i dont understand the blonde woman she talks of inequality between men and women in her industry which i dont necessarily disagree with but then she goes but i wouldnt change it for the world..
Patricia Clarkson ran the fuck out when she simultaneously acknowledged how egregiously sexist, racist and agist the film industry is while saying how much she loves it and "would not change it". There you have it! A great example of how complicity works to maintain structures of sexism and racism. Especially if you reside within those social categories. UGH what bullshit! I'm so unimpressed with her now.
@macphallic I don't think she meant it at all the way you implied. She acknowledged its faults, but obviously she loves to act and will continue to do the work that she does. I think you will be hard-pressed to find someone who absolutely loves every facet of their jobs. There's always some fault or some negative quality to find, but oftentimes you work around it because A) you have to support yourself or B) you love what you do anyway. Regardless, I love ALL of these women!
@ayzax14 I Agree. As such an amazing actress Mrs. Clarkson is, there is no way she alone can change it so I really do think she meant she wouldnt change the fact the she acts and has to act because thats what she is, and actress.
Then again, who's their target audience? I probably know 6 male movie buffs for ever 1 female movie buff. There are movies that specifically target the african american audience, but those are the minority of films just as african americans are a minority. I hate how people see sexism and racism everywhere just because they're too blind to see the simply supply and demand.
I'm happy this was brought up because too many times do people want to shy away from the truth. I know it gets repeated time and time again but its true. We need more people behind the camera to get things going.
has anyone noticed with the type of questions that they are asked as well in this interview. The men talk about whether acting is an art form and the relationship b/w an actor and a director... they talk about fake orgasming and weight........ I agree the industry is still very flawed. It's a shame
The actors i believe said something interesting about books. Directors are interpretating those books, and until writers start writing about women who actually posses qualities, and not only those that are degrading or sexist toward women, and until women start to demand better representation of what they choose to act in, we can expect nothing less until they do.
Compare the roundtable for actors and the roundtable for actresses--what are the topics of conversation? The men talk about conflict with the director, taking control of process, philosophical issues. The women? They get asked about losing weight and sex. No one was interested in engaging these women in real conversation, just the same old BS.
Totally agree. In the first video of the actors roundtable, they were all engaged in a fascinating debate about acting and art. For the actress' roundtable, we see them all going kumbaya about orgasm. Wtf?
@kwissin You seem to forget that it was the women themselves who brought sex and losing weight up. In the first part they were asked what is the most difficult thing to film, "orgasm", their answer. Same thing with the other issues, the questions where not at all biased, these women (or some of them) steered their answers there.
I agree you hardly ever see a movie that has a woman lead who isn't trying to
A Get pregnant
b.Find love
c. Trying to get married
d.Getting naked for no reason
that's one reason why I liked Kill Bill so much. Tarantino made her exactly what she as suppose to be and didn't try to sexualize the character or make her find love. All she wanted to do was kick ass and find her baby. We need more movies with strong women that are good. Not just romantic comedies.
@brybry19871987 Yes but we still need more lol. I'm not saying romantic comedies are bad but there is so much more to being a woman than just finding love, and babies.
@brybry19871987 Well I'm not expecting anything. I would like to see more films about women that explore more than just the same stuff we see all the time. Like I said Quentin did well with Kill Bill other directors need to take a lesson when trying to make an action movie with a female lead.
@olexia07 agreeing for the most part with the sentiment of your statement, I must point out that Uma Thurman in a skintight leather bodysuit is quite sexy to many people. Not that it's a bad thing. What's wrong with sexy folks kicking ass?
women are really good at giving Head. Oh, and they are awesome sperm receptacles. Other than that, they have little to offer. It's actually quite funny (from a historical perspective) how irrelevant they are. Althugh, I have to say...they make fine babies
women always have to be sexy. but men don't have to be. they just are. women have to get nude, so off alot of skin, and pretend to have sex...just to be taken "seriously" its aweful! i wish more women would stand up and say no. they should be more character driven than plainly it being all about sex. it's a trap for women.
Yes, I know it's still largely a world run by white males. My point is that Clarkson said she's happy with that (she "loves" that) and that she wouldn't change it. A bit silly, no?
All true, though I remember the actresses I've loved over the years more readily than I do the men. Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robin Wright, Meryl Streep...
I think it's changing , slowly but surely. Keep doing brilliant work, ladies.
