  • Beautiful song! I miss having him in the world.

  • search nicolas and the iceni summer's end. they write beautiful english folk which has echoes of drake.

  • Dear Nick,

    You deserved much better.

    Sincerely,

Everyone who has ever listened to one of your songs.

  • Nicely done video to a beautiful song.

  • I discovered Nick Drank the same time as just about everyone else when I heard his music in that car commercial a few years ago. I was immediately enchanted by his haunting music and voice. I thought he was a NEW artist! I only later saw the copyright was in the early 1970s!

Such a tragic loss that he died so young around age 26. Thank God he left us his wonderful body of work, all the more precious for how little of it there is.

RIP, man. Your time has finally come.

  • Isn't it ironic that the album this song was on initially only sold 3,000 copies, yet a video for this one song has over 77,000 hits?

  • This is my favourite Nick Drake song. An amazing talent.

  • The beautiful song ever written.

  • This song, The Sundays "Here's Where the Story Ends" and the Eel's "Numbered Days" are the most perfect songs ever.

  • This is the closest a song has ever come to being a dream.

  • a skin too few...

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs you will ever here, and it has 70,000 hits? What does that tell you about the direction of this fucked up country? Thank God, we're among those lucky 70,000. God knows what other shit we could be listening to.

  • wherever there's good music there's john cale

  • What a waste.

  • GREAT SONG!

  • @closetome It's a love song. Why not include the people he loved?

  • I think this song was ahead of it's time. Maybe that is why it's taken so long to be appreciated.

  • @proline473 The artist was ahead of his time; still is, for better or for worse.

  • real classic.. I first heard it on the closing sceene in the movie Serendipity.. what a shame it took me so long to heard it for the first time..

  • si vous aimez cette chanson vous allez surement aimer ma version de northern sky :) merci d'ecouter et partager si vous aimez :)

  • My absolute favorite Nick Drake song

  • Moυσικαρας

  • My fiance and I chose this as our wedding song. <3

  • This was my first dance with my husband on our wedding day. Such a beautiful love song.

  • Nick is one of my favorite musicians of all time.

  • this is one of the song so fine it's almost too much

  • @nigshakespeare

    @jiggety99

John Cale actually played the Celeste (keyboard) and not the piano. I believe that Nick played the piano, but I am not 100% certain on this.

  • Supermadhatter... how cool that you had this when it came out.

Its amazing that he has such appeal now as a result of the timelessness of his music. Its a shame that my love for this music that goes back to my uni days in the 90s is sullied by bloody Brad Pitt coming out and saying he is a huge fan!!

Supermad.... you may be the original original Nick Fan!!!

  • Nick... i just can say three words: I love you :)

  • Sweet....beautiful song!

  • Bought this in 1971, still play ithe album, Oh why did he do what he did to himself, so talanted, So beautiful xxxx RIP.

  • wonderful... nothing better that Drake to get you through a winter..

  • I feel in love with this song when i watched Serendipity. & it's making me think of that special person :) Ah the inexplicable things that music conveys. I only wish he'd fess up and just tell me already. lol Life is too short. Anyway, this song is SO GOOD. Nuff' said.

  • Forever in our Hearts Nick.

  • Nick had such a pure and innocent way with his music. The world didn't fully appreciate the geniusness of him when he lived. Now, he shines bright... A Star in the Northern Sky ((( O )))

  • 0 people are zeros :)

  • beautiful song he commited suicide after his 3rd LP such a shame

  • Love you NIck

  • Very deep.

  • In the words of Don Maclean,

" This World Was Never Meant For One As Beautiful as Nick "

  • This is perfection. He moves me so very much.

  • Sorry. My last comment should have been addressed to Debyk1,who asked about this film a week ago.----- not nigshakespeare

  • Nigshakespeare

The film I saw that it was in was '' Serendipity'' when a boy meets a girl he loves, by chance, at an ice rink in the USA. Nick's song made the meeting very moving. What a great song this is.

  • @essaw I agree with you 100%. This song made the movie in my opinion. I had no idea at the time what the name of the song was nor the artist. When I did find out and to learn that the artist had died, it made the song even more endearing.

  • This was out wedding song.

    Nick is my favorite artist.

  • Wonderful song. I remember hearing it in a movie, but I can't remember which movie it was. Can anyone help me? :)

  • @debyk1 Serendipity starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale.

  • @nigshakespeare Thanks! Sweet movie!

  • @nigshakespeare Thanks! Sweet movie.

  • @nigshakespeare Thanks!!!

  • @nigshakespeare Garden State

  • @loosefur206 "One of These Things First" was in Garden State. This song was in Serendipity.

