The Irish are such a great looking and intelligent bunch! No wonder the English wanted to own them. Haha oh well, I guess that didn't work out too well for them. This was the song sung at my father's funeral too. RIP. May God bless you and keep you.
The sad part about it is Ronnie thought he'd have a bout of cancer and recover. Unfortunately, that's not how it happened. Ronnie, you're missed by so many. God bless you.
Shanes heritage and family was irish,it does'nt matter where he was born,if his family was from texas but he was born in new york he would still be a texan, and trust me ireland and england are alot closer than new york and texas...it is where you family is that instills your traditions and values, not the nieghbors..
For all Irish on both sides of the Pond -- we miss ya Ronnie. A salute to all the Irish vocalists for keping us alive. In our memory and our heart forever -- Ireland.
@jros83 - also, as we all know Ronnie and the Dubliners collaborated with Shane for numerous songs, including probably the best version of Irish rover. I'm sure he'd disagree with your comment.
@jros83 he was Irish in all but blood you fool, Ronnie drew carried with him the spirit of Dublin but he was born in Dun Laoghaire and in Ronnie's words "no true Dubliner would accept that." Open your eyes and see that Ireland is a spirit not some lines on the map!
@metallica0019 lol facts are facts. shane MacGowan was born in England. Lived as much in England as he did in Ireland. His bio is not hard to come by. If it pisses you off so be it.
@jros83 I dont know if you know what an Englishman is but Shane certainly isnt one, not one bone in his body. The accident of birth in another place means fuckall.
Thanks for the lovely tribute to Ronnie Drew. A natural style to be proudly imitated but can never be actually repeated then perhaps those times are gone...what a good man passing.
being born in ireland myself and moving to england at the age of 3 months and moving to holland at the age of 10 i have always liked the music of the dubliners and hearing this tribute to ronnie drew makes me proud to be an irishman his voice definitely was unique and can never be replaced,i have had the pleasure of seeing the dubliners perform live and it was awesome
@manicinsanity123 Every Song Ronnnie Drew ever sang brings a tear to my eyes. Wish I could have seen him in concert, Such a voice of pure beauty and raw
@Sim1058 As I have read many times on youtube Sean has indeed passed away, Have a listen on my site to his " The Newry highwaymen" & Rose of Allendale" Luke Kelly also singing, The unquiet grave & The night visiting song. All masterpieces,
@Sim1058 I must really apologise & I am happy to, I read in one of the national papers about Seans passing also various references on peoples youtube. I have now done what I should have done in the 1st place & checked online. I am very sorry for any grief caused & am happy, no, very happy that as far as I know the great Sean is still around. What a great man & what a voice.
friends of mine went to the wexford inn back in the early 90s without tickets but money to buy them , they bumped into ronnie outside and asked him any chance for tickets and gave him money to cover them all , he called them in back about 10 minutes later and passed them into the seating area , gave them back their money and said " HAVE A GOOD NIGHT LADS " " I LOVE WHEN THE YOUNG ONES LOVE US "
