I really paid too much for Hoffman box I paid 60 bucks for it. on ebay LOL I paid too much for my battery cables that are only 4awg I think at advanced auto parts. Man did i get ripped off. I d like to know were you got those awesome battery cables at? My meter was about 20 but its a 75 amp not too bad a deal and its really old stock. I wonder if it has a shunt in it? I need some fuses still dont have any where the heck did you get that fuse holder and fuse for four bucks at?
How can you tell if your analog amp meter has a built in shunt or not ? I might have bought one that dosen't have a shunt built in. Also, I have seen people connecting the meter in series with the positive side and some on the negative side. Does it matter? I have seen the development of your system from the start. I'm watching to see what I can emulate to make mine better. Thanks for showing.
@wtam69 Yes, that is a common problem. The ad should say but if the "back view" is rather thin then the shunt is not internal. Ammeters are basically voltmeters measuring volts across a low-ohm but physically large power resistor (shunt). The one I bought did have "internal shunt" identified in the ad. This is a Class 2.5 meter which means that in the "core range" (5-45A) the reading is within +/-2.5% of the real value, which on a 50A scale is +/- 1.25 amps. Plenty good for this application.

@Fearlessthinker Thanks. I learn something new today.

@wtam69 On the question on which side of the battery to measure the amps, it doesn't matter other than it is safer to have it on the negative side.
