  • even though im a little over the age of little kid books i still love reading them

  • I was so surprised how many of these books I had read. I love Tamora Pierce, I remember reading her books in middle school and wanting so be just like Alanna (I'm 21 now so this was 8-9 years ago). This video totally made me want to re-read a lot of these books :)

  • You have Tales of the Slayer?!

  • I loved Ella Enchanted when I was in my teens. I am 22 and I am going to go reread it now!!

  • Ella Enchanted is AMAZING. And the movie...just EW. Another nothing like the book movie. But <3 Tamora Pierce and all her books about Tortal even in my late teens.

  • Heir Apparent, I read it for 8th grade Reading Olympics, It really needs a sequel because it had such a huge cliff hanger.

  • why are you always making so creepy things with your eyes ? :D

  • I love, love, LOVE Avalon High.

  • I just finished reading that in my 6th Block English Class. We were studying medieval times. I loved the book. But all of the boys in my class were being imature when it came to the brithing parts. And because I am mature, and no one else in my class is, they laughed when they would be reading along and the teacher would change Hell to Heck or Damn to Dang or Darn.

Imsturiosity has struck once more. I love yor personality and just how you make my day. Keep up the good work.

  • SUB!!! +

  • Have you read the Maximum Ride series? I know it seems kind of childish but it's A FREAKING MAZING! The main character Max kicks mutant butt! Ii really think you should read them...They're by James Patterson

  • Somehow I jumped from elementary school books to adult fantasy. Redwall (which is usually put in both adult fantasy and YA), and the Pendragon Cycle by Lawhead, David Eddings books. I read some YA, like the Chronicles of Prydain for instance, and a Series of Unfortunate Events, the Lost Years of Merlin, Harry Potter obviously, Artemis Fowl, the Bartimaeus trilogy, Eragon, etc. But they were never really the girly books. So thus in my early 20s I'm finding myself catching up on the girly ones!

  • I read Ascension and loved it but could never find the sequels, and had forgotten about it until this video. So thanks for reminding me, and now I'll have to get them. I also feel like I read a lot of these books while in elementary school/got from book riots, but I'm now a senior in university so that was quite a while ago and I don't exactly remember.

  • I was so excited to see Tamora Pierce books on your shelf! She is one of my favorite authors. I'm looking forward to getting her newest book, Mastiff.

  • i think i read all of them same books as you did...i still read the perilous gard every now and then because it is one of my absolute favorites.

  • i read the Shakespeare Stealer in grade nine english!

  • The Black Cauldron is actually my favorite Disney movie, besides the Lion King.

  • Whats a book as good as the hunger games?

  • Those eyes are killing me...

  • Love, love, love Ella Enchanted. I've read it so so many times. Almost as many times as I've reread Harry Potter. I liked the movie although they didn't follow the book at all. Book are always so much better.

  • i wish i read more books when i was younger.

  • Oh no! I saw you have Once Upon a Marigold! Why didn't you talk about that one? :[

That was my favorite book when I was in high school. And, honestly, it probably still is ahaha

  • i didn't read a lot of fantasy fic as a young teen, but I'm getting more into it now in college. I like reading YA still because it's an entertaining and relaxing read. thanks SO much for doing this video! i'm always looking for more recommendations

  • I had to pause it just to say, I LOVE The Black Cauldron! One of my fave movies growing up!

  • I JUST now read Ella Enchanted! My sister had it for years, but I just now read it - I LOVED IT!

  • You just gave me another 1,000 books to add to my christmas list! haha

  • Oh my gosh. I have so many of the books you have it's just WEIRD. You have good taste. :D

  • Wait how old are you? I totally would have thought you were say 19..

  • Did you see the Avalon High movie??????

  • You pronounce "Cabot" like Cab-it. The second way you said it. *she's my favorite author, I know these things, LOL*

  • Is it sad that I can tell that the books on your left (well your right my left) are The Claidi Journals! At least I think that's what they are I haven't read them since Junior High so i might be wrong on this. In which case I look like an idiot lol but I'm pretty sure that those are Wolf Wing, Wolf Tower, Wolf Star, and Wolf Princess.

