its a great song in french or german! and a piece of nostalgia suppose there can never be a like for like translation from the original french, the comment from someone who remembers their grandmother singing it in german reminds us what certain songs/music means to families and memories, thanks for that.
My Grandmother loved this song when she was young back in 1938 when she was 16 years old, just before my grandfather passed in 1993 he played this little tune on the piano and my grandmother Hilda sang along in German when my dad and his two brothers were children back in 1963 or 64. Now that she is 89 turning 90 Me and My dad asked her to sing this song one last time and very luckily she stills remember the tune and the German Lyrics.
Komm zurück? That is a weird translation. J'attendrai would mean, in my humble knowledge to French, something like 'I am waiting' (implicit 'for you').
Yes you are 76 and I have studied German military music for over 40 years. The German forces liked a lot of sentimental songs, they were played on their Wunschkonzerts and Lili Marleen is a very sentimental song. This old sailor just said he could remember this being played on board the Bismark and it was the last piece of music he could remember hearing and couldn't remember any other music after it had been played. I respect his age and have no reason to doubt him.
I first heard this song first when I watched the great German war movie "Das Boot" ( the U-Boat ) . The movie was superb but it was this song that stayed most in my memory. I have listened to it many many times, performed by different singers...and it really does not matter who sings it for it is in the Lyrics that lies the secret. ..that feeling of nostalgia, sadness and longing that touches ones' heart deeply. It almost make me like the dark days of the pre and War time Europe.

Nor do I believe holocaust should of happened but thing its always on your people's minds its kind of mentally handicaps you and you divide people on actions. Yet, my point is your up on your high-horse.
People like goatface are disgrace to anyone because your the cancers that still inflict upon Germans worldwide. I wont even list what the English did worldwide. Listen to the song and stop bringing up the war for once. Let these people RIP for once.
@123GlobalFailures I thought I had made it clear I am not anti German I merely stated that the horrors of the concentration camps and what the nazis did should never be forgotten. You seem to think that the English are guilty of crimes to numerous to list howver anything that they did is nothing compared to the holocaust. You mustbe like many Americans jelous of us?
Right, Oliver Cromwell did not do a genocide? Edward "the Longshanks" was very "clean" on his treatment of the Scottish. Get real the list over the years puts in the numbers of what Stalin did or worse all over the world. Also, even with the signing of the Magna Carte which should of limited the king's power still did not work. My point is you can find bad in the past and a lot of good people died on many sides in WW2. The difference is language barrier and political issues.
@123GlobalFailures You are an idiot the holocaust was genocide on an industrial basis it is was way beyond any atrocities committed by Cromwell or Edward I You are pro Nazi and anti British. What side would you have been on in WW2? Your support of the German football team is a good clue. COWARD NAZI RACIST. THE GOAT IS COMING
