Such smugness on the three questioners who seem to be in the pocket of the Barney Franks and other leeches. Would there be more of them, and fewer witnesses, in the room, their tone would be subtly violent and threatening, and less conciliatory.
Corporations are a creation of the state. As for the rest of your claim, that's equivocation. Police state is understood as repressive government controls over the people, not a government that run very little except the police.
@Scoforever I would add: Corporations are a legal entity that represent groups of people who are working to build a business. There is nothing untoward about that.
@LegendaryFrost Police state is when BIG government administers the police force. When a correct, moderate government does it the police do what is in their actual powers to do and NOT beyond, thus your statement is just senselessly trying to smear libertarianism.
the problem i had w/ atlas shrugged was rand's view of the american business man as the shining beacon of morality. i agree with her view of government and it's total ineffectiveness to manage a society but to say that profit motivated individuals, who are motivated by NOTHING but profit are the pinnacle of human morality, is slightly flawed, no?
I think what she meant was profit through achievement, not force, was the pinnacle of human morality. She saw profit as a good end only if the means to it were just and reasonable. Many of the businessmen in the book weren't capable of creating their own wealth so they sought to steal the wealth of others. They were "profit-chasers" but weren't moral because their money was stolen.
@AisAbsolute Just revealing what is at the heart of their agenda. The "good old days" where people were screened and judged as to whether they are fit to live or not.
It is an instinctual abhorence to have someone else speak for me, a free man. Those who somehow think government knows better likely has their hands in the cookie jar, or have been brainwashed.
The Problem with Free enterprise and capitalism is that it can't work in a very large sustain population without some form of common sense regulations to prevent large corporations and monopolies from exploiting people. The morgae meltdown and the credit crunch is the end result of 30 years of throwing out regulations

Or perhaps it was the result of the government and their "too big to fail" rules, guaranteeing large investment houses automatic bailouts should they get in hot water, thereby removing the personal risk which normally prevents investors from making those sort of investments in a free market system. They reap any reward, and Joe Taxpayer reaps any loss, thanks for government rules. Y'know, whichever.

@WorldAccording2ME Please give an example of a monopoly that has achieved monopoly status without government intervention. Please explain how the people who regulate are different from other people, other than a common inclination toward deviant sexual practices.
Christian posting here, I've read Atlas Shrugged, and the overall message is good, but most of the detractors in the audience just use ad hominem attacks, they're probably bleeding heart liberals lol
Honestly it seems like the people in the audience have rehearsed their answers or were somehow planted there, it's too unnatural. Then again, it's freaking Fox, so would you be surprised?
America is going bast due to its some greedy citizens who after enslaving many countries on this planet still were so greedy that could help to throttle its own citizens. We should all celebrate.
How nieve. They'll never get the sort of govt they're asking for. It will always be in the hands of the power hungry who will act for their own self interest by taking from others with only promises of giving something in return. As long as there's a monopoly of power, the controllers will get their hands on it and expand it.
What does her personal life have to do with the book? She was a genius and prophetic. Only someone who believes in collectivisim could use that arguement.
Bernanke is Mouch. Definitely.

5:18 Finally it's explained. The first younger speaker of the evening completely missed the point of objectivism.

Businesses should be self-organised through contracts and not through statutes (corporations).

Government should just focus on Military, Police, and Judges. Great so we will be a corporate police state!

Ah yes. Hate the "Moochers".
Hitler used to pull that same crap on Jewish people. Calling them a race of moochers unwilling to produce anything. Only to take money.
We all know where that lead to, don't we?
