Just so folk know, unlike the guy mocking the other guy in this video, when Portal was free when they released Steam for the Mac, the link didn't actually work, you had to find it somewhere else because they screwed it up from within Steam itself. They fixed it later, but initially it was the wrong link and didn't actually start the download. It was the same for the PC version too, I know because I did it too.
And you expect everything to work right as soon as you get it. Right MAC user? That's why you don't use MAC. MAC barely runs any games right after they just get released. You need to either upgrade to either Windows XP or Linux (Ubuntu maybe). Other than that, stop using MAC for the love of Kira

There's nothing wrong with Macs. If you play games then I can understand why you wouldn't want one, but for everything but gaming they're generally less hassle to use than Windows, at least in my opinion. I only ever boot my PC to play games or run Publisher for files clients send, which is annoying.

@jedizero "Offline Mode" only works for 30 days or so, then you need to log on again to refresh your tickets, also not every game allows this. Many newer Ubisoft games for example require an always on connection even in single player, otherwise you can't play (unless you use a "work-around"). PC gaming is kind of a mess right now, and all these stupidly restrictive DRM schemes are making it worse for legitimate players. Steam is anything but perfect, but it's the best we have right now.
@TalesOfWar Yeah, not every game does, but Steam alerts you to this DRM before you buy it, saying there is third party DRM in it.
And yeah, DRM does suck, and no, Steam isn't perfect, but goddammit, I like it. It balances the fact that you need to use their service with what they give.
The overlay allows you to chat in 90% of the games, even allowing you to use it on games not from steam.

@jedizero I use Steam myself, I have 70+ games on it. They've done a good balancing act between the DRM and extra functionality you get, but some games still take the P155 lol. I can't stand it when games use Games for Windows Live for example AND Steam, or as is the case with GTA 4, those two AND the stupid Rockstar Social Club thing. I've had that thing flake out numerous times leaving me unable to play my legally bought games. It's annoying as hell.

I found a lots of bugs with Steam and it's not that good, but it's the only client that contains all games (almost), so thats why i'm using it and i'm happy that's steam is there, but there is still a lot of stuff that valve could have done to improve it.

People, please don't buy a mac, they make their software worse by every edition (hint, iMovie) and if you want as much freedom as with a PC then you will, in the end, have to use the unix functions of the mac. So why not just use a windows or a linux to begin with, then you won't need all those workarounds.

-When i have 30 min to play i don't want to be 5 min of this update time.
-It took me 8 hours to install shogun 2. Now its patched and it doesnt work anymore.
- you can't play witouth internet. Ok i know, why would somebody want to play offline, it seems just crazy, because there is always wifi around.

@ghostking0 A: If it didn't work after the patch, it probably wouldn't have worked WITHOUT the patch.
B: You can play without the internet. Its called Offline Mode.
C: The pop up is only to alert you to new releases, and sales. Other wise it leaves you alone, and even then, you can turn them off.

@jedizero "Offline Mode" only works for 30 days or so, then you need to log on again to refresh your tickets, also not every game allows this. Many newer Ubisoft games for example require an always on connection even in single player, otherwise you can't play (unless you use a "work-around"). PC gaming is kind of a mess right now, and all these stupidly restrictive DRM schemes are making it worse for legitimate players. Steam is anything but perfect, but it's the best we have right now.

@TalesOfWar Yeah, not every game does, but Steam alerts you to this DRM before you buy it, saying there is third party DRM in it.
And yeah, DRM does suck, and no, Steam isn't perfect, but goddammit, I like it. It balances the fact that you need to use their service with what they give.
The overlay allows you to chat in 90% of the games, even allowing you to use it on games not from steam.
they allow you to take screenshots without needing to do that prntscrn crap, or an outside program.

@jedizero I use Steam myself, I have 70+ games on it. They've done a good balancing act between the DRM and extra functionality you get, but some games still take the P155 lol. I can't stand it when games use Games for Windows Live for example AND Steam, or as is the case with GTA 4, those two AND the stupid Rockstar Social Club thing. I've had that thing flake out numerous times leaving me unable to play my legally bought games. It's annoying as hell.

I found a lots of bugs with Steam and it's not that good, but it's the only client that contains all games (almost), so thats why i'm using it and i'm happy that's steam is there, but there is still a lot of stuff that valve could have done to improve it.

@suffifo2 It's not like it's a secret that Apple target the less intellectual users, so it's no completely off to then assume that the average user is more stupid. I mean, their whole selling point is to make it extremely easy to use even at the expense of functionality. Any smart person that will use a computer more than once every week will instead of wasting time with constant workarounds, learn the system and use it to it's fullest potential.

@suffifo2 No I'm not replying this because I want you to respond, but rather that people should keep away from mac. It's a scam, the whole concept of it, and I'd want people to know that.
People, please don't buy a mac, they make their software worse by every edition (hint, iMovie) and if you want as much freedom as with a PC then you will, in the end, have to use the unix functions of the mac. So why not just use a windows or a linux to begin with, then you won't need all those workarounds.

@DaScatman To be fair to the guy Steam is a very Windows centric view when it comes to the way it works, most long term Mac users will need time to adjust to that, just like long term Windows users will initially be lost when they first use a Mac. Just a good old case of "this is new to me, I need to figure it out".

However it is also DRM. if you have not noticed programs distributed though steam have to authenticate with steam (requireing steam to be running and you logged in with a user name and password) in order to run, That in effect is form of DRM.