  • @InaNook My bad Wolf Queen lol

  • At that age I was reading mostly books that revolved around horses; the Saddle Club and Thoroughbred series were my favourite. I also loved the Unicorns of Balinor! The Shakespeare Stealer trilogy was pretty much the start of my love affair with elizabethan history. A few months ago I went through my books and got rid of a lot of them, including my Tamora Pierce series, and now I am regretting that because you've reminded me how awesome they are!

  • where in europe did u live? I lovee THE HUNGER GAMES <33333333333333 K<3P

  • Ella Enchanted and The Claudi journals are my fav! I can't wait for part 2 because I saw Of Two Minds in there and it was impossible to find the 2nd and 3rd book when I was a kid (sold out even on amazon then).

  • Wooah, I wish I had your book collection! O.o

  • I'm 19, and I just re-read a bunch of my Tamora Pierce books! THEY'RE STILL AWESOME!

  • now i want to read! omigwad. i just havent had the time now :(

  • ooomg tamora Pierce, i have read all of her books, but Protector of the Small was my all time favorite, i was just in love with Nelan, i was so sad when the book ended and Kel and Nelan wasn't together so sad XD

I just love Kel as a person, and Pierce really know how to make good heros and they just make you fall in love with them, my all time favorit books! (after the Harry Potter books :O )

    Sorry for my bad english

  • Have you read The Wings Series by Aprilynne Pike?

They are such good books, you should read them if you have not! :)

  • Books like "The Watcher" by Grace Monroe and "When she was bad" by Jonathan Nasaw really got me reading. Murder mystery and Illness, now i prefer fantasy based titles, but still love the other style of reading :)

  • Oh I almost forgot! I was wondering if you watch Once Upon A Time? It's a great twist to fairytales. If you don't watch it, I highly recommend. If you do, can you tell me what you think about it?

  • You have an amazing taste in books. A lot of the books that you pulled out of your shelf, I read when I was younger.

  • I read Beauty when I was like 10 and I LOVED it! i couldn't find it from there forward... and now to see it on here... my childhood just flashed right in front of my eyes!

  • I also used to read the Unicorns of Balinor. I thought they were awesome.

  • You have beautiful eyes :)

  • I read A LOT of YA lit...mainly paranormal and fantasty, as most of us do lately....

Have you read Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor? That book is beautiful(and made me really love modern fantasty).

  • I don't know if you get to this in your part 2 video, but did you ever read the Warrior Heir/Wizard Heir/Dragon Heir books by Cinda Williams Chima? They're absolutely fantastic YA novels that kind of take off from the War of the Roses history. So good!

  • How did you remember all the stories and stuff when you read them a long time ago!! thats so good lol

  • @whitneyleemilam That makes sense :)

  • We have a lot of the same books. :D

  • i didn't subscribe to you ...why are you in my subs box ....O.o

  • your so smart!

  • When I was in junior high or early on in high school, I really enjoyed Poison by Chris Wooding. I'd love to read it again and see what I think after my college English courses.

  • Have you ever read the uglies series???

  • @nnc13 Yepp! There will actually be a very...unique...Uglies-themed video coming up this month ;)

  • Books I've read from 13-now(19) are Harry Potter of course, The Hunger Games, all of John Green's books, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Warriors by Erin Hunter, I read Ella Enchanted too, but I was in 6th grade, and I just bought The Maze Runner and going to read that soon! And I have a really long reading list that I have to go through too. But I can't do any reading until winter break because tomorrow is the start of dead week at Sac State, and I have to study for my tests and finals.

  • My fave categories of books ARE sci-fi and fantasy/fiction (but not realistic fiction or historical fiction *shudders* And especially not... non-fiction! *cowers in a shadowy corner*) We have so much in common!

  • @MsUnicornTastic Ha well I'm actually a huge fan of historical fiction, historical tomes, and historical biographies, so....

  • Gail Carsin Levine wrote a lot of other really good fantasy books! I loved them

  • What order did you put your books in?

  • @Zebrax107 Organized by size. Standard paperbacks on top, mass market paperbacks in the middle, hardcovers and trade paperbacks on bottom

  • Meg Cabot is awesome. American Girl is my favorite book by her.

  • OHMYGOD YOU HAVE THE UNICORNS OF BALINOR!!! So do I lol. I was obsessed when I was younger, and I got them from the book order from school too!

  • ROBIN MCKINELY IS THE BEST AUTHOR EVER!!!

  • Oh my God, the Claidi Journals were so amazing!

  • HUNGER GAMES TRILOGY!!!!!

