  • What do you think about a window on side of above ground pond, any issues with algae biuld up,

  • Never installed one myself but I would assume that algae would build up on the glass similar to an aquarium so would need scrubbing off.

  • idk but at the beginning of the video my eyes were hurtting..

  • very very nice pond its seem to be relaxing specially at the sammer that you could sit in your porch and enjoy the sound of the mini water fall

  • How much did this pond cost?

  • Not enough. The wall took ages.

I think it was about £2.5K (may have been less) but I have real problems with memory. I just remember thinking when I was half way through the wall that it was way too cheap and no other landscapers I know would have bothered making a pond finished this way.

I've done a few more like this since and each time, the wall takes an age but it makes a unique effect - bit like a trademark as people know its one of mine.

    lol

  • @pondguru It is a very good looking pond and looks very well made. Just very impressive!

  • No worries, man.

I tend to make anything as if I was making it for myself.

  • Great looking pond. Im currently building one that is exactly the same shape and want to install that waterfall. How do you build the waterfall into the pond? Any information would be helpful. Cant find info any where, thats how i found your vid by typing ubbink waterfall in you tube.

  • As the wall is a double skin wall, the letterbox sits in the cantre and the front is masked by thinner stone on the pond side. I really should have done a more detailed video with some explaination of this pond as there were a few different processes involved.

The letterbox can (and often is) mounted straight onto the wall but looks very artificial done that way. It has inlets in the bottom and back. You just cap the one you don't want to use.

  • Great job! love your hard work ..i would like to know what is the name of the light in the waterfall,,please inbox me..thank u :)

  • If you search for Niagra 60 or 90 from a company called Ubbink you will find them on the net.

    Thanks for watching.

  • Very nice, thanks for sharing.

  • No worries, I'm doing a great koi pond at present so will upload the video showing how it was built soon. It will be a good video as I'm really pleased with the pond.

    Thanks for watching.

  • Now that is art! true master piece!

  • Thanks for viewing and appreciating.

  • PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME HOW YOU MADE THE WATER SPILL!!!!!! thanks very nice pond keep it up

  • It is a stainless steel letterbox wier from an online company - the name escapes me.

    Thanks for watching.

  • @pondguru im sorry but what is a stainless steel letterbox wier? and what country are you in?

  • I'm in England. If you search for Niagra 60 or 90 from a company called Ubbink you will find them on the net.

  • Good job buddy!!!

  • Thanks for appreciating it, man.

  • Beautiful build, I'm envious! I have a question about the liner installation. How do you attach the capstones to the top of the wall with the liner under them? Can you mortar the capstones to the liner or is it just wedged underneath? I'm building a pond very similar to this one but am using brick. That's the one bit I can't figure from all the videos onlin

  • I ensure that the pond is 90% filled with water then mortar the capping stones over the overlapped liner. I cut the liner first so that you can't see it on the outside edge of the wall and overlaps half way into the top of the wall. If there is a small cavity in the wall between the blocks and the stone, the liner is often tucked in there prior to cementing on the capping stones.

    Thanks for watching.

  • hi, great pond etc.

i am thinking of building a similar sized one, not sure to go for liner or concrete though. i did not see on vid how you sorted pipe work from inside the liner, can you please explain. many thanks.

  • The pipe runs up the corner of the pond on the inside, and goes under the capping, down the inside of the wall and under the lawn to the filters.

  • creepy music....lol. nice pond tho.

  • Hi, i dont mean to seem rude But i didnt see any Bottom drains, How do you keep the pond clean and what type of filters are you using, great pond Love it.

  • There are no botton drains. The pump is an Aquamax 12.000 and the filters are2 x Filtoclear 15.000 with an extra 25W U.V. before them. The bottom of the pond slopes slightly toward the pump so once there are fish in there, the muck will be swept into the pump.

  • Cool, Thanks for the reply.

  • I got another question... Did you ever have an incident were koi jumped out of this find of pond? Because, i want to build a above ground pond for breeding but i am scared they are going to jump out.

  • There are no fish in this one until spring. In general, if a fish jumps out of any pond, it won't get back in as they haven't got much of a homing instinct - lol. Fish will jump for a variety of reasons but mostly to rid themselves of parasites. If the fish are healthy and content, they won't jump out.

  • I have a question that might sound stupid, but thats never stopped me. Do you dig these ponds oldschool? Or with machinery?

  • Generally, if its a small pond like this one, by hand. Larger ones I will dig with a mini digger.

  • Ouch.

