Sailor's Life for Me and She May Have Seen Better Days. What other songs? Speaking of which, who wrote She May Have Seen Better Days? Need to get away from this other guy that adds his own intro.
Awesome tune but the lyrics are way off. One example - It's not "If only it's barely a dream" - The correct lyric is "If only his belly agreed!" It actually makes sense, and is even a bit funny.
Hey, lads, IlldariCouncil here. Unfortunately I've lost my Youtube account info due to the awesome fact you have to bind it to a(n) e-mail account. So, if you're wanting me to re-post lyrics or anything along those lines, it won't happen because I've lost the e-mail account. Have a good day!
Oh, and the original recordings are high quality. They were trashed by the game developers to make them sound like a scratchy old WWI-era grammophone. I'm fine with that.
Hey, I wrote the songs last year when the publisher had difficulty licensing actual songs from that era. They were licensed; I still own the copyrights.
Correct answers: "...soggy old trench..." "... when his feet e'er left the shore..." (old English for "ever") "...if only his belly agreed."
One of these days, I'll post all the lyrics on my website. Thanks for your interest.
@IlldariCouncil Sorry for the late reply but it was on the news you can probably search it up whatever though the allies won and thats all that matters RIP Veterans of all wars
@IlldariCouncil He died a long time ago...Amagine when the last WWII veterean dies. Then future generations will know who fought the second world war.
Funny how people only bother to input their version of the lyrics AFTER someone has already input theirs. But yeah, as I said before, it's not a great lyric sheet, but what's done is done. You may always ask llldari to replace the old lyrics with y'alls own. Thank you for your time
I kept re listening to that part but honestly all i hear is "But when his fleet had left the shore" I might be wrong and i'm pretty sure i am because my ear's are jacked up from listening to my MP3 for so long >.<
@IlldariCouncil -shrug- old songs are just hard to make out without lyrics, due to recording and sounds being clunky. Due mostly I suppose to transfering old songs to new tech
yo ho ho its the sailors life for me. A soggy old trench with a stone for a bench is not my cup of tea. Yo ho ho sailing wide and free, if only his belly agreed!
a soldiers life is no life for the song of a sailors song marching to here, marching to there. But when his company sailed to war his ship had not left the bay, before he came ill, ever so ill, even the sea gulls turned away....etc...

Are u sure he says if only it's barely a dream? It's sounds like if only his belly agreed. (like if he doesn't get sea sick.)

its not really that hard to understand, good quality recording, just a heavy accent
Riding the waves! The wind in his face!
But when his feet fell up the shore, (Old English expression of the time)
That place had turned quite pale!
Even in Seas as bad as you please,
A soggy old trench, (more likely than foggy, they had no roof, rain got in)
With a stone for a bench,
"Yo Ho Ho! Sailing wide and free!"
If only his belly agreed. (hes seasick, hence the comical trombone in the music)

@lewismurray1 exactly on the "If only his belly agreed" it makes the most sense.
mcz1945 1 year ago
it sounds more like he says, "if only his belly agreed.", not, "if only it's barely a dream." Just saying.

it sounds like he is saying "a soggy old trench" not foggy -.-

I believe I got a part wrong, it makes more sense to say
"But when his fleet came up to shore"
instead of my original
"But when his feet ran up the shore"

@MagisterAkaiMagi I know Stan and I have all the sheet music, album and lyrics. Here they are!
Way down in his trench the Private dreamed of sailing on the sea, riding the waves the wind in his face.
But when his feet ere left the shore that face would turn quite pale, Even in seas, Flat as you please, he would wind up at the rail.
But even though his love of the sea was never meant to be, as he sits in his trench you can hear the poor lad sing...

I don't think these songs are as old as they seem to be, I was looking on the Signal website and the songs were copyrighted for 2009, I'm just saying
bartlett88 1 year ago
@bartlett88
Given that it is being re-used in Toy Soldiers, they may have procured the copyright recently.
