Okay, an der Violine halte ich sehr viel von ihr. Aber als jemand, der seit 20 Jahren Piano spielt und aus einer klassischen Musikerfamilie kommt, erlaube ich mir hier mal zu sagen... okay sehr deutlich ihr Zweitinstrument! Man merkt es u.A. am fehlenden Fluss, etc. Ohne jegliche Arroganz, ansonsten Respekt!

...ok, das ist beeindruckend. Zwei Instrumente auf diesem Niveau. Nun muss sich Julia Fischer aber nicht mit Normalsterblichen messen sondern mit Ihresgleichen. Und da fehlt es am letzten Schliff. Leider auch bei der Geige. Bei Konzerten wie Sibelius, insbesondere 3. Satz sitzt alles nicht so gut wie bei den Top-Kollegen und Kolleginnen. Vielleicht sollte sie sich fokussieren.

Quite spectacular, but she could tone it down a little bit in places where she isn't precisely the most important. But this is the best version I've seen by a country mile.

Ich finde es ganz wunderbar, daß Frau Fischer es mit 2 Instrumenten versucht. Die Geige alleine macht einen echten Musiker in der Regel nicht glücklich, weil man kaum polyphon und harmonisch vertikal spielen kann. Und das Klavier ist eben sehr eingeschränkt in der Gestaltung der langen Töne. Beides zusammen, ein Traum. Und sie spielt schon gut und wird sich sicherlich noch steigern. Respekt für diesen Mut in Zeiten, in den nur der Fachidiot etwas gilt.

Mediocre? I guess you don´t know how hard it is to play the Grieg concerto. She shows real musicianship on a very high level and that´s what counts. Excuse me - most of these critics are written by persons that don´t have a clue how to make music.

Is this concert available on DVD? The second movement has just been taken down off YouTube, so I expect this video will be blocked soon, too. It's a shame to lose such an amazing performance of this superb piece.

@studyolic This performance is available on DVD. It has the complete Grieg and Saint Saens violin concerto. Julia Fischer did the piano & violin concertos back to back. The DVD is a live recording of the concert.

Most unusual. While it's known that many musicians play more than one instrument, to do this in concert is......well, historic? And it makes sense in this non-classical age when a top-tier one-instrument soloist can complete a season's touring in 5-6 weeks.  This could double usable touring time and also attract for the sheer novelty and astonishment!

One of such Greats is Sarina Zhang (15 years old now who plays both the cello and piano). She has just performed in the Dvorak Hall in Prague (Rudolfinum) - Saint Saens cello concerto and Rachmaninoff No.2 Piano concerto. Currently, Sarina Zhang is finishing her studies at the Juilliard Pre-college division.

Cello and violin are similar, but violin and piano are utterly different instruments. You need to train your right hand to play the piano; playing violin and cello needs not train your right hand fingers

I have never heard of such a thing. Such a funny thing. Both a concert pianist and a concert violinist. I would have thought this would be impossible. But here is the video to prove it. Fantastic! I can hear the Russian violinist and pianists, long since passed, looking down, laughing in amazement and crying at the very thought of it!!!! ! It is incredible!!!
