  • @ Epicurus (spooky!). Yo, the "alive" dude, I learned all about you on the internet. Send me your blessings, no questions asked. Woof woof! Bow wow woo! Ya know! I studied Epicurus under say ataraxia which I've seen in Wikipedia, I wrote down the way of life on a sheet of paper, and heard Epicurus left writing on a wall. Knowing my epicurus, I think you're wise, of which I am convinced you are, and I'm convinced modesty brings about peace. Any questions or comments, mail it at I Know It All Man.

  • @SnorkleGorkle Excuse me? A nazi? I don't get you. But I admire your question. I relearned epicureanism, a blissful way to live. And what's a "nazi"? I ain't about to bite you!

  • As a child, I have always enjoyed the oracles, and even dreamed about dating a few. But when you learn the teachings of Buddhist/ Gnostic Christianity. That childhood dream was even more unrealistic. But I still dream about oracles. Even more when you communicate for positive answers from my own government.

When will our government realize that; they are only calling for yes men. (But i know i did best in my keep the vows.)

  • @1awareness Who are you talking to? About reading someone's philosophy? I read their philosophy, and it's to my knowledge that I dub myself arrogant not an aggressive controller, now run along!

  • Amen, to the Gop

  • Amen

  • Epicureanism is basically a lifestyle choice of a posh person who analyses, and is having simple pleasures even with no money, or while a hobo, I've seen it, many a hobo is brilliant and classy. But epicureanism is the best: I like eating, Buddhist music is my only pleasure in music, so Epicurus leaves pleasure to your imagination: make it up, and be wise enough to have luxuries despite poverty, overwhelmingly pampered, very high quality philosophy.

  • @Hoobifta That's a beautiful summary of Epicureanism.

  • @1awareness Amen-Ra

  • I'm very comfortable with serious philosophies. I can't be a hedonist, that's one of those disagreeable amoral things. Epicureanism and hedonism are two very different pleasure ways of life. Hedonism is good, but it's lacking in an unexplainable subjective feeling of poverty and not overeating. Fat people can be hedonists, epicureanism is a totally different pleasure way of life; glitters, is gold, so I think if you don't live this way you don't get it.

  • Philosophy should replace religion :)

  • @FoieGras974 Amen, brother!

  • @FoieGras974

Where do you think religion came from? :P

  • @FoieGras974 for us maybe; but religion has it's place.

  • @FoieGras974 they should coexist..

  • Do I detect a sort of Spartan austerity in an Athenian here? Surely not! :)

  • This awesome. Epicurus is the future! Why can't we all understand this dude? (To paraphrase Rodney King.)

  • HEY !

Can you tell me what book this reading is from? Great Stuff!

What are some other good introductory Epicurus book?

  • @dobie007 No probs."The Epicurus Reader" by Inwood & Gerson. You should be able to find it in any bookshop with a decent sized philosophy section. Failing that... try amazon. It's on there.

  • @dobie007 the works of epicurus; try to find in older copy.

  • epicurus wise oh wise oh wise man you are i love you sir thank you so so so much

    wayne marley

  • This guy was one badass philosopher - excellent post

  • @KeliMutiso

    Cheers! He certainly was! :D

  • <3 Epicurus. Such an enlightening and simple view of life and death.

  • I love Epicurus he is the no bullshit philsopher. He is the most relevant to practical day to day living, I love how he talks about the virtue of basic living so that when man taste's extravagance it is more pleasurable and he will no know fear in discarding said extravagance.

  • The thing I especially love about Epicurus is that he's no extreme ascetic, tho. He specifically warns against shunning all pleasure.

e.g. "There is also a proper measure for parsimony, and he who does not reason it out is just as badly off as he who goes wrong by total neglect of limits" - Vatican Saying 63

Basically, him, and he forerunner Democritus, were just plain swell ;) :D

  • I think I've just discovered I like listening to philosophy better than reading it... heh! :D Thanks for this.

  • Hey, cheers! :D

  • @aquarius1986 No worries, man. Glad to be of service. Perhaps I should release a CD, eh?

  • Nicely read!

  • Hey cheers :D

  • very good, me boy. 5/5!

  • "Epicurus on tape? What d'ya mean? Like recording and distributing it? :S" Ya, like books on tape. You could market it "Philosophize while you drive." hehe

That could cause accidents tho as peoples minds inevitably would begin to wander.

  • Ace 8)

  • IT's a lawsuit waiting to happen, tho, innit. Should be "Philosophy on the Train", but that's less snappy. :(

  • Thanks Bryan, you speak very well. Ever consider doing some Epicurious on tape? ;)

    The Greeks were quite wise.

Have you read any Epictitus? I was actually thinking of reading some of his work on YT.

  • Hi Psy,

I have spedread parts of Epictetus' manual online. But I haven't actually sat down to properly go thru, ponder, and read his stuff... YET. :D

The Greeks were wise indeed. When they weren't trying Socrates for impiety that is LOL

Epicurus on tape? What d'ya mean? Like recording and distributing it? :S
