  • I wish England was like this, again... I missed the greatest era, of our nation

  • downloading 1st season now... can't wait =)

  • @SupremeTycoon Where are you downloading it from?

  • @ashleyzbz isohunt

  • Wait. Is that Bill Murrary at 0:46?

  • @tpaquin nope, Hugh Bonneville

  • I am beyond mesmorized! I have not seen, in the last 5 years, nothing that would come close to this. Downton Abbey is far superior to ANYTHING you may find in any of the networks. I only have two questions. Why can't we (in America) produce anything with at least half the quality? And I have sattelite TV... plus Netflix!

Where would I go to ask (and beg) PBS to run Downton Abbey from the very beggining, side by side with the new chapters? Netflix has a "long wait" on the earlier chapters...

  • Anne Rice just gave the most amazing review of this series on her facebook page. I just had to see what it is about. I must watch it!

  • "Downton Abbey" is a movie or a series drama?

  • @johnnyex. who said anything about fascism?

  • Continuation of comment- Instead, she takes the story

to Carlisle & tells him she really wants the story to be

published. Carlisle, the man who is romantically involved

with Lady Mary. Carlisle, the London newspaper owner

who would certainly not want to publish the story because

it would destroy his chances of ever persuading Lady Mary

to marry him. This subplot is quite implausible. But the

director is charging forward because he wants drama where

Carlisle puts pressure on Lady Mary.

  • Continuation of comment- When she took the story to Carlisle, or if she had taken it to another newspaper, I'm sure they would have done a thorough investigation & not simply taken the word of someone 3 persons removed. Also, I don't think it's reasonable to think Vera would choose to take the story to Carlisle instead of other newspapers. It's obvious she wants to hurt Bates, Anna & the Granthams. The best way to do that would be to take the story to a different newspaper. Continues
  • Continuation of comment- There would have been shame

upon the family, but they would certainly survive it. I enjoy

the series greatly. That said, the way the director presents

the scheming by Vera Bates is 1 of the weakest plot lines

in the series. She says she got the story of the Turk incident

from the maid of the cousin of Lord Grantham. As such, Vera

was 3 persons removed from any of the participants in the

cover-up, & Vera was of fairly low social class. Comment

    continues

  • To MrRoBeRt1087 - I didn't say that the circumstances

of the death of the Turk wouldn't bring shame upon the

family if the whole story appeared in newspapers. It would

have brought shame upon the family. If you recall, when

the wife of Bates told him she might go to the newspapers

& tell the story she told Bates she thought the family wouldn't

survive it (or might not survive it, I don't recall the exact word

she used). That was a huge exaggeration. Comment

    continues.

  • @LoneTinaja Believe it or not, the Turk storyline is based on real events! Julian Fellows expressed so in his booked published about Downton Abbey. And she is part a nobility family as they are thought very hgihly of in the county, so it would indeed bring an essence of shame upon the family

  • I've been watching Masterpiece for decades. Overall

this series is wonderful. That said, it is somewhat

inaccurate in its depiction of the seriousness of the

circumstances of the death of the Turk in Lady Mary's

bed. Sexual scandals by royalty & the nobility were

common. If the story had been printed in the newspapers

it would have ruined Lady Mary's prospects for a

prestigious marriage, but it wouldn't have brought down

    the House of Grantham

  • I haven't seen this show yet, but I could watch Maggie Smith going "hewmphewplewfmuthmeuph" all day.

  • @gueibor L.M.F.A.O

  • Sorry but who the hell dislikes this?!

  • whats chapter is 0:24 ?

  • Excellent show! Makes my list of favorites including Dexter, Breaking Bad, White Collar, Game of Thrones, Revenge and Walking Dead. Television isn't such a bad lot these days

  • I love love love that show! Usually, I hate soaps, but this one is a true exception, simply because it is made exceprionally good. I hope they never stop running it.

  • @simka72 Downton Abbey isn't a soap.

  • Between this and SHERLOCK i believe Britain makes the best television.

  • Production money well spent. At last we have seen what brilliant drama can be made when geat talent is brought together. Lets hope in runs for years.

  • This trailer is brilliant.

  • I didn't realize Maggie Smith was in this. Now it's a must-see! I'm glad it's on Netflix :)

  • Great show indeed, the series is coming to broadcast in TVB Pearl Hong Kong!

