  • Yet to hear the story of why the Strat sports a Tele neck.

  • out of surrounding chaos ,,comes order,,one of the greatest blues solos of all time,,,only jimi could play it like this !!!!

  • I wish they proffesionally recorded this concert!!

  • The Sky Is Crying...

  • fuk me man the dogs bollox

  • @annabatarowicz What ??? you want a dog to fuk you??? It figures an illiterate fucking whore like you. A monkey minded British wanna be whore. If your British, no wonder England has become a shit hole. FUCK YOU NAZI BITCH.

  • Peace n Love Jimi!

    PEACE & LOVE

  • A white motherfucker says here: this dude can play!

  • Man! I had a pair of pants just like the shirtless roadie.

  • it's a pity that the bass player is so bad. All the wrong notes one the bass make nonsense Jimi's amazing playing.

  • In this video, you get to really hear Jimi's wonderful sense of creative rythem and chord structure. Buddy Miles' singing allows Jimi the freedom to show this strength that you normally don't notice because of his singing, soloing, etc. Notice how SUPER-DEVELOPED his ear is in the call and response interplay with Buddy. His responses are as near to perfect pitch and phrasing as you get. This video is VERY SPECIAL in that you get to listen to Jimi play lead AS WELL AS amazing, amazing, rhythem!

  • This is the first time I have ever responded on a video, and certainly the time has come. I am a musician, primarily a bass player with drums and guitar following 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Jimi is the purest guitar player I have EVER heard! I have played with some GREAT guitarist in my 33 years of playing, and have watched GREAT one's from the audience. Here is why Jimi is sooooo powerful...FEEL, UNBOUND SENSE OF TIME, AND DEEP TRUTH OF EXPRESSION. Jimi's passion opened the door to his ability.

  • This was far from Hendrix's best performance but interesting non the less......look at all the dirty hippies. Whats really bizaar is all the people on the stage and the back of the stage, running around the stage.

  • I have a friend that was there although I don't know which day it was...

He told me that Jimi went through three to five percussionists... and that they were actually asking for drummers from the audience...anyone else that was there please comment

  • man that solo rocks ;D and even his rhythm section is fucking great

  • 1969... The year Hotel California ran out of wine

  • 2 speakers per cab! monster stuff really

  • Seriously, this is perhaps the best guitar solo I have ever heard . Period bar none.

  • ive seen this in a normal state,,,and in a drunk state,,and in a spliff state,,,,my preference is ,a few cans of spesh, and a spliff !!!,,wow !!!wish so much that i was there !!!!,

  • I believe this is not a solo but a sound coming from an unknown universe that Jimi is probably from...I'm sure if someone lands on Neptune or crosses the saturn rings, he would hear such sounds...This is definitely not from earth...This man is a god !!!! Period ... I LOVE YOU JIMI

  • He's having a tantrum!

  • jimi hendrix playing the sky is crying.....un-fucking-believable!!!!!!!!

  • i could listen to jimi doin this all damn day!

  • SOUNDS LIKE SWEET SIXTEEN 5.28M

  • CAN I BUY THIS SIMPLY AWESOME HENDRIX

  • I was there.

It was the West Coast Woodstock.

It was a 2 oz primo hash day

  • WE GOTTA LIVE TOGETHER!!!

Amazing to watch Jimi and Buddy perform together, bliss the camera people for setting this up.

Any one know what happened to the previous 1hr and 40 leading up to this jam?

  • Those stage hands must have been goin crazy

  • remember the giant poster of this show?

  • this is, without a doubt, the sickest video ive ever seen!..

  • Comment removed

  • Lol one thing is sure, the concerts of today have fucking changed.

  • stoned dog at 9:30

  • Wonderful footage!

  • Awesome... it really is!

  • FUUUUUUUUCKKKK, my biggest wish is to be one of the audience there, i wouldn't even get high, you really wouldn't need to with this going on, i'd be the only sober one there. If i was there, the biggest thing on my mind would be whether to close my eyes and let the music put me into a trance, or to keep my eyes open and watch Hendrix playing guitar in his own little world.

  • @MadM4X939 I would. get as close to jimi's headspace as possible. get a better idea of where he's coming from and what he's trying to communicate. keep in mind that after using psychedelics, weed becomes much more transcendental, spiritual, beautiful and psychedelic in it's own right

  • @MadM4X939 i heard him play .. he was so high ... there was no name for the experience ;)

  • @MadM4X939 you DONT need to get high! its good enough on its own!!

