  • The problem with this device is that the trumpeter still ends up sounding like a trumpet player playing a sax [or whutever instrument pad is accessed]. Trumpet players unfortunately have this way of improving, of choosing the notes in a solo passage , I guess due to the only 3 valves, that you can always identify the solo as being that of a trumpeter. @ 1:45 clearly a trumpet player, TRYING to sound sax-ey; it doesn't fool me.

  • So lets say sax was my main instrument and I played the MDT.. would I make it sound "sax-ey" then? I think you're  looking at this wrong.. I don't believe this instrument was created to change the way he plays but the way he sounds.. hence why he is playing the MDT and not a trumpet or real sax.

  • i dont like this thing much....you cant ever get real trumpet or saxophone tone. No matter how hard we try...we cant get around actual knowledge of how to play any instrument.

  • The point isn't to sound exactly like the sax or trumpet. They're aiming for an electronic sound.

  • It has nothing to do with not knowing how to play- I own one, and it's at least as hard as playing an acoustic trumpet (which i also used to play)- the difficulty just lies in different areas :) The MDT certainly makes it super easy to play a ton of range... But hell, i can get the entire range out of a piano the first time i sit in front of one, doesn't mean it's easy ;)

  • Should also add that the "tone" is in the sound module and sound james selected- you can "play" any midi instrument sound you want, the MDT is like a cross between a midi keyboard and a wind instrument- it doesn't have any sound on its own...

  • I've seen this idea in many instruments, like the EWI for example. This is a cool idea as u can experiment with sound in different ways using different computer sounds and ure own ombosure (can't spell lol)

    If I can find one I might actually buy!

  • it actually has nothing to do with your embouchure. you just blow. there are buttons on the side which control register. you would use something that resembles an embouchure for tonguing purposes only, as no buzzing actually occurs.
