Really sharp looking Galaxie! My favorites are the 61-64 models.
Why did you put those '76 AMC sport rims on? They were used for the Gremlin and Matador "X" models in the mid 70s. Nice looking wheels, but I prefer factory stock.
I have been an old car nut for decades, I currently own a mint 1969 Corvair Monza SS, one of the very last Corvairs made.
Enjoy you car, it shows the hard work you put into it!...Bill H.
I had a '62 Galaxie 500 in 1977 when I was in high school. One time I managed to get a band's equipment into the trunk and back seat (drum set, guitars, amps, etc.) and seven people into the front seat (four across and three on the laps of the three next to the driver - me). It had a 4-barrel 390, with electromechanical overdrive 4th gear (usable with either 2nd or 3rd gear of the manual trans). Women, friends, and I loved that car, but it was expensive to feed.... - LHS
Glad to see other people that had Galaxies out there.. I've fit 10 people in the car, 4 in the front and 6 in the back, with a spare tire in the back, 6 backpacks, a tenor saxophone and two guitars.. Acoustic... I definately had a big load.
Mine is automatic, so I don't have the overdrive yours had.. Wish it did though, that would improve my mileage at +50 mph.
What was really fun with the overdrive was racing another car and then walking away from them with that extra gear and torque. The 62-64 Galaxies (maybe 61 too, I'm not sure) have a really robust 'O' frame. Same generation GM sedans had an 'X' frame. The X type is lighter, but you're more likely to live if you hit (or are hit) the side of your car with Ford's 'O' type. Check out that massive square tube of steel along the side, under the car. Galaxie's are premium cruisers. - LHS
Yeah, I know which steel tube you're talking about, my father and I had to pull out some small dents in the side of it, and we took a look underneath and it's really a solid frame. And yeah, it's definately a great cruiser.
Ya see that guy in front of you? In my 67 I wouldnt!!!!!

The reason I had put these rims on is because a friend of mine gave them to me for free, and the rims that I got with the car were mis-matched

woow this looks incredible! is it allowed to drive without seatbelts?
richardmoeller 3 years ago
totally am, man, if it was factory made without them like this one was, it's not required to have them put in.