@123GlobalFailures What do you mean show my true colours? I am merely saying that the Germans in WW2 committed terrible atrocities, that is a fact and should not be subject to debate. You did not answer my question about which side you would have been on. Your silence condems you.
@123GlobalFailures It also got rid of Hitler and the Nazis, you described me as a cancer, well you are wrong I am the one who will carry on the work of Comrade Stalin THE GOAT OF FREEDOM
@goatface1000 "THE GOAT OF FREEDOM"- when you wrote this the first thing I thought, "the goat" shouldn't it be "the lamb". Ohhhh, what a bad spot to be in. You don't want to be consider a "goat" on judgement day.
@shrineheart87 I am the Great Goat the scourge of conservatives the world over. Sarah Palin and the tea party tremble at the sound of my name. The native American people have adopted me as their leader, one day soon I will become the American president.
@123GlobalFailures ...and a history of hysteria to study in cold blood! so the final solution Theire's more than 1 [(rrrrrrr)evolution] global constitution as an unconditional substitution. trying to keep the p*ACE!
(the crack in the mirror might be seen as well as(i)an error in fifty years from now)
@goatface1000 The Allies committed terrible atrocities during WW II is what you should be saying. Didn't the U.S. bomb civilian cites wholesale much more so than the Axis Powers did and did they not form an alliance with Stalin and the Communist Soviet Union despite a tract record in the 1930's of killing in large numbers their own citizens? The one sided story being told about WW II needs to come to an end. A very good case can be made for England starting the war as well.
@MrBEB123 As a confessed Nazi your opinions carry no weight, however WW2 started as a result of Germany attacking Poland, France & Britain had a pact with Poland therefore we went to war. I am sure that the allies did committ atrocities however compared to the horrors of Auschwitz etc nothing. Plus various nice acts like locking French villagers in barns and setting light to the building. As for bombing what about Coventry and the east end of London?
@goatface1000 I'm really laughing at your post. The Nazi Party has not been around for at least 65 years and I have never been to Germany so I don't think I am a confessed Nazi although if I were it would certainly be better than being a confessed Liberal. The facts are what carries weight so I am not too worried about my opinion not counting for anything. The causes you list for how WW II started are not correct, Germany just did not come from out of nowhere to start that conflict.
@MrBEB123 As your reason for being on Youtube in your own words is Promoting National Socialism your claim not to be a Nazi falls down. So who started WW2 ? I suppose you think it was the jews? And of course the holocaust never happened?
@MrBEB123 The only reason why the Germans did not bomb Britain to the extent the we bombed Germany is that they did not have the aircraft to do so. They started the blanket bombing we just finished the job. Your suggestion that England started the war is ludicrous. To summarise your are a racist Nazi who tells lies by re-writing history to support your revolting ideas. In WW2 you would have been locked up as a traitor.
@MrBEB123 Non answer from the Facist Hitler follower. He talks without respect af Comrade Stalin. He is a traitor to the memory of the Allies who fought in WW2. A fifth coloumnist in the heart of America. I bet he dresses up in SS uniform and plays the Horst Wessel song. I AM THE GOAT

