Would you sharing with me if you used meta data to help organize the P2 footage?
Did you have a laptop to dump the footy, then use a meta data editor to edit scene/take number, to make the editor's life easier? I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do the steps properly, and have read somewhere that Avid doesn't read XML files, which is where the meta data is edited within the P2 card's contents folder.
I'm trying to learn metadata workflow as you can see.
Unfortunately I can't help you with your questions as we didn't use any meta data in post. Since I'd be in the edit, I dumped the cards to an external drive and quickly scanned through the footage in the P2 viewer to get a sense of what might be good to use.
Then we did a straight AMA import into Avid MC5 and edited directly from there. It also helped that there wasn't a great deal of footage to have to go through.
Hey thanks for responding. I'm figuring it out now, just a series of trial and error.
I'm a bit more comfortable with it now. I'm practicing and figuring out that I can place markers for claps, like for multicam syncing. I'd do it in the field, then in post, the editor just snaps to the markers which show up when AMA'd into the Avid. Helps alot actually, problem is my cam isn't even P2, it's AVCHD, with panasonic's fast Mpeg to P2 freeware transcoder. It degrades slightly.
Congrats on a fantastic film!