  • @debyk1 It was also in Fever Pitch.

  • @GoldHeartsDontBeat Two movies that I like very much. But I have Fever Pitch DVD and will watch it again. I definitely think that this song is stuck in my subconscious. That's not bad at all.

  • @debyk1 or fever pitch.... and something eles too i think.

  • @debyk1 Fever Pitch maybe ?

  • @debyk1 and fever pitch with Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore. Go sox!

  • @debyk1 Was it Serendipity?

  • @deby It was also in Fever Pitch starring Drew Barrymore.........

  • Im 36 an wrote a song called ''troubled mind''' when I was 32 thanks to the beautiful influence of this man.....an that song will go on to win me my first Ivor Novello award.............watch this space and the dedication will be to Nick Drake. As will my first dance at my wedding to a man that introduced me to this beautiful voice!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm pretty sure that's he on piano as well. What an amazing musician he was. Thinking about the tragedy of his life and listening to this song always brings me to near tears. I guess all one can do is appreciate what he left for us all to enjoy and introduce others to his music.

  • @jiggity99 It was actually John Cale on piano. An outstanding composition though.

  • @jiggity99 What tragedy?

  • @jill198751 tragedy: he suffered from crippling depression; his music primarily was unappreciated when he was alive; he killed himself

Yeah, yeah...i get it. His life was not tragic because his music lives on and inspires people today. I just wish he was around to see it.

  • Wow, 34 years ago? He was soooooo ahead of his time! Alexi Murdoch kind of sounds like him.

  • This song will be played at my funeral.

  • This song will be played at my funeral.

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • It is truly a privilege to know Nick Drake's music. I always try to spread the word about this guy.

  • Wonderful. Just wonderful xx

  • Nick was one of those rare treasures and his great talent was never really appreciated by the public. I think that the success of his sister, Gabrielle, probably didn't help to secure the confidence that he lacked.

  • First heard this song from the movie "Serendipity". A very haunting melody. Had to find out who made this song. When I did find out, and that the artist had died, I was devastated.

  • One of THE GREATEST songs ever. Amazing Nick....Amazing!!!

  • volis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • one of my favorites and i only found it 3 years ago. truly soul warming...

  • This song is so lovely

  • some of the best stuff ever. will never forget you, Nick.

  • Beautiful song. it is my favorite.! Such a talented guy. Died much too young.

He is loved and missed by many...

  • If only I could have saved you, Nick! I know I could of!

  • 34 Years ago today we lost you. We miss you Nick...

  • So delicate...

  • Nick has inspired countless songwriters, but the following are two of my favourites that illustrate that lineage.

All The Pictures On The Wall (Paul Weller)

Life In A Northern Town (Dream Academy)

  • Wonderful, thanks !!

  • What a beautiful tribute to such a perfect recording. I agree that it's the greatest love English love song of modern times...Ironic that it came from such a tortured soul.

  • This gorgeous, wonderful and wise song is one of my favorites ever, so much so I want it played at my funeral one day. Nick, you were a visionary, a mystic and dreamer that sadly could never be understood and appreciated in your own time. But the numbers of your fans have grown so much year after year since your death. Your beautiful spirit is truly missed.

  • It's said that genius is seldom appreciated in one's lifetime. Nick Drake is a prime example of this. I just saw the documentary based on his life, "A Skin Too Few", and I can't begin to imagine the anguish he must have felt as his music was basically ignored during his life. I'm sure, if he were here now, he'd get a big kick out of how his music is loved today. Thanks, Nick, for bringing these exquisite songs to life through your voice & guitar; your talent is appreciated now...

  • @seattlejohn01 I'm in college right now, and i don't understand why people don't listen to nick's music instead of listening to hip hop. But anyway, i'm happy that he's not around;he was disappointed once, and i don't want him to go through the same life again. I wish that i get to see him after i die. I am sure that he has come up with far more sublime music by now.I'm dying to hear his latest compositions.

  • Exquisite !

  • Beautiful lyrics and scales. He reminds me of James Taylor in some ways.

  • i love nick drake is music really touchs me saddens me that i will never be able to meet the man as an old friend of mine once wisely said some stars just shine to brightly for this world R.I.P Nick Drake,Jim Morrison,Syd Barrett,John Martyn,Hendrix and many more :)

  • @HappySyndicate all ripped from us too soon, just like Kurt Cobain, Cliff Burton, and Randy Rhoads.

Their music lives on though, and that, that can never die.

Thanks Nick for what you did, and for leaving a bit of your soul to light these dark times!

  • I love this song!!! I wish he was still with us.
