Every time he felt in danger, he flopped to his back. Overeem landed by far the more meaningful strikes making him the winner. Why do people think JDS is so much better striker than Overeem? Overeem is K-1 Champion. He's beaten far better strikers than JDS. JDS vs Overeem should be a great fight.

Werdum managed to have a few decent exchanges, but only a couple strikes did any real damage. Overeem legitimately knocked Werdum to the canvas. He just was wary of being caught in a sub, so he didn't follow up. Overeem controlled the fight. It was an easy fight to judge. Both corners and fighters knew Overeem had won.

Werdum landed more punches than Overeem. Werdum was hopelessly out of shape and gave far to much respect to Overeem. On that performance I think JDS may well come out on top when he fights Overeem. He didn't commit a great deal of strikes to Werdum as his plan was to primarily disrupt Werdum's takedown game, of which he succeeded. A committed striking game against a very experienced BJJ fighter will result in the striker being taken to the floor if he doesn't know how to stop takedowns. You don't know if Velasquez or dos Santos would drop Overeem, they haven't fought.

That's the reason Fedor never got signed, even when he would have brought them big money. It's also why Ken Shamrock left the UFC. Since Overeem fights in K1, we may not see him fighting in UFC for some time.

If a UFC fighter wants to pursue another interest, they have to leave the UFC. Hardly fair for the person, but from a business perspective, understandable. Protecting their own interests.

The Zuffa franchise is only owned a small part by Dana White. He doesn't have control over Zuffa or the UFC, he is more like Zuffa's front man.

Additionally, there are no doubt a lot of people commenting who are BJJ/wrestling/judo/sambo type fans and yes any half decent MMA fighter needs to know how to grapple in order to fight in this sport. Overeem showed that having a good conditioning program and training to avoid takedowns, you can frustrate even the best of grapplers. So what if Overeem refused to fight him on the ground. Would Werdum, whose strikes were hardly great by any standard, fight overeem in K-1? I doubt it.

He frustrated Werdum by refusing to fall into his game plan and kept working at his own. He kept to his strengths which is his striking and avoided ground fighting with the BJJ BB Werdum. Werdum refused to really trade strikes with Overeem as well because Overeem is the better striker. This is combat sports people, you fight to your strengths and hide your weaknesses.

Overeem bullied a fatigued Werdum for the rest of the round. Overeem knows how to roll with punches, if you watch the head movement by him you will see he doesnt get hit solidly a single time.

Overeem bullied Werdum for 3 rounds. Keep watching it - you need to learn more about MMA.
