i have a pellet stove and its the greatest investment ive ever made. pellets are $3.88 for a 40 pound bag and each bag lasts about 2 days if i run it 24/7. i cant believe i wasted so much money on propane using my hvac system.
Wood stoves are alot of work cutting splitting and drying wood. Pellet stoves are easy and a good investment. We bought a new englander pellet stove last year our electric bill in January was around 400$ after installing the pellet stove it was 100$ and pellets cost at tractor supply about 250$ a ton summerset pellets (Brand). A ton of pellets last us 2 months depending on how cold it is and for how long its cold.
@surfflyfish4striper Hmmm....although a wood stove would give off more intense heat if you loaded it up, a pellet stove would give more consistent heat with less work loading the "fuel." Most importantly is your access to wood, if you have plenty on your property and are able to chop it up, you'd be heating your home for free all winter! In that case even I would go with a wood stove :)