Hong Kong's local drama shows suck! The themes were all about "cold war for the inheritance/conflict of interests among the members in a bourgeoisie family" and "the Power plays among the Emperor's women". I'm sick of those boring story plots!

  • @Hunter6213 Thanks for the info. What time will it start in Hong Kong and will it be voiced-over in Cantonese?

  • @who288 TVB Pearl usually don't do Cantonese dubs during weekdays dramas.

  • @Hunter6213 Great!

  • It's so strange watching this over one year on.

  • 0:27 ITS MCGONAGALL

  • This was so refreshing after all the reality-show crap that has been sent the last few years.

  • easily one of the greatest shows of modern times

  • what version of the song is this? i really want to download it!!

  • @Rhiannon14608 It's by Scala & Kolacny Brothers, a Belgian girls' choir

  • I love Downton Abbey so much. can't wait for the Christmas special. :D

  • This is one of the best shows I've ever seen.

  • portraying a bookcharacter wich is known and loved by a whole generation!

  • i love maggie smith! not only because she brought mcgonagall perfectly to live like no other person could. she is such an amazing actress but i think people shouldnt undervalue her role in harry potter. it was like she came directly out of the books and im sure if you would ask her she would agree on how important this role was (not just for us fans) but for herself, being british and playing this important role! i bet mcgonagall is one of her roles she is really proud of...

  • best promo ever on ITV

  • This show isn't all about thinking that Maggie Smith is Professor McGonagall or not. The show is more deeper and more interesting for every character.

  • @somethingg8 I agree with you. Its more like people watching Harry Potter think : "wow! she is amazing". And then they just look up other places where they can admire her amazing acting.

  • @20thCenturySir It's much more than that. You cannot say that about such an accurately put and well written drama such as this. It depicts what life was really like for all back in the early 20th century. It is part of British National History.

  • who wants to watch a silly show about biscuits and little wenches?

  • This is one amazing trailer, i just keep watching it over and over again! So Good!

  • I'm sorry but why is there so much Turkish Ambassador in this trailer and so little MATTHEW?! *sob*

  • amazing, accurate and no free passports...

  • 0:53 KOVARIAN!

  • Anybody who like downton visit our channel

  • Hang on, is that McGonagall from HP!!! Wow, how did she get from HW to DA, thats's what i wanna know ! ;)

  • Maggie Smith's expression at 0:28 is priceless!!

  • @juliet13131 Maggie Smith ... priceless! You're right, one look says it all.

She just brings that extra bit of credibility to the show (not dismissing the other actors though, who are just tremendous). The dry humour of the Dowager Countess ... first class!

  • @BrounClan Ye i totally agree

  • so well made...this trailer and the series!

  • @writingso They're children's books -.- if you're not sure what that means, it's books WRITTEN FOR CHILDREN!

  • @cyberstrike2027 I thought everybody knew they are more young adults' books than children's books.

  • Absolutely LOVE this!!!!!!!!

  • Im american and I love this show. Just saying.

  • what version is this song? amazing

  • @MrsPattySilva I believe it's "Every Breath You Take" by "Scala & Kolacny Brothers".

  • Maggie Smith is truly that star of the show. she isHILARIUOS

  • it needs some nice black and Muslim characters surely.

  • @Gonzoidzz no fucking way. This is set in a time when Britain contained just British people.

  • @NottinghamForest22

back when britain really was GREAT Britain

  • @VigisKane oh yes it was really wonderful back then wasn't it? extreme poverty, no equal rights for women, imprisonment of gay people... only a daily mail reader could ever believe this is an accurate representation of life back then. it is a mere glorification of a time where everyone spoke "proper", wore lovely dresses, and everyone was bound to live the way they were expected to, particularly the working class, because education was so poor.

  • @cokeaddict08 @cokeaddict08 You are right it may not be that accurate, but have you seen the series? It touches on exactly those topics you mentioned homosexuality, women's rights, poverty, and the overall control of society by wealthy people. Just thought it was odd that you mentioned those things. I know its a glorified dramatic depiction of life then but it does show many of these things in a negative light and seems an almost contemporary view of issues at that time.

  • @VigisKane yes, more fascism! blood for the blood god! pride! pride!

  • @johnnyex Trying to be witty and condescending on youtube? How original.

  • @jlennox1 witty? nah nigga.

    condescending? non-issue nigga.

