  • Look....Dumb and Dumber both dislike this song.

  • See how fluid and gliss the bass notes are on the slides around 3:22 and 4:53-8? Dee was an amazing bassist, for sure (I bet Elton didn't have to instruct him at all- he just did it RIGHT)... His intonation was great if he was, indeed, playing fretless.

  • Thank you so much for the trip down memory lane. I was 16 when this was recorded, and I was turned on to Elton by my old friend Terry, who has long since passed away. This song was singularly responsible for me buying everything this man ever recorded. I don't give a damn about his gayness, he's one helluva talent. Thanks again!

  • Dee Murray is maybe the most underrated bass player - any bass player out there that is worth their salt should be hip to this album and Dee's bass playing. R.I.P. Dee - and thank you for your great sounds!

  • wow that was fucking incredible!

  • Welcome to the MAGIC of fretless electric bass..some amazing lines here!..

  • @TwoPointsUp I think this isn't a fretless one... he normally used a fretted Fender Jazz bass.. but the way he plays, sometimes may sound like a fretless in some riffs or scales.

  • @EJinthe70s - Do you have the LP of this recording? The picture on the back clearly shows no frets on his bass, and appears to be a Fender Precision, not Jazz. bass.He certainly uses flatwound stings at any rate..

  • The bass is unbelievable! Straight Funk!

  • R.I.P. Dave Herman

  • This is the best live performance I've ever heard him do of this.

  • NIGEL, ELTON, DEE. "GREAT TOGETHER"

  • thank you dee ...

  • I've learned playing bass on this record ... I'll never forget 17.11.70

  • i don't know whats more impressive: elton's piano playing and singing.....or Dee Murray's playing. that guy was a rock. may he rest in peace

  • After all these years, STILL a great listening!

  • Going to c elton john at madison square garden for my birthday march 16th!!!!

  • This was my first 8 track tape !!!!

  • Whew. I was in the audience that night. What fun to hear this music again!

  • wow.. should have been great!!! I wish I was there too! this live album really opened my mind! did you enjoy the show?

  • @BarbaraJaneP I envy u! i discovered this album a few month ago. i was blown away!! nothing beats the 70's.

  • Very amazing concert, thank you for sharing! ;-)

  • MONDO THANKS!!! Though some may disagree, this was his best album. Three piece, kick ass. Nigel Olsen was one of the best drummers save John Bonhamn that played during that time period.

  • you don't need your 5 or 6 piece band elton....these 2 guys who provided your rythymn section in the 70s were all you ever needed man. RIP Dee Murray....what a bass player!

  • Bought this LP in 1971 when I was 19! It still sounds great. !

  • This is the ELTON JOHN BAND and that's how it should have remained....what a tight band! Professional and entertaining! The drumming is superb. The BEST band Elton has ever had!

  • sehr geile Scheibe, ich hab sie auch noch von damals!!! It's magic, how they rock the studio! And always he plays live, this man, til now!!! Pur energy ... be my pilot Elton John forever!!

  • My dad gave me the vinyl of this its amazing =D

  • yes ivoryman, it's a really great live album - it has been remastered in 1992 but I do prefer the sound of the old 1971 vinyl, it's much more realistic! everyone should have 17.11.70.... just a 3-piece-band (piano, bass and drums) but so tight and powerful. every musician should have it also, it's better of many instructional videos of how to play those instruments!!

  • @EJinthe70s - It's actually "11-17-70" -but this is a trivial point..Cheers :)

  • @TwoPointsUp ---Depends on which way your country records the date. The Brits like to list the day first then month. Us Yanks like it the other way. So, the record was actually relased in the U.K. as "17-11-70" and in North America as "11-17-70". You can find both on Ebay, pretty cool stuff. :)

Would have been less confusion if he had just done the concert on 11-11-70 instead LOL

  • @whitakerwebworks -Yes, for sure..But I guess it is clear enough, as long as one number is more than 12..Otherwise is 11-8-70 November 8th, 1970 or August 11th, 1970?? I prefer the sound of the vinyl, too, especially throught a decent tube amp!

  • They set the studio on fire.

That's alot of noise for three guys- amazing backing vocals as well.

    Transcendent Rock & Roll

  • I love this music, I have this these albums, tapes and cd"s since I was 13! Thank You!!!

  • Thanks: This is great you've put this on... I think next someone with the 1992 remastered CD version should upload 11-17-70.