  • Tamora Pierce were/still are some of my favorites. I have reread those series so many times! This has given me a ton of books to read. YA is a nice break from the blah reading of college texts.

  • ella enchanted was my favourite book too! oh man, i took this out like 5 times from my library before i got into harry potter.

  • this made me miss the days where you could read whatever you want, i.e. pre-university days.

  • i wrote down most of these to read thanks!

  • I looked at your bookshelf behind you the second it loaded and squealed when I saw Tamora Pierce's books. I LOVE her! :3

  • So much nostalgia.

  • Which is your favorite out of all of these? I need to get into a good book SERIES. I only like series cause then I have things to look forward to while I'm reading. But please answer this.

  • I'm pretty sure Quetzals exist

  • You were taking books out and not putting them back...was driving me crazy! You have mostly paperback books I see, I'm a hard cover nut, but yours desplayed nicely. I have a kindle now, sooo much easier! All my favorite books all at my reach at once! I too have a lot at my parents house, but now with the modern storage I can read whatever I want whenever I want!! With exception of a few...Harry Potter :/ I have never read Ella Enchanted! I am reading Game of Thrones now :D

  • i have so many new books i added to my amazon wish list now!!

and i was just arguing with my history professor about the Black Cauldron movie! haaha

  • literally the coolest thing ive ever seen those latin prayer books? ahhww yeah hahah im actually so happy that you made this video

  • I read Ella Enchanted when I was eight, and have LOVED it ever since!

  • my love of ella enchanted knows no bounds. i've read most of these books actually (i'm seventeen) and it makes me really happy to see that other people are as big YA fantasy nerds as I am :)

  • I loved Ella Enchanted soo much in third/forth grade! Did you ever read the Two Princesses of Barmarre?

  • Horrible Histories! I don't think there's actually a kid in Britain that doesn't own one of those books!

  • Anything Gail Carson Levine absolutely MADE my childhood!

  • OMG the Unicorns of Balinor! I read those when I was like eight!! I also got them from the book orders. :) Dug them up out of my closet last week, actually.

  • I've been meaning to read avalon high because i loved the movie

  • In fairness, it would be hard for "The Black Cauldron" book to NOT be better than the movie. That disaster almost brought Disney down. Also, did you ever read any of the Redwall books? Probably my first, favorite fantasy series

  • @Bramtic as a musophobe I always hated the Redwall books on principle...never actually read them; too terrifying

  • @whitneyleemilam That's totally understandable, though too bad. They really are first class fantasy. How about the Discworld books? No mice there, as far as I can remember (well, except for Death of Rats). And now I really hope you've read the books, or that last line sound exceptionally creepy.

  • The Tanith Lee books rock!

  • Ella Enchanted was my all-time favorite book as a younger teen. I grinned when I saw you pull it off the shelf.

  • I consider Ella Enchanted the book of my childhood. I love Gail Carson Levine's writing, even now.

  • When I started this video I was waiting for you to talk about Trickers Choice because I saw them in the background. Tamora Pierce is my favorite Arthur. All of the books are so good! I'm so glad you like them!!1

  • Over my lifetime I think I've owned at least five copies of Ella Enchanted. My mom and sister (who are teachers) went to a conference thing and had lunch with the author and my sister got a signed copy of it, which I covet. It is necessary for you to know this.

  • Unicorns of Balinor was my FAVORITE series as a child. SO formative...

  • I am a huge fan of fantasy too!!! Have you heard/read the Sword of Truth series?!? I'm so drawn into the books I can put them down! I think you'll really like them! :) it is written by Terry Goodkind. I know a lot of people will recommend new booms to you but please read a chapter or two of the first book and you'll be pulled in ^__^ happy reading!

  • whitney, where are you from? i know you go to ucla but are you from california as well? where did you live growing up? haha just curious :)

  • Could you make a video of books to get people? im clueless!

  • Oh, Blue Bloods. :) Definitely my guilty pleasure, too. I finished the 6th book, Lost in Time, today actually. I still love them. :) I always pick up the new ones thinking they'll be awful, but I'm always sucked in.

  • I have re-read the Song of the Lioness series so many times :D

  • @Jannabananaman I re-read the first two a few years back and was shocked to find Duke Roger........really attractive. 10-year-old me was so not down for that.