..but, if you DID get high.. pssh.. PLUS this? you'd forget your own name. you would never be the same. it would open your mind to a whole new universe.

it's cool that its good sober too though.

  • this is the highest moment on youtube

  • Telecaster neck?

  • @AnniesEggs Yup!

  • Awesome video!! I always wonder what it may have been like to have seen possibly the best EVER do it live............This gives me a taste!!!

    Thanks for posting!!!!

  • Sexy hippy chick at 8:24!! Kinda makes me wonder if anyone of these people ever saw this footage. It would be a trip to see yourself on a youtube video 43 years later when this was dug up.

  • oh my god that was the cutest dog ever.

  • I'm pretty certain Jimi's still alive on another planet somewhere's, he's too important to the universe.

  • What great video!

  • Oh damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • they set the stage on fire!!!

  • Buddy Miles Express and Jimi just took over. He thought he owed it to the audience because of his own disasterous set. An amazing document.

  • fuck it i'm bringing it back

  • Trust me them times WERE the fucking buisness....

  • Jimi is playing out of his MIND!

  • Amazing performance.... !!!

I get a kick out of those Fender Dual Showman Tube amps and huge Fender/JBL cabinets with 15" speakers.... SWEEEEET...!

  • who's playing bass?

  • youtube is a time machine

  • Good job Hendrix had his eyes shut getting into it, otherwise those arseholes trying to climb up may have distracted him. What c..ts for spoiling it for us.!

  • perfection

  • This is amazingly awesome!! Is there any footage of zeppelin playing at this festival? WOuld be so cool to see that. I wonder what Jimi watched zeppelin at all and wonder what he thought of them

  • Love that Fender valve sound!!! Better than Marshalls I think!

  • @Redcoat66 Looks like Fender, i'm pretty sure it's Sunn though. Best amps ever.

  • cheers this is on my screensaver what a performance

  • Look at the two dancing on the scaffold tower to the right... they be on more than just the musac !!

  • 1) Fuckin blown away

    2) Telecaster top and stratocaster body??? Where the fuck did he get that¿?¿?

  • God bless the Hippies!!

  • Buddy Miles is a FUCKIN GOOD singer

  • RIP man, I'll definately be at you next show

  • Amazing that Hendrix is apparently using Fender Amps instead of Marshalls...

  • 02:06 to 02:33, is Noel Redding back there? :P

I don't know if someone could play and express so many feelings like Jimi... and much more in this video... it's amazing!

  • who is the bass player

  • @blackdude57 According to the boot I have it is Brad Campbell. Don't know anything about him.

  • @jgcaesar4 CHICAGO MAYBE OR A MEMBER OF THE OTHER BANDS JIMI JAMMED WITH THEY MENTIONED A FEW

  • I still see Buddy Miles on drum the fat black guy on drims is buddy miles

  • @98fxstc1 You are quite the comic. By the way, I love Jeff Beck's playing, but your commentary is silly. I don't think he was copying Jeff Beck here. Aural theory. Wow! Impressive. You must have studied Latin too. I do like the so very adult approach of accusing someone who disagrees with you of being a teneager. You must be a grown up, albeit an insecure one. Good luck in your pursuit of theoretical knowledge. Hope you find some spirit while you're at it. Best wishes.

  • @jgcaesar4 hahaha jef back when Hendrix was doing this he was at the end of his carreer and very angry at some people so what he is doing here is giving all he had inside so they know for sure he is and will always be number one playing with buddy miles was not so heavy as when mitch mitchel was around if you look good you will see noel redding walking behind the speakers . he left to england the same day never to play with hendrix again

  • @blackdude57 As you wrote, "so what he is doing here is giving all he had inside." That is why I start every morning with this vid. It's my favorite musician of all time giving it all he had. It's about soul and spirit. Take care my friend.

  • @jgcaesar4 ever watched him play voodoo chile at berkely?? intense too check the twoo girls in the front row they musta come like 10 times

  • @blackdude57 Yes. I even had the VHS tape until someone stole it from me. I now have the updated DVD. Perfect example of him when he was in total control - just flowing with the music.

  • @98fxstc1 Open your ears. Not quite.

  • Jimi Hendrix best guitarist ever

  • I bet Marshall would pay whatever to get this removed. One of the better solos I've seen from Hendrix and it's on a Fender bass amp. :-)

  • @weezrock hahaha I bet there is a court case right now..... haha

  • How to play a solo !

  • 8:29 the thake some drugs :) :)

  • This is just noise :/

  • @andresoacuna Just the kind of noise I like. Cheers.