  • @VigisKane no shithead, the country was never called "Great Britain". "Great Britain" is the name of the largest island of the British isles archipelago.

  • @Gonzoidzz Can i ask why? This was a time when in England, it was unheard of for pretty much anyone to employ black or Muslim people. Downton Abbey is a wonderful series and if any black or Muslim characters were included they'd be ridiculed by both servants and family.

  • @RedRoosterRoad

But this is multi cultural Britain 2011. We have 10m plus non whites here and they must be represented at all times in a positive light or its racist. You are a racist.

  • @Gonzoidzz Absolute twaddle.

  • @Gonzoidzz

shut up prick, britain is BRITISH

  • Comment removed

  • Rah ces anglais, ils sont trop forts!!!!Ils ont le don pour nous faire rêver!

  • From which episodes are: 0:48, 0:27 and 0:33? does anyone know?

  • anyone knows what music was playing in this? I love it!!!!!!!!!

  • @Aimaru89 Every breath you take - Police

  • @Aimaru89 banda Sanora- every breath you take =]

  • Anyone else find that while it's still very good, season two doesn't stack up to season one?

I'm finding the new episodes in season two are a bit too jam-packed (like Dr Who has become).

  • @bored1980 I think its because they want to do the war justice, but you can still follow its just under the bar of too full i think

  • This show is the reason I hate american television now. Honestly, there's nothing good on anymore. It's just cop/crime drama or reality. My wife and I search all over for good programming and found this show and we are hooked. We just completed watching "Lark Rise to Candleford". Outstanding! I am a proud American but the programming here is so dissapointing. The British are winning me over with theirs. I'll not go fully British, although I own a Lee-Enfield Rifle, but your are slowly winning.

  • @mindeloman British shows are better in most things other than commedy, I have yet to find a British show I enjoy (that isn't stand up or pannel) thats funny :D And lee enfield=Win.

  • @xPopeOnARopex have you seen a show called extras? i never found british comedies to be funny until i saw that show.

  • @mindeloman well you need to see the walking dead and/ or homeland for example! there are A LOT of good US TV shows, you just need to find them ;)

  • @mindeloman this "show" is not american, is british. Learn before write...:)

  • @mindeloman I 'm Italian and I can tell that there is worse than American television! :) have you ever watched "the good wife" or "breaking bad"? They are great American shows!!Here in Italy I'm not sure there is any program to save! thanks god internet exists!

  • @mindeloman Haha, fuck you american.

  • @ChuckNorris449 why would you want to? Oh wait, I'm sorry. You're one of them. You're...gay. Hey, that's okay. This is a good time for you and your people to be living in. There have been lots of advancements of acceptance in society. Man on man love is acceptable now and I'm happy for you and your boyfriend(s). Sorry, I'm not into that. You must really love Americans though. You even chose a user-name after an American.

  • @mindeloman Wow, stereotyping much? Clearly your Grammar and spelling says everything about you, please if you're going to try to insult me come up something accurate... I could say you spell like a retard and your spelling reassembles that of a 5 year old.. Oh and I'm obviously British you stupid, stupid American come back to me once you've sorted your Grammar out.

  • @mindeloman Not all American television is poor. Sure, there is trash out there, but there are diamonds in the ruff. Mad Men, enough said.

  • I see her and think DAME maggie smith. Legend

  • I'm young and love this show, princesspinkblue- you don't know class when you see it, love.

  • @Jezebellic ohh..look who's judging

  • ahh.....the trailer makes the show seem so much better than it actually is. The trailer creates an atmosphere of mystery that the show seems to lack.

dont get me wrong, the show is exceptionally wonderful...yet the trailer is misleading in the fact that it portrays mystery that the show lacks

  • @writingso I actually enjoy the Harry Potter movies. What I'm referring to is 'youth' being blithely unaware of the talent of the actors making cameos in movies released in recent years.

  • great programme but those AVIVA sponsorship ads DEPRESS THE HELL OUT OF ME

  • Does anyone know where i can get this version of the song on the video?

  • @whilliamwithh scala: every breathe you take

  • @princesspinkblue thank you very much

  • @princesspinkblue thank you very much

  • My girlfriend made me watch this instead of Sky Sports news. An hour plus with no fights or boobs....what a load of bollocks.

  • this is my ultimate favorite series!!!

