I'm sorry, but there was ever no such thing as dance floor filler before this song made wax, then this would definitely be the start of it. As much as I wanted Kim Wilde to rise above her debut album I never got the impression that she ever did. You clearly feel differently and power to you... As for the output of any American band in the 80s. If you are going to over look all the black music that Kim was imitating ( Prince, SOS Band, Cherelle, The Time, etc) then you've just lost credibility

@L0un9ePunk Edge? It's rare in that it's one of her most staccato tracks with little layering and not much in the way of melodic twists and turns. The debut album showed it up with others songs, but everything from 1982 onwards to the end of the 80s (and much past) easily showed up the overrated Brats in the States as I not so lovingly refer to it as. Dancefloor filler? That & Kim never go together. The intro to Kids sounds entirely non-individual and the song lacks excitement and gr8 chorus.

Top song-lovely to hear sprintbass down there calling it better than 'Kids' but why is her overrated debut the yardstick that every other song is judged by-but I tell you this, world, if it is, then 'Kids' comes up badly wanting. In fact, apart from 'Boys'-everything the Queen of Music did throughtout the 80s-and much beyond-is oceans better than it, and far more deeper with more levels. 'Kids' is really quite ordinary with a lacklustre chorus-anthem my arse-if anyone else had done it, nada!

I have to disagree. Like Madonna & all the other best artists of all-time (imo) Kim changed with the times. I'm with you on this 100%. She lost me here also. For Kim, Teases & Dares marks the end of one era. Another Step marks the beginning of a new one. At that point, Kim lost a lot of her Rock & New Wave fans, and she gained the fans of generic pop and the old Disco crowd. I've heard this song was huge in the dance clubs. Though Kim's New Wave, Synth and Rock is my FAVOURITE Kim era. I ADORE "Say You Really Want Me". I guess I love it so much as I remember when this was premiered on OZ MTV in 1987 and I recorded the video. I am also into mid 80s dance/pop so this is also fabulous. I guess people have all sides to express, KIm was becoming more of a woman here, so this sound was where she was at at the time. After this, there were a few edgy tracks but it went down quite abit. Just like the 80s ended up doing!