  • Love Ella Enchanted...I got it as a gift, read it so much that I'm now missing the front and back covers!

  • I am reading 13 reasons why! I love it!

  • Oh my gosh Shadow Spinner, I remember that!

  • Guh, I love Ella Enchanted. :]

  • I've read like half of these. omg.

  • AVALON HIGH <3

  • Wow, we read so much of the same books. I read Beauty and Spindle's End by RObin Mckinley. LOVED THEM!! I read all of the Tamora Pierce books from the Circle of Magic and Squire. I read a lot of her books. I'm about to watch part 2, lol.

  • Do you have one all-time favorite book?

  • If you're into fantasy you should read some Discworld books by Terry Pratchett, they are my favourite series of all time :)

  • Jesus Christmas! That's alot of books! My bookshelf doesn't even compare! Lol! Great video Whitney, it was nice to see a little part of your teen years =)

  • you have so many books. but i do what you do, all i do is ask for books for christmas and birthdays. and slowely my book collection is growing :D

  • I LOVE THE BLACK CAULDRON.It's my favorite Disney movie. I'm going to pick up the books as soon as possible :3 Added a lot of books to my shelfari account - can't wait for part 2! Thanks Whitney! <3

  • Ohmywizardgod. We have the exact same taste in books. Your bookshelves = mine.

    YES. AWESOME.

  • I LOVE HORRIBLE HISTORIES!! They are sooo funny, and there is a TV show about it in England :P It's AWSOME! <3

  • Whitney can you put the titles and the authors in the description, then i know what to look for in the library?

  • i LOVE the song of the lioness quartet but i dont know anyone else who has even heard of them! you are seriously so great haha

  • Whitney, you have SUCH great taste in books! I've read a lot of these and now have ideas for new reads :)

  • All of my books (for the most part) look like they are brand new. For me its easy to keep them that way because one of my biggest pet peeves is dirty/messed up books. Take great care of them, dont bend the covers when you read them, dont fold down pages, keep them in a bookself unless you are reading them, dont put them in your backpack or bag unless you are positive they wont be moved around and crushed, dont eat when you are reading them...or just be really careful if you do.

  • @michalaslife that may be your pet peeve, but for me I feel as if I haven't read a book very thoroughly if I'm not asking questions, underlining important quotes or words I don't know. When my books look beaten down, I know I have read that book very well. Books I want to keep in mint condition have their own proper place for me.

  • @hermionegranger024 that's cool also :) I admire people who can read so intently and don't care so much about keeping their books in mint condition! Some people had asked about it though so I thought this might help. I saw your comment about Once Upon A Time... Isn't it so good??

  • @michalaslife Haha well I think it's just about how people are comfortable reading. Doesn't demerit any reader, just means you don't mind if your book takes a beating. I am very careful with my movies. They need to be in their case and if there is more than one movie, must be in order. It does help though! I've been trying to knock the habit of practically tearing apart my books because I read them so much. I absolutely love Once Upon A Time! I love how they put their own twist :)

  • @hermionegranger024 yeah I agree! Yeah the show is really good :) I just watched the first two episodes two nights ago and then last night I watched all the rest haha it's so good! Do you know what channel/time it comes on? I watched them online so I'm not sure

  • @michalaslife It is amazing! Well for me, it's on channel 7 on Sundays but I am on pacific time and I live in California. I don't know what yours would be but it's on Sundays on ABC! If you go on the abc website, it'll tell you when you can watch your favorite shows!

  • @hermionegranger024 oh ok, thanks! I live in South Carolina haha sometimes I wish I lived in California because all the cool people like Whitney live there :)

  • @michalaslife Oh well that's awesome! Haha California IS amazing and I do live near a lot of people like Whitney, Luke, Joey, and Ingrid but it's not like I see them every day! I've only seen Joey once from afar at a Game Stop but I was too shy to approach him.

  • @hermionegranger024 Haha just the idea of living near them all is cool to me :) especially since when they do live gaming and stuff..its like SUPER late at night for me so I miss it a lot. That's SO cool that you saw Joey! I'm jealous ;)

  • Next summer I'm sooo gunna read as many of these as I can!! :)

  • i love you! you are like a library on 2 legs with a camera in the hand ! :P

  • You just got me spend a hour writing lists on books to buy.

I don't even dare calculate the cost of them all, but I can't wait for your part 2! :)