  • i miss the uk :/

  • every breath you take...sting

  • can anyone tell me the name of the song please !!!???

  • @balinausten every breath you take... by the police

  • @balinausten

Every Breath You Take- Scala& Kolacny Brothers

  • Excellent promo!

  • I don't know why this show keeps reminding me of Gosford Park

  • @DarthRong Julian Fellowes sounds familiar?

  • @DarthRong Julian Fellowes sounds familiar?

  • Congratulations on 4 Emmy awards! :D

  • Hate between Muslim and Jews is only a game for naive public.

9% of Murdoch's News Corporation is in Saudi hands.

Brother of Chancellor Osborne (he changed name 'Gideon' for George ,'cos he hides his Jewish heritage)is married to Muslim woman.

    Watch this:

    watch?v=mYvy_UJF44E

    and later:

'Orthodox Jews involved in London Riots'

and you'll know , who support multiculturalism and want civil war in the future in our country.

DEFY. Boycott Muslim-Jewish firms: Barclays, M&S, Topshop, Unilever

  • i love this tune!

  • congrats on winning couple of Emmy Awards, Downton Abbey :)

  • Song is sung by Scala & Kolancy Brothers

    /watch?v=ZICJ2ZPh63Y

  • It saddens me that people see Maggie Smith and think Professor McGonagall. She is so much more than Harry Potter, children.

  • @kitnkabootle I see her and think Sister act :p

  • @kitnkabootle I totally agree with you. Maggie Smith is a lot more than Harry Potter's. she is one of the greatest comedians in British media. She is also amazing in Drama. it's a dream for me to meet her.

  • @kitnkabootle Isnt she just amazing in this series! Priceless!! I cant even think of her as McGonagall cuz she just fits this role so perfectly!!!

  • @kitnkabootle That's such an amazing character, of course many of us will always think McGonagall, but it doesn't mean that's all she is.

  • @kitnkabootle I don't think most of the world looks at Maggie Smith and thinks McGonagall... I think they look when she played in Harry Potter and think Maggie Smith.

  • Just realised, I recognise Downton Abbey from another tv series, Jeeves and Wooster, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie starred, the house was called Totleigh Towers!!

  • Never watched it before, but seeing this on tv has definetly made me wanna watch it. Bring on tonight! ;)

  • it is tonight! my mom and i are glued to our sits. lol cant wait!

  • best drama series ever! and the production was excellent!

  • Stuffy cultures like upper-class Brit society sure leads to some hilarious melodrama.

  • @shespeakssoftly enjoy watching jersey shore then. lol low lifers

  • Who sings this version sung by???

  • OH MY!!! MY ultimate favorite!!!! Cannot wait!!!

  • Can't wait!

  • Hooray the best historical TV drama for a long time is back - Sunday Night's are back in the room - can't wait - thank you thank you - and those amazing theme songs too - love the arrangements - excellent.

  • @xILoveSmilesx same same!! If mr.carson dies, I will refuse to go to school and then jump off a bridge!! :)

  • Just in case anyone wants to know, the song is Every Breath You Take by Scala and the Kolacny Brothers.

  • @Impignorate Thanks a lot, I was precisely wondering what it was when I saw your comment :)

  • Whats the matter harry? thats all she normally says LMAO

  • Thumbs up if you know this song from the social network trailer.

  • @15iiii I think it's the same chorus.

  • what 's the name of the chorus singing the song?

  • what song is this?

  • Why aren't there any minorities in this?

  • @MAKootage Firstly its a historic British drama set in upper class society, England in the early 20th century was hardly diverse aside from the occasional ambassadors. But of course back then the "minorities" were the Irish and Scots and anyone with an accent or poor parents. I mean then in America the Irish were not considered "white" people.

  • @fluidicmethod I was trolling. Why would there be Patels in this?

  • @joyann Hugh Bonneville tweeted this: "Enough with the questions already: people can watch #DowntonAbbey Series 2 in Sept in UK. Gawd knows when it goes out anywhere else." Search it with Google, there are plenty of articles.

  • Hahhahaa omg I knew the top comment wud say PROFESSOR MCGONOGALL.

  • I DONT GET IT!

  • lots of people peering through doors and windows

  • can't wait for season 2!!!!! Hope it gets to the US soon!

  • Professor Macgonagall aka Maggie Smith 0:27
