This game, not 2600 Pac-Man, was what soured me on early consoles. The packaging was mind-blowing but gameplay was a nightmare. I truly believe there were sadists on the design team. If you played using the board (did anyone?) a game would last about four weeks. Thief was literally invisible but still moved like a crippled snail - you'd let up on the button to find out where you were and get chomped by a cthulhu you thought you'd walked past five minutes ago. What even happens if you win?
Rubbish! This game was ace. You just needed to learn the tactics. The nightmares were the worst. And the infernoes, for me, because I loved playing as the phantom.
I remember that game too, but hardly recall the map and tokens, I was born in 1975 and was pretty young when I played that game (among others).
This game was quite difficult, I remember; one of the characters was able to walk through walls (except through lava walls), and the enemies were sometimes very quick.
Here in Spain it was called (the machine) Videopac, instead of Odissey.
I liked being the wizard or the warrior. The only problem with this game is that you NEEDED more than one player. So I'd usually wind up playing as a wizard with one joystick and a warrior with the other. I got pretty good at dual joystick play, lol.
That flying thing is the monster from Cloverfield if I am not mistaken. Played this for hours back in the day; horrific to look at now but back then, ace.

These videos make me appreciate modern day games so much more..I applaud your fortitude to play these games for hours. I could barely stand watching for the the first minute.
Of course you cannot. Go play CS and get the hell out of the Professional's room.
Talking serious now, programming games and any other thing without less than 8 Kilobytes was a hard task, and that opened the path for gameslike CS today.
Oh man I was 12 and my best friend Ronald McNeil and I would play this game for hours! We never used the game board or the tokens we just fought the monsters. I also recall a character who could walk through walls and another who could turn invisible. The walls shifted on some boards and were hot on others. I want my youth BACK!!!
@EYEluvGAMES - I think you spoke to most of the crowd that played the game at the time. Tokens.... no thanks....just put the big game box over there thanks. I was 10 at the time I can't begin to count the hours on this game. Then I click on this video and like a shovel to the forehead it all comes back to you in an instant. Like it was yesterday.
You are correct - there was a "thief" and a "phantom" - one invisible the other walk through walls. one level shifting walls, the other lava
@EYEluvGAMES I loved this game too! Same here, my brothers and I never used the board or tokens either we just played the game. IMO this was probably the best game they ever make for this system. The cool box and art work in the book just got you into it.
OMG FLASHBACK!!!

Damn! This game was SO freakin tough! I was born in 1974, so I had to be about 5 when this was out. Maybe that had something to do with it too!

I remember that it was very expensive and came in a big box. With coins representing the rings and a big gameboard.
Memories :)

Remember the beautiful packaging that came with this game, including the amazing-looking gameboard?
Not the most challenging game for the O2, but still fun and great if you were a D&D fan.

The thief's official name was the "changeling". In some ways the most powerful character, although the hardest to master.