"J'attendrai" (French for "I Will Wait"[1]) is a French popular song recorded by Rina Ketty in 1938. It is a translation of the Italian song "Tornerai" (Italian for "You Will Return"[2]) composed by Dino Olivieri[3] (music) and Nino Rastelli (lyrics) in 1933; the French lyrics were written by Louis Potérat.[4] The song was also recorded in German under the title "Komm zurück", and in Czech as "Věřím vám".
I heard today that during WW2 as the German battleship Bismark was sinking in the Atlantic, after a fierce and bloody battle with the Royal Navy, this song was played over the ship`s loudspeaker system. It makes the words of the song even more poignant.
Funny you should say that. The Bismark sank only after sinking the pathetic pride and joy of the British known as the HMS Hood. In the end, it isn't about who destroyed what ship 60 years ago. I'd like to see Britain recover from defeat and setbacks as gracefully and resiliently as the German people.
If the British had half as much dignity and determination to succeed as the Germans, they wouldn't be that footnote of the modern world that they are today.
@MaximumChank Strange for a German to try and occupy the moral high ground in relation to WW2. My comment was meant to be tongue in cheek, however we had the dignity and determination not to give in to the Germans when they were on the rampage. If we had not held on until the USA & Russia joined us the Germans would have won and the world would be a different place. Or do you think that that would have been a bad thing|?So we may be a footnote but at least we saved the world
Who said I was claiming the moral upper ground? I find it both funny and sad that modern Britain has gone from being a world power and "saviour of the world" to what it is today. More so that the British still go around with this mentality of superiority when it seems the country has given up on being anything more than one that lives in the glory of the past. Its been a long time since 1945, saviour. What have you accomplished? Less than a country that was defeated and destroyed.
@MaximumChank Besides being rubbish at wars and world cup finals you also are bad musicians don't play cricket have lager instead of beer and have no sense of irony or humour. We broke ourselves as a country to save the world from the horrors of Auschwitz . Why are you so anti British? Jelousy?
@goatface1000 anti-british?very british! - thats nonsense is the consense! the most of us we tried to learn english at's'cool to get the feeling to know and understand you folks better hehe than you probably will get along well without paris, texas. jelous of what??? besides the beatles the stones the pistols george best the i.r.a. mister bean and prince charles the pride of whales?
by the way seriously...without monty pythons germany would not be the same.thats what we claim in austria!cheers.
@remindbender I maintain that MxChnk wasbing anti British. I am glad you like the Stones but the IRA were a bunch of murderers and as for Prince Charles he is a total waste of space along with the rest of the monarchy. When it really counts we always manage to beat the Germans. As I have said you can't sing or play music and are not effective in a military setting. Stay warm this winter. THE GOAT
@goatface1000 come on goth you don't do no fairy sales.forget about this loser! from the kaiser to the führer they were not effective in a diplomacy setting hehe and why...because they were interested more in quantum mechanics and playing with big boys like rockets and not interested in fifi shitty atomic boobs like total destruction unrest of the paranoid world? by the way can't remember a british top hit during that era besides the dresden firestorm hehe but everybody remembers...
@remindbender Dresden was a mistake it had no strategic value, however there was terror bombing on the UK at the start of the war and what about the indiscriminate loss of life caused by the V1 and V2. If Germany had aircraft they would have bombed like we did but Germany was not geared up for a long war. Luckily for the freedom of the world we won.
@goatface1000 V1 V2 & also the Vic~trees...thats showbootin' a lesson in your self offends disceppelin . we are singing the immigrant song. hehe we try ;-)
@MaximumChank I wouldnt call myself British,am more ..ME.. and I try not to live in the past or try not to be much connected with anything much.I don't like what is happening in Britain and dislike this TRUE BRITISHNESS that hides Racist views.
I feel we need to move forward and clear the air and start with a fresh view.
Too many people habour on the past and bring up the same arguments and bitterness. Its not needed.
Future needs fresh outlooks and change and "British" needs change.
@rachelbarley If your comments are in response to my dispute with Max please note I am a lifelong socialist hate the BNP and the Conservative party and am in no way a jingoist except when watching the test cricket. I agree we should not live in the past however the horrors of the third reich should never be forgotten. Young Germans like Max need to confront their history and not make trite comments. My initial post was meant to be tongue in cheek he then jumped in
@goatface1000 i did and it was like : "ein frommer moslem in der moschee ist mir lieber als ein betrunkener atheist im freudenhaus". hehe...in no means is this the mainstream on the contingents i.m. confident in possible europe. or is it simply ONE the question: a museum of love or a theatre hehe "off" sex!?
The title of this song figures in one of the Claire Kenneth books. Forced some love, a charm and kindness into the horrors of a beautiful song, the war...
(And I am glad that I may hear it on a German language especially. Would be good on a Hungarian language to listen to...)
come back i'm waiting for you because for me you are all my fortune come back i'm waiting for you cries my heart all the time now you may fullfill my destiny may the way be long it will lead you and me into beatitude so i beg you today come back
hey sotzume, here are the lyrics in german: Komm zurück, Ich warte auf Dich Denn Du bist für mich all mein Glück Komm zurück, ruft mein Herz immerzu nun erfülle Du mein Geschick Ist der Weg auch weit führt er Dich und auch mich in die Seligkeit darum bitt' ich Dich heut Komm zurück
What were the Germans thinking at this time. Europes most advanced, civilised an cultured nation (and not by the NS reckoning) they, and we, could have had everything! A period of economic advancement and human growth and attainment! Damn you Hindenburg in your grave! (As Ludendorff demanded and was obviously right).
Considering when this was performed it truly saddens me that once again the Germans and British were about to embark on world war. Politicians are scumbags that lead the decent and noble. Wonderful song ... sorry for the rant boys !
Danke!

