  • About 30 years ago, a few miles south of this Citgo oil refinery was the huge Texaco oil refinery in Lockport, IL and on the same road. It closed down when Texaco pulled out of the Chicago area market in the early 1980's. Many of the storage tanks from the Texaco refinery still exist and apparently are still in use.

  • it looks like a totally poluted world! and the music doesnt help! Lol!

I go to a school thats like 10 min away and the citgo ppl tried to tell us how they arent poluting that much. :p

    yea right

  • nice music

  • I work for a company that has an IR (infrared camera on that place 24.7 with them knowing. Its not illegal as long as you're not on their property. Got some awesome pictures of it at night while I was up there working.

  • you realize that video taping any refinery is illegal per national security right you might want to remove this

  • I have done a lot of environmental contract work there over the last 4 or 5 years. Let me tell you. It is no easy task getting work done in a timely matter due to all sorts of safety regulations. Its a cool place to work. I have always enjoyed it and the workers are great too.

  • how does one of these refineries make profit. if u had the money to build one of these how would you sell the end product? is there a demand?

  • @mastamase you buy crude, refine it, and sell the finished product (jet fuel, gasoline, etc.). Is there demand? Is that a hypothetical question? Yes, there is ENORMOUS demand for oil.

  • Boy ain't that a picture at 1:30. nice shit, gotta love New Ave!

  • Damn, I reckon that's bigger than any similar plant in my own country. Some years ago, I took some snaps of a Mobil refinery in my home town, taking my time strolling around the perimeter fence of the plant and not rushing or attempting to conceal my photo-taking, but it must have been before The War Against Terrorism (TWAT), because I wouldn't do it now. Even with the most innocent of motives, such actions would attract suspicion and likely trouble in the post-TWAT era.

  • Some college students were shooting photos of this plant for a photography course not too long ago. They were parked legally on the side of the road and were not trespassing. Apparently, a cop came up, threatened them with arrest and questioned them for hours.

  • can you also do this at night that would be awesome

  • I've thought about it.

  • @BoxcarFrank dude go for it, going by here at night and in the winter is amazing, you can really see the heat come from this place. I'd get out the tripod and stand there, but even though you are on Romeoville public property when standing on New Ave, Citgo bitches will confiscate your stuff.

  • @Andrewsaxamophone if I'm on the road, Citgo cant take anything from me. The only way your stuff could be confiscated is if you were arrested.

  • @BoxcarFrank You read that Ilinirail thing though right? That's what happened to the guy.

  • @Andrewsaxamophone don't believe illinirail they'll brainwash you.

  • ha ha its funny that the way i take home everyday is on youtube.

  • it's UNOVEN= UNION VENESOLANA

    or CITGO FOR US

I work there ones and at the canal unloading/loading barges very hasardaus job they pay god, (it blow ip ones abouth 15 years a go)

  • lol i've been there.

  • uh....thats definitely not chevron, its citgo, it says it on the sides of the tanks in the tank farm....i work on the coker unit there.

  • I just love breathing that stuff.

  • Smells wonderful..

  • Chevron doesn't have a refinery in Lemont IL. Think you might have gotten a clue by the huge CITGO logo on the tank as you drove by - Knucklehead!

  • Cool video. I work at a chemical plant in Midland, Mi. and the skyline I see when I go into work is very similar. Are they doing any expansions here at all?

  • Not too sure

  • That is a citgo oil refinery....I work there

  • liver, lol no live

  • huge! thats even bigger than the Exol ethonal plant thats near where i liver!

  • Damn what an industry!!!

  • What was the road that you started filming at?

  • The intersection of New Ave. and Romeo Rd.

  • just googled that...so, looks like you were headed north or south new...hopefully you were using a tripod...incidently the music is cool...

  • North, and no tripod. LOL I was watching the road and holding the cam.

  • And yes Alice In Chains is kickass LOL.

  • You shouldn't operate a camera while driving Frank. Especially the way you drive. You should take me next time and I'll handle the camera.

  • reminds me of pasadena, tx, esp, the coker at 3:46...way cool

  • Ya I wish I could get a video of the CN switching the coke quencher. But security is too high for any railfanning around here.

  • i know...and we are winning the war on terrorism, right...

  • No kidding. LOL

  • i still wanna catch a coal drag being emptied...that would be cool, too...

  • You can see that South of Joliet at the Will County power station. If you can get around there with a camera. My guess is no...

  • mmm love the smell of lemont

  • I'm glad you did that because a lot of people don't get to see all the industrial plants that the railroads serve in different parts of the country.

  • I'm thinking about doing some other prominent industrial sites served by railroads.

  • yeah...google maps for "highway 225, laporte, tx"; get "satelite view"...then scroll west, following highway 225...

  • Wow Texas is known for the oil business

  • wow! cool you should get a vid of it being switched!

  • Ha if the guys at the refinery see you with a camera, they'll get suspicious.

  • big ass factory.
