Those are usually not a result of bad science, or baseless speculation from scientists. They are usually a result of poor journalism. The journalists take the ideas in the fringe of research and proclaim it "the next big thing" before there is any consensus or even any separate confirmation, that the discovery is legitimate.
I submit that it is the Journalism, NOT the Science.