If you are dishing it to the Germans, you may as well dish it to the Spanish, who began it,and the Italians, who started with a Papal blessing in Abyssinia... They still have the photos , where all these goods Christians are holding up the heads of their victims.... It is only when you put all the christians together that you truly see the Russian...

People like goatface are disgrace to anyone because your the cancers that still inflict upon Germans worldwide. I wont even list what the English did worldwide. Listen to the song and stop bringing up the war for once. Let these people RIP for once.
123GlobalFailures 1 year ago
@123GlobalFailures I thought I had made it clear I am not anti German I merely stated that the horrors of the concentration camps and what the nazis did should never be forgotten. You seem to think that the English are guilty of crimes to numerous to list howver anything that they did is nothing compared to the holocaust. You mustbe like many Americans jelous of us?
goatface1000 1 year ago
@goatface1000
123GlobalFailures 1 year ago
@123GlobalFailures You are an idiot the holocaust was genocide on an industrial basis it is was way beyond any atrocities committed by Cromwell or Edward I You are pro Nazi and anti British. What side would you have been on in WW2? Your support of the German football team is a good clue. COWARD NAZI RACIST. THE GOAT IS COMING

remindbender 1 year ago
@goatface1000 The Allies committed terrible atrocities during WW II is what you should be saying. Didn't the U.S. bomb civilian cites wholesale much more so than the Axis Powers did and did they not form an alliance with Stalin and the Communist Soviet Union despite a tract record in the 1930's of killing in large numbers their own citizens? The one sided story being told about WW II needs to come to an end. A very good case can be made for England starting the war as well.
MrBEB123 1 year ago
@MrBEB123 As a confessed Nazi your opinions carry no weight, however WW2 started as a result of Germany attacking Poland, France & Britain had a pact with Poland therefore we went to war. I am sure that the allies did committ atrocities however compared to the horrors of Auschwitz etc nothing. Plus various nice acts like locking French villagers in barns and setting light to the building. As for bombing what about Coventry and the east end of London?
goatface1000 1 year ago
@goatface1000 I'm really laughing at your post. The Nazi Party has not been around for at least 65 years and I have never been to Germany so I don't think I am a confessed Nazi although if I were it would certainly be better than being a confessed Liberal. The facts are what carries weight so I am not too worried about my opinion not counting for anything. The causes you list for how WW II started are not correct, Germany just did not come from out of nowhere to start that conflict.
MrBEB123 1 year ago
@MrBEB123 As your reason for being on Youtube in your own words is Promoting National Socialism your claim not to be a Nazi falls down. So who started WW2 ? I suppose you think it was the jews? And of course the holocaust never happened?
You are very sad
goatface1000 1 year ago
@MrBEB123 The only reason why the Germans did not bomb Britain to the extent the we bombed Germany is that they did not have the aircraft to do so. They started the blanket bombing we just finished the job. Your suggestion that England started the war is ludicrous. To summarise your are a racist Nazi who tells lies by re-writing history to support your revolting ideas. In WW2 you would have been locked up as a traitor.
goatface1000 1 year ago

It makes the words of the song even more poignant.
jimbo1847 1 year ago 2
@jimbo1847 One more British victory over the master race! There are so many.
goatface1000 1 year ago
@goatface1000
MaximumChank 1 year ago
@MaximumChank Strange for a German to try and occupy the moral high ground in relation to WW2. My comment was meant to be tongue in cheek, however we had the dignity and determination not to give in to the Germans when they were on the rampage. If we had not held on until the USA & Russia joined us the Germans would have won and the world would be a different place. Or do you think that that would have been a bad thing|?So we may be a footnote but at least we saved the world
goatface1000 1 year ago
@goatface1000
MaximumChank 1 year ago
@MaximumChank Besides being rubbish at wars and world cup finals you also are bad musicians don't play cricket have lager instead of beer and have no sense of irony or humour. We broke ourselves as a country to save the world from the horrors of Auschwitz . Why are you so anti British? Jelousy?

@remindbender I maintain that MxChnk wasbing anti British. I am glad you like the Stones but the IRA were a bunch of murderers and as for Prince Charles he is a total waste of space along with the rest of the monarchy.
