I am whatever the opposite of a music theorist is, but I will say I heard Danny in an interview on KROQ in the very early 80s where he said he composed Boingo's music with an eye towards how it would sound live and the arrangements didn't always translate into the studio. If you ever saw them live, particularly in an acoustically sound venue like the Palladium or even the Forum, what he said makes a lot of sense. Their live work was always better than their studio stuff.

Boingo still rules.

"The Forbidden Zone" was a feature film from 1980 directed by Richard Elfman. It features Oingo Boingo music, Herve Villaichez (Tatoo from Fantasy Island), and Danny himself as Satan. It was meant to recreate the experience the feeling of attending an Oingo Boingo concert...before I saw Alejandro Jodorowsky's "The Holy Mountain" I had labelled "Forbidden Zone" as the weirdest movie I had ever seen.
