By the time he made this disc,he was well on his way to switching from straight country to rockabilly. He changed the band's name to the comets shortly thereafter
Bill Haley and the Comets, in my opinion were the original group to transition from country to rockabilly then to rock n' roll. Carl Perkins also did it but a few years later. Bill Haley and the Saddlemen played mostly country and evoloved to become the Comets with some changes. P.S. My mother used to dance around the kitchen listening to this song (live). They praticed on the porch of the house behind us in PA.
Rock the Joint was originally done in 1949 by Jimmy Preston and in 1951 by Jimmy Cavallo before Bill Haley did it. Cavallos version was the hardest rocking versiion.
1951 Bill Haley and his Comets redid Ike Turner's Rocket 88 to make the first Rock n' Roll song (disputed). Bill Haley and the Saddlemen never did Rock n' Roll, only C&W and rockabilly.
Rockabilly was the sparse, wonderful, loose, slurred, hic cuppy, hot potato in the mouth music of the South not the big band, accordians and saxaphone music of the equally wonderful Bill Haley from the North. Naturally this is only my opinion but can you tell me that ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK is either Rockabilly or Country music for i dont see how.
@jd45jd45 That should be Jackie Brenston's "Rocket 88". Man, didn't you ever see a record label!!!! "Rocket 88" wa written by Jackie Brenston and he sang the lead on it. Where do you get Ike Turner from? In fact, the first rock and roll record was "Crazy Man Crazy" by Bill Haley from 1953. Jackie Brenston was always R&B. He wrote a follow-up record called "My Real Gone Rocket" also on Chess. But Brenston was always R&B. And Ike Turner's records flopped and were never hits.

Bill Haley never sang rock & roll in his life. It was country at first and then boogie woogie, even in 1954 or 1956. The songs were r&r songs allright, but the way he was treating them was simply boogie woogie.

Got the 78...with Green Tree Boogie on the other side...the ending chord on this one always fascinates me...a 6th with a dominant bass note...love it