  • @jgcaesar4 asshole

  • @catisign Have a peaceful day.

  • From Guitar Player Master Series Fall 2003:

"One time, Hendrix's roadies brought in a white Strat that Jimi had thrown off stage", says Neal Moser, a luthier (and designer of B.C.Rich's Rich Bich guitar) who was employed by West Organ & Amp Repair in Hollywood California." The neck was broken, and they wanted a replacement. Of course, Fender didn't have any at the time, but they did have some Tele necks. We got one, and I modified the butt to fit the Strat body."

  • @dkukkonen Thank you for the info.

  • Whats not to love about that...

  • GREAT TIME....!

  • I think its just the angle, but it does look like a Tele neck. & yes a Tele neck can be used on a strat body. I have many live vids of Jimi & have never seen him use a strat with a tele neck.

  • Duane Allman behind the Amps.

  • This is the kind of Hendrix that people who say STUPID things like "Hendrix was ok but ...(fill in the blank).... is technically better. I feel sorry for those people, because this is coming straight from his soul and if you are open to it, deposited directly into yours. Assuming all that boring techno-shredding hasn't chased it away. Even though Buddy would get on my nerves by singing over Jimi's Amazing leads, his call and response in this video is kick-ass.

  • Alright is it just me or does that strat have a tele head

  • @dayank30 It is a strat with a tele neck.

  • @jgcaesar4

Its just the headstock. You can't fit a telecaster neck onto a Fender Strat body.

  • @capetown99 Thanks for the correction. Cheers.

  • Buddy does his best James Brown at 4:11, thanks for posting

  • Everything is nice to hear and watch in this video. Even the guys trying to climb up on stage, failing miserably, and the pimp-looking guy at 08:36 :)

And I want to express what I feel about people trying to sort stars and sidemen, etc: it's a band playing here. I love Buddy, even when he did a little too much vocalizing, because he did exactly what Jimi did, that is to say giving all he had on stage.

  • @bobyoung53 Yeppers Jimi played through many amps including Marshalls but most work was done with Fenders crank up a DS with a octavia and fuzz face and there ya go!

  • I was at this concert when I was 14!!! Hendrix played for a long time! I remember people were smoking this funny smelling stuff.

  • Those two guys who ran out there on stage remind me of a couple ballboys at a tennis match. Except they ran out to catch a hippie instead.

  • Buddy Miles is bad ass... and a tele neck strat.. this is the shxt

  • Ray Bradbury had a vision, a project : "I sing the body electric" ....well, Hendrix realised this...le plus grand électricien de tout les temps. Pure genious.

  • @mangacharlus Beautiful comment. C'est vrai.

  • fuck it i'm making a time machine

  • *****AUTHOR'S NOTE: My 2-camera version of Hendrix at Newport is finally up!!! Everybody PLEASE head over and check it out*****

  • @avs002 Thank you so much.

  • like the amp setup

  • hendrix is sending a message to everyone past, present and future that ever dared coin themselves or been coined as the greatest...and that message to them is: know your role...cos God said so :)

  • Man, this blows doors over Rainbow Bridge for me, as the best outdoor Jimi performance.

  • why i have to live in this shitty century of commercialized crap called "music" :(

  • @Eric1HBK2

I share your pain. But there's a way out.

Listen to older music. And don;t buy any new music. In fact, don't buy any music at all. If you hear something that you like, then go pirate it off some place like TPB.

And that way, you'll be doing your part to smash the corporate music industry that has done this to all of us.

  • @Tessmage this is exactly what im doing

  • Jimi is so badass

  • A "Star" truly shines its' brightest when in solitude...I wish Jimi were solo like this even more often...

  • Damn! That may be the best blues guitar I've every heard. It actually scared me at first!

  • Wow. Actual filmed evidence of the human race evolving!

  • @GSTcheque So True!!!!

  • if this is red house, where can I find the live album?!

  • @kermicheo I think it's either the The Things I Used to Do, or a transition from it to this solo. At least that is how it's listed on the DVD. The Sky is Crying follows. Their is a 3 CD set of Hendirx/Newport Pop Festival with a version of Red House on the first disc.

  • If you want to hear the 3 previous minutes before the beginning of this video, please check youtube.com/watch?v=6hRemSeTtrI

Fantastic performance indeed ! Too bad the beginning wasn' filmed...or was it ? anybody knows ?

