Good playing. No one matches Starker's ability to play this piece though. She does a lot of musical things that just don't make sense... But it's decent playing I guess
Vasiljeva is an outstanting cellist- you could not be otherwise if you attempted this Kodaly piece. Still, the piece itself needs an impretor, who's gone long past grammar and syntax. That will come, I'm sure. Still, her playing it makes a few parts more lucid, don't you think?
Of course Starker's version, is the nearest to perfection, such purity of intonation and sound, such precision, such clairvoyance of this music... undeniably legendary and out of this world!!! But I think Vassiljeva gives a really good go at it too. It's an incrediblty difficult piece. All credits to her for being one of the few cellists who can play it well, with such enthusiasm and most importantly...until the end!!!!
I think if Kodaly were alive to hear this he would be thinking "Whoa, horse! What's the rush?" She tries to play most everything too fast, sacrificing notes and intonation everywhere along the way. She should take a few master classes with Starker. Maybe she would gain a little respect for the composer and give his notes a little more gravity. As it is, she is just showing off her dexterity and not giving us Music. Too bad, although a valiant effort.
great performance! soo amazing to watch anyone play this piece. however i dont think anyone can give starker a run for his money when it comes to this piece =/

She's incredible! She has a great interpretation. Could give Starker a run for his money.
