When the mask was pulled away, it revealed an old misfigured man, instead of a young man of mystery

It's sad, Raoul always knew a part of her would always belong to the Phantom. And if this was happening to me, I would choose Raoul, not the Phantom. Because to be kidnaped, and then forced to become somebody's bride doesnt seem like a very fun life. Raoul could offer her the world, and the Phantom could only offer darkness. Not to say he isnt hot, I love Gerard.

It's in the real opera too and also in the oldest version.

It supposed that the phantom wears a wig as to make himself look in completion.

So to be a more tragic scene the wig has to go also with the mysterious mask...

She wants to be with Raoul, so she's ready to give Erik up to the police! That conniving little bitch owes everything to Erik; he taught her to sing, basically handed her career to her on a silver platter, and she just threw it all back in his face for some pretty little rich boy.

If you pay attention to the story, you learn that, although the Phantom really did love her, she didn't love him; her and Raul were madly in love. She pitited him, she maybe even could have liked him, but to a girl in such an innocent age as the late 19th century, a man who goes around killing workers as revenge for a play not being acted as he wanted, or for his seat not being left empty, wasn't really something worth doing. And the fact that she had known Rual MUCH longer helps their case too.
