  • flying is not for everyone.. even the ones that never get it, at least tried.... The wisdom is knowing you lack the "knack".. The most fun I had was getting my license.. Is still easier than driving a big truck IMHO....

  • He was out of focus a total sloppy! Sorry to say it but ...Should take a lot of aerobatic instruction simulator before flying a real plane ...Since flying the pattern takes every aspect of your flying skills...  I am glad no one got hurt!

  • Can these light airplanes fly the approach using the autopilot? DO they not perform well in rough weather. It would be nice to have an autoland feature on these light airplanes for emergency situations. Imagine if a pilot was ill and needed to land. I think such features would be useful

  • @210482fmj To fly an autoland the aircraft needs specific equipment. This 1. Costs in the base cost of the airplane 2. Costs in training as you need to have instructions on how to use the feature. Furthermore when you qualifiy as a Private Pilot (PPL) you are not rated (certified) to fly in bad weather conditions (IFR) or at night. You must have further training to be able to fly in these situations. Most aircraft are equiped with IFR instruments for bad weather and ILS approaches.

  • @contemporarymonk IT should really be introduced for the future as times will change. THere was a person flying once and he suddenly lost his eyesight poor person and had to be guided down. THere needs to be an emergency land feature.

  • @210482fmj I think the Cessna company actually designed a airplane parachute. If the aircraft lost control or was unable to fly, the pilot would pull a leaver and a parachute would deploy which would bring you down safely. This was not vrey popular. The avaiation rules are strict on medical checks, this is the measure used as standard to prevent pilot medical emergency inflight. But we all know that some things happen out of the blue.

  • instructor should have demonstrated one after the first student attempt. So many ways to make that lesson better for the student .... god awful IP

  • I don't think the instructor has any clue about how to teach landings. He seems to have one technique - where he says "hold it off".I wonder what he taught as far as choice of aim point (seemed awfully far down the ruwway). Use the runway nbrs as aimpoint. Power to idle slowly and smoothly ... Start a round out to level flight just as you cross threshold ... then slow, steady rise of nose for the flare as airspeed dissipates.

  • @UFOSPACE1999 stall horn - it goes off when your attitude is too high for your airspeed, warning you that you are going to stall, it also goes off on when you flare for landing.

  • its alright that you make mistakes not every student pilot is perfect at landings.

  • The IP needs to have a stick handy to give the student pilot a solid whack to the side of his head every time he botches up a landing.

  • You'll have a couple of worse landings after you get your license. It happens to all of us. AND it's better to have bad landings with an instructor to tell you why they were bad and how to make them better. Your landings were pretty good. enjoyed the video

  • I have to say this isn't really all that bad for a student pilot. Sure, it could be better. Then again, if you look deep enough every landing has something that could be improved upon. For a student pilot I'd say this more or less normal.

  • @SMJeOma Too low on turn to final and final, and overcontrolling the hell out of the airplane. Nice flare, tho.

  • I learnt at Archerfield in Brisbane off the grass strips in C172 with the RQAC for my PPL, these approaches dont seem bad at all, you should be proud, with time and training, it will all come naturally,,,

  • As a studeent ur supose to screw up on a couple of landings. One guy at my school screwed up TAXIING and broke the plane. He decided to go off the taxiway to get a bigger turn radius, hit a ditch, the front dipped down, and he totalled the propeller on the cessna 172 and most likely tottaled the engine to :P

  • Looks like a Superior Flight School student to me.. Wings flapping everywhere.. Surprised they didn't have a 15 minute video with the plane sitting at the end of the runway in the taxiway.. Pretty much how Superior trains - Especially at 47A.. They charge WAY too much to be sitting on the end of a runway for 20 minutes (No kidding I have clocked them many times)... Meanwhile the Hobbs is running..

  • I'm a student pilot also. I have about 25 hours and I'm working on my cc and landings. These look pretty good to me! I think you are doing great, keep up the good work! I'm up here in WV in the mountains so we are use to slipping and sliding into these runways! Good job!

  • Not that bad man. When I started my problem was flat landings because I was used to alot of glider flying (not alot of room behind you in a Grob 103 or anything modern.) With cadets in canada we have a very accelerated program. I went from 0 hours to solo in 3 days (with 3.2 hrs dual). Brampton airport was where I learned, just a bit of a smaller runway than yours xD 3000ftX30ft (ish). But in all honesty, your landings seemed pretty smooth and your approaches relatively stable.  Just XW control!

  • These look like decent landings, especially for a low time student. I learned to land on a short grass/gravel farm strip with tall trees on each end and I think these landings don't look bad at all. I always try to keep the numbers on one spot on the windshield and hold it there until flare. Looks like you are doing somewhat the same. Maybe the intructor was being too picky. The "go around" didn't look necessary but they are good to practice every now and then. Precision comes with practice.

  • stick with it, your landings will come around (they weren't that bad anyways). Try and keep the runway centerline parallel with your legs using rudder, and maintain drift with the ailerons. Other than that, just make smaller power adjustments, give it a second to take effect, and then adjust again if necessary. You are doing great, keep it up!

  • ok well Id like to offer my advice ive been flying for 20 years and have around 800 hours no one can be sure by watching a video but your not doing as bad as you think and I think the approach where you said you were to high well that was a way better approach than the rest learn to slip ! it looks like you are turning final about a mile out thats bad you need to turn base at like a 1.4th mile you should be close enough and high enough that you dont need to add power to get there

  • The hardest thing to wrap my head around so far about flying is power = altitude pitch = speed. Once I could grasp that though everything went much smoother.

  • huh, THAT was not a bad landing....I had a student in the US, he went on a 3 leg x-country. taking off from 2, he left the flap motor switch on... got over halfway home on leg 3, cockpit filled with smoke, TURNED ROUND (!?!), reached 2 again, had a choice of 3 large paved runways, and landed in the middle of them in a ploughed field!!! ...nice...yep, those were the days :-))

  • Some landings there arn't too bad, ive got 15 hours logged, i'd say if anything, go a bit easier on the control colum and try not to increase power unless you are going really slow, adjust attitude, keep the runway 1/3 up your windscreen. That would be my advice. However, something you do much better than i do is keeping the aircraft on the centreline on landing, i'm terrible at that, i always end up drifting off to the right or left. Stall warnings signify good landings unless your a bit high.

  • @Jacob121416 At 15 hours you should be receiving advice not giving wrong advice. Power for altitude, pitch for speed, you should know this. Spend some more time practicing slow flight. A good landing starts with a good approach.

    @saboy1111 Keep up the good work, landings are the hardest basic skill to learn in flying and do well. i have 100+ hours (still a new pilot) and practice takeoffs and landings for at least one session a month and I log about 4 hours a week. Happy flying!

  • @jefretg yeah i know power is for altitude and pitch is speed, for landings and approaches climbouts and takeoffs. And yeah i know i've only got 15 but yeah just saying the way i'd do it. how many hours do you have man?

  • Wasn't to bad, Keep your head up and don't let anybody get you down. I'm taking lessons now, and I have 11 hours in my log book so far. Keep it up man! THE SKY IS THE LIMIT!

  • The secret to getting perfect landings? Start with a solid approach. The landing is too easy once you have your approach set up way back and you can just coast it in.

  • Ahh I got my solo this weekend..and I dont know where to mount my camera...I was going to use my iPhone 4 because it has better quality than my actual handycam.. lol.. Anyone got any ideas? Atm getting my dad to make me a headset holder thing for the iPhone, hope it works.