  • cheers good job. who done the block work at the start. see if u put the concrete brick or quarter block in the corner then all the joints are even plus the wall is stronger

  • Duly noted. I made did the whole job and have to admit, blockwork is self taught. I just try to concentrate on crossing all the joints.

  • Good job! I like the waterfall.

  • It looks very nice but some of the water splashes back onto the wall and travels through to the other side of the wall so I need to inject a bit of sealant. AAAaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggghhhh!!!!!!

  • Your videos are good but I think sometimes you spend too much time showing the same thing over and over or for too long duration, without real distinction between shots.

  • With the walling and tunnels, as it is a skilled job perhaps I do go overboard with the duration - point taken, man. I maybe like to showcase those skills (show off if you like) to others doing a similar job. I should perhaps concentrate more on laying the liner or setting up filters? If you let me know what you would like to see more/less of I will try to include that in my future videos as perhaps more viewers are feeling the same. Thanks for the comment.

  • I'm more of a time-lapse person myself, though I think I would like to see more of the actual construction steps too, like the filters and liner laying.

Nothing wrong with wanting to show off, but less is more. Show the steps to get to the end, and then do one set of shots at the end to wow everyone with the finished product. : )

  • On the next tecnical build, I will do a bit of explaination during construction. Good tips, man.

  • I enjoyed the video. The formal look and construction steps were very refreshing.

    The Pond Guru Rocks.

    The Pond Digger

  • Thanks, man. I don't know wether I rock, but I enjoy what I do.

  • Another great video and outstanding pond by PondGuru. Very nice job!

  • I was particularly pleased with the walling as it clear when people see it that it hasn't been thrown together.

  • another great bit of walling, not to keen on the sawn edges on the cap stones but that's just being picky otherwise a lovely job

  • In 'real life' the edges don't look bad as they are all roughed up and chamfered with a grinder. I used a diamond blade to take off the clean cut look but it broke on the last piece of capping. In the video I am using a standard resin blade and it was a right job to rough it up with that. I should of got a close-up of the edges as it was quite a good effect when done with the diamond blade. Not as authentic as hand cut though.....I take your point.

  • super

  • Tanks, man.

  • years ago i always had the pump in the water, and as you said if you have the circulation it does keep it clear, i have just broke my U V and think I shall try a season without it, have you experianced ponds keeping crystall without U V `s ? I`m thinking when the filter has established it should cope without one.!!!?

  • Depending on shade, filter establishment etc. the water may keep clear. But the end product of filtration is nitrate which feeds algae so it may well go green. UV also kills bacteria, pathogens, parasites etc. so is quite important in a fish pond. If it were me I would put another one on as prevention is better (and often less costly ) than cure. You've got some really nice fish in your pond so it would be a shame if they went down to a common parasite.

  • Cheers for your opinion, on that note I shall buy a new one, the other developed a pin hole leak which is something I have not come accross before. Don`t make them like they used to.

  • I have sen a couple of older tetra ones where the plastic body had been degraded by the UV light to such an extent that it thinned and leaked. Fancy making a UV unit out of material that isn't UV stabilised - pure genius!

  • Mine is a kotney koi ..yamatsui something like that anyway, only had it 3 years.

  • The yamitsu filters from kockney koi usually last for years. They are not the prettiest UVs but who cares, they usually do the job without fail - shame its gone after 3 years.

  • Great job. what is the song??

  • It is by Conjure One and is called 'Centre of the sun - solarstone's chilled out remix' Their albums are really good if you like chilled music. I tend to get more chilled with my music taste as summer wears on then gradually get back into hard trance and death metal when winter has my ears in its icy grip.

  • Great Job you have done again, like the neat walling, and that letter box waterfall is the bees, notice you don`t put bottom drains in, or did I miss something, I did a side drain but found it nearly usless, so I put a 4" downpipe to nearly an 1inch from the bottom and this works well, at the opposite end to the water in pipe, so i get cirular motion of the water.

  • With the water plunging down at one end and the pump at the other, muck build-up shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure the day will come when I do a big pond with bottom drain but I've only done a couple thus far.

  • As you say , should not be a problem, full marks, looks really good.

  • Thanks, man. I realise some folks don't agree with pumps inside koi ponds but the aquamax has a good design to prevent damage to fish. Unless its a monster clay bottom pond with masses of vegetation, fish will never be in their natural environment. They are, however a hell of alot easier to see and appreciate in a formal pond with gin clear water. Unless my fish are a foot from the top I never see them. Ah, well at least no-one will steal them - there is alot of that goes on around here.

  • yeah first wow nce vid man

  • This pond took an age due to the amount of small stone in the outer wall. Glad you liked it.