  • lol check out the guy on acid with his arms on the amps XD

  • JIMI HENDRIX!!!! EVERYONE

  • Buddy Miles sucks behind hendrix no matter what you say he sucks the only combination that wprked for jimi was mitch mitchell and thats it

  • @blackdude57 buddy miles stepped up to the plate and helped jimi when he owed an album to a record company (LIVE AT FILMORE EAST), mitch mitchel went back to england until jimi's dept was paid. I agree buddy miles is more of a down to earth drummer where as mitch was creative and more skilled. BUDDY WAS VERY CREATIVE AND HELPED JIMI WITH VOCALS AND EVERYTHING ELSE JIMI NEEDED HIM FOR.

    REST IN PEACE BUDDY MILES!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @tyrin85 it was nor really only that the black panters wer putting pressure on jimi cuz he was playing with the white guys there is a lot more to the story of buddy miles playing with jimi he was kidnapped by black mafia cuz as a black man he was not paying rspect to the clan and was hanging out with those (white guys) so jimi took it easy for a moment and came back with an all niggers band gypsy suns and rainbow including the only white nigger in the band mitchmitchel haha and jerry velez

  • @blackdude57 wrong wrong wrong

  • @Zepster77 have you ever heard jimi hendrix drum ?? if you have you would not be talking like that

  • @blackdude57 Mitch Mitchell....and Billy Cox

  • haha, i should be doing my homework but it can wait :P

  • jimi what are you doing on this world

  • Some guy's smoking a big hit of something @ 8:36

  • Whos the bassist?

  • Wow...K...there were many theories why BOG broke up, one of them being MJ sabotaging the band to reform the experience and i do agree w/you somewhat, i'm sure that made of played a part in it self, but you might want to listen to the soundboard tapes of all four shows and pick up the documentary of the BOG. Watch the black and footage. I just don't think it was working between him and Buddy. Again, MY OPINION...being bogus wouldn't be a fair assessment. Again, MY OPINION!

  • weird that's a olympic white strat but with telecaster neck

  • billy was an awesome power house drummer and vocalist, but at times, he was over the top, which jimi despise at times(stealing his thunder)...which IMHO was why band of gypys never lasted that long...there can only be one star in the band

  • @stickshift237 your opinion is unbelievably bogus, Jimi wanted to even step back and hire a vocalist at the end of 1970... The BOG break was all michael jeffery, that sellout

  • The atmosphere jimi created around 1:51 happens probably once in a hundred centuries... What a magical moment... i believe there is the music before jimi and the one after jimi. He is like the center of the evolution of rock n roll, soul, space music , rock, early heavy metal or whatever you call it....Just take the time to listen each one of his songs, and see his level of creativity, versatility , sense of humor, genuineness, poetry , oh my god...There is always something new to learn from him

  • There will never be another who can handle the electric guitar like Jimi Hendrix did....

    NOONE!!

  • Props to Buddy Miles! He was smokin' on this one.

  • @dextermcgrubbin where?

  • I was at this performance, actually right near where the camera was.. It was hot as hell. I attended 2 of the 3 days of the festival. This was on Sunday afternoon. Some of the other memorable performances over the weekend were Jethro Tull, Chambers Brothers, Creedence, Booker T, Steppenwolf, Johnny Winter, and more.

  • @davidmg50 OMG i wish i was there with you. Wished i was there to see my hero play.

  • The Amp logos appeared to be Fender, but its grainy. I checked another website on Hendrix gear. People who say they were there, says the Amps are Fender Showman 3 channel solid state, different cabs. "They" say Jimi used the same set up in following shows in SF and Sacramento. Generally I think you need tube amps to sound as good as Jimi. Jimi had no problem

  • man this sounds like shit. not JImmi.. the camera shit dood I cant stand it

  • @joelkeaton yea ur right. it's not 'Jimmi'

  • Does anyone know what type of amp he's using?

  • God Bless Jimi....R.I.P

  • and who said jimi hendrix aint the best mutherfucking guitar player to ever step foot on this earth ? this dude is god

  • thank for posting so much - i was there, only .16 yrs old .. what amazing concerts we witnessed - rhsc nyc

  • Great video thanks for posting! That's Buddy Miles on drums/ voc. Don't recognize the bass player.

  • Who's on drums and bass?

  • Wait Jimi plays the BLUES :O WHAT!??

  • @fredsassy5 you didn't know that?

  • @bradlaypamp i thaught he played only the rock stuff

  • Pffft,,I've never met anyone who knew Hendrix,,,but i know a guy who went to the isle of white,,and he said that he was going back to his tent as Hendrix played ,machine gun....what a wally,!!!
