I saw Yes last year here in Argentina, I was lucky to see and hear steve howe playing, because Im 15 and I dont think I'll go to better concerts in the future!
I have always loved this peice. i tried to learn it but it was too hard. I did learn "mood for a day" (another great piece) Steve is probably the reason I ever tried to play guitar. I'll never be remotly as good as him. but He will always be my inspiration.
si e visto un video donde Steve tenia la intencion de cambiar el final de un tema en la gira de este año de Yes , pidiendole a la audiencia que no aplauda a la gente no le importo y no lo pudo hacer. tambien fue en Estados Unidos
I love the things he does. the complicated ones as well as the simple things apart from that his focus might be more on songwriting and not a bit on shwoing off fretboard wanking gimmicks.
Steve Howe... a better guitarist will never be! Unlike many musicians of his time, Steve Howe is still going STRONG! He plays some of the older tunes while throwing in newer stuff.. all of which have that kick that only Howe can do!
He's IMO, more progressive at guitar than I've heard in a long time... or at all.
Yeah, he's really racked up for the Queen lately , hasn't he?
He's really sweet too. He really got into my autograph paper. Held it for the longest time, said, "Wow"... turns the TV toward the wall, I guess he still does that. dunno. Iti's been a while.
No reason not to still enjoy their music! Yeah, they're in their 60's. They still made great music! Bo Diddly just died; you gonna stop appreciating music because of that? Learn and Enjoy!
Wow..wht a great experience that must have been! so cool that he didnt mind you so close taking video! I was realy into Yes..saw them for 99cents at the Paramount in Seattle...1975 i belive. i had poster of the art work.
ever since the writers strike, the mortgage crisis makes me happier now, hey, did that hurricaqne hit those bastids on the east coast, and such, Socrates?
Interesting how the innocent posting of my Steve Howe clip has turned into a debate, which could turn nasty. I was standing right in front of the stage when I took that clip and he never said a thing. I also took a boat load of pics when I went to see him in Asia and again he was quite OK. It must depend on how he feels on the day. I respect the wishes of the artist - if they don't want photos taken (e.g. Tool, Rush) then I will oblige.
@wraxtor01 Join the Steve Howe Appreciation Society run by Pam Bay, its online & totally free. Steve plays a gig for them once a year at the Fitzwilliam Centre, Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire. Tickets limited to a couple of hundred, its an intimate gig where he interacts with the audiance, he signs albums etc.. afterwards and you can meet him. He is not at all awkward & is very down to earth & has a good sense of humour.
I have personaly met Steve Howe more than once and I am here to tell you he is a great down to earth and friendly gentelman. Just because he does not want his pic taken does not make him above anyone, many famous people do not like they're pic taken. I and many have been moved to tears by his playing and I have witnessed him get 3 standing ovations playing acoustic alone, so what other players were you talking about?
I met him too, and you're right ON!! I can understand why he and Trevor didn't get along, Trevor is a cocky SOB,(with good reason, ugh)but still... it's Steve Howe that makes YES.
I'll accept that premise. I saw Steve play in a similar venue back in 1996 or so, the Pulling Strings tour. Got his autograph. Got struck by "celebrity fright" when I was talking to him. My wife suggested that I could have said "I'm your biggest fan, and how!"
I saw him with Asia on 7-07-07 and he was a jerk. No pictures is all that he could say. And he wasn't nice about. He thinks he's above everyone. Sorry Steve there are alot better guitar players than you out there.
Did I mention that I am a big Yes fan. He's good but their are alot better out there. No Malmstein, no Mclaughlin your right about them. Maybe you should try the other ones out I mentioned they are good. Freeman played with the Rippingtons, Morse played with the Dixie Dregs, Stolt plays with The Flower Kings, Batten played with Jeff Beck, Petrucci plays with Dream theater.
The only reason I got mad at him is because he told some people at a free Asis concert that they couldn't take pictures. He wasn't nice about either. He makes his money off the fans, they enjoy seeing him and listening to him. Without them he would be nothing. What's ironic is the rest of the band didn't seem to mind, Geoff Downes was smiling at me when I took his picture.
@foolishjerk -- my mentioning billboard was just a nod to his versatility. Clearly, he made the biggest splash in his career playing progressive art rock. A Dream Theatre junkie played "Metropolis" for me and I yawned. Impressive arpeggios, I guess. I countered with "Sound Chaser". He chose to discontinue the contest.
well, we all get old, and grouchy, and Steve was always shy, not in it for the autographs, pics and the likes... I got my autograph because I was with the Road Manager... he told me he didn't want to do that stuff to remain humble, and he ISN'T CONCEITED AT ALL. He is so sweet. He's in it for ONE thing....the music.
yes, you can tell by the fans clapping along they are a bunch of losers. Steve has to nod his head to help keep them on beat. Funny - - - I read once where Steve prefers that fans DON'T clap along to his soloes because that distracts from his ability to ad lib and provide more feeling to his music through tempo changes. True Steve Howe fans would recognize this. :-D
It may be true and as the filmer I didn't clap personally. However, the evening was very relaxed and the clapping in no way detracted from the brilliance of his playing.
Yeah, I've no idea why that should be. It plays perfectly well on my computer. Any ideas? I'll try and upload it again in case there was some kind of problem with the transfer.

My daughter is in her early 20-s, but loved them in her teens AND as a toddler. They put her to sleep at night. She demanded them.

If you notice, ever, when Mr. Howe gets happy when the bystanders begin to CLAP -- the whole point of the song!
He wants the listeners to participate with him in the play!
Watch other versions of this song. Only when others clap in time, does Howe respond in kind.

"Sorry Steve there are alot better guitar players than you out there. " ---
Um.... No, there aren't. You're talking about a guy
who is a virtuoso on a museum's worth collection of
eclectic guitars. You need to go watch Yessongs
again.
There may be a few guitars who you like better,
but they would probably concede "best guitarist"
to Steve.
quirkasaurus 4 years ago
This is a sujective topic but, Russ Freeman, Steve Morse, Al di meole, Roine Stolt, John Petrucci, Jennifer Batten I could keep going.
foolishjerk 4 years ago
Yes, subjective is correct. Please stop. Next,
you'll name Ywingie Maelstrom (sp?). Have these people
you mentioned ever had a Billboard hit or had
their music played anywhere other than NPR ?
Did they actually write anything ? Develop
a cult-like following spanning 4 decades ?
Honestly, the only guy i recognize is Al DiMeole
and I saw him live and he was BORING. I don't care
how technically gifted he was; he was BORING. Him
and that hack, John McLaughlin...

I forgot that you have to have been on the billboard to be good. I know what makes it on the billboard and there isn't much talent there.
foolishjerk 4 years ago
Okay, I respect Steve Morse. Have you heard Yessongs
version of "Yours is no Disgrace" ? The intensity
build up is unique. I'm sure we could have great
convo's about all this. email me at yahoo,
same ID. Perhaps you could mention some noteworthy
songs. I also love Brian May of Queen, and a real
obscure guy, Hisaaki Hogari, a Japanese studio
musician and bandmaster.

Yes, Yours is no disgrace from Yessongs is fantastic. That whole concert is great. I haven't bought the DVD yet. I need to get it.
