of a hot and steamy romance I had, back in the 80's. This song will ALWAYS bring back great, wonderful & very hot memories!
Yeah, I guess every lucky guy has felt the same way...no offense girls, I just can't speak for you. I say "lucky" because we were honored with a girl's love to begin with...that's actually a rather difficult feat to accomplish sometimes...
I love this song by Paul Young. When it was out in the 80's, my son was then 4 years old. He also loved the song but would sing - "Every time you go away, you take a piece of MEAT with you!" I can't help but laugh every time I hear it now! Such a fun memory!
Trains, Planes and Automobiles ends with this song...and it is so heartrending as John Candy is no longer with us. SWEET song. My darling son would dance to this when he was very young!
i swear i can hear aaron naville in his voice, they both have beautiful voices and i remember leaving my wife in cambodia for the first time and all else that was going through my head was this song as the plane took off i bald my eyes out cause we were young and so in love, we weren't seperated more then 30 min. since we met...didn't this song had the sound of a plane taking off at the beginning?
This song just destroys me, I had a woman who l love to no end, we are good friends, and we hang out, & try not to let our feelings destroy our friendship. I tell & show her how much I feel her, & l know she feel's me just as much. And when the day come's to & end, and she leave's me, l die. She literaly take"s a piece of me every time...every time she goe's away. l would lay my life down for her, without question, without regret. I'm no youngster, l know what l speak. l love her to the core.
I really understand. I Loved someone who loved me, but he died.. It Hurt so much.. Please try to rememember they will be in you heart, and forever ..maybe you will see them some day...
I know, but it just seem's unreachable at the momment. The pain that one feel's when they have lost that one, the one you just know. The pain is the worst kind of pain a person can bare. Beacuse there's is nothing you can do about it, except to suffer thru it. Day in & day out. Physical pain l can take, but this kind of pain just make you want to end it....u be good WooWooy.
this song, is the song my boyfriend told me that reminded him of me, things are over between me and him, but every time i hear this song i cry my eyes out, he was in 8th grade and i was in 7th grade, and he told me that he listened to this song like 70billion times a day after graduation, first guy that has ever had soooo maany feelings for me, ill never forget him:(
No, actually this was originally a tune penned by the famous butcher/singer/songwriter JM Schneider.
"Everytime you go away, you take a piece of meat with you." Yep, poor old JM Schneider wept a little everytime he heard his song after its original recording was made on cylinders at the onset of recorded music.
Paul Young has done a fantastic job of discovering/covering/rerecording this gem of a tune in his own style as you've heard here, many decades after the original was made. Even though the the chorus is probably not exactly what he (JM) had in mind at first, it's close enough. ;)
Awesome song along with I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down. The piano and the bassline goes together and you feel the emotion. I sense the similar style of lyrics that Hall and Oates would do. I didn't know Hall and Oates had wrote this song

Besides the hooky melody and great arrangment this song has 2 key elements that wold kill it if missing:
1; The awesome bass line!! Pop songs rarely have a defining bass line. Pino Paladino!
2. electric sitar guitar hook lines.
Those 2 things combined with the rest =a freash hit!!
