  • I love how you Americans try to practice catch and release so much but you don't even know how to handle a fucking fish.

  • dottie...man i love this story.

  • wow its moments like this that make me truly luv the sport of fishing and im going to keep luving it forever. these guys are true fisherman and i wish them all nothign more but the most amazing of luck in the future :) LONG LIVE FISHING

  • they find the fish later dead

  • WOW

  • For those of you who are arguing against catch and release fishing you've no appreciation of fish. You've clearly never held a beautiful, wild fish in your hands and felt a connection to the fish and it's origins. Catch and release fishermen are not the problem with decaying fish populations, it's those who show up with a crude rig and jerk a few out for supper that do not get it. "Nobody that does not know how to catch a fish, should disgrace a fish by catching it." ~Reverend Maclean

  • japan got it haha

  • i live right by dixon i see these guys everytime i go i was there when they released dottie in 2006 it was huge i had a picture on my old phone. swim baits and jigs work best @ dixon lake.

  • that a boy you tell him

  • the bass died its not in the lake any more

  • Its true fish dont have feeling in there mouth... if you do accidentaly foul hook a fish you will notice they fight a whole lot harder. its happens to me every now and then w/ cranks lol

  • wanna know a good reason? It's the best sport in this planet, how bout that reason?

  • It is my job to care, trust me when I say I care. There are fisheries to be taken care of, and part of my job is to educate the public on proper care and handling techniques involved in catch and release fishing. Absolutely there will be stress for "that creature." Every creature on this planet will endure stress in its life. To each their own, you're obviously not a fisherman and thats fine, you can enjoy your football and cricket, I wont judge you.

  • you're obviously not very educated on the subject. Animals do have feelings your absolutely right. So do fish.

I will start by pointing out that I am a Fish and Wildlife Technologist. I have worked on numerous projects in relation to recreational and tournament angling. If bass felt pain in their mouths, do you think they would eat sunfish and perch or crayfish? Those spines pack a punch. The nerve endings just arent there to cause the pain that we would feel. My educated 2 cents.

  • Fish Have No Felling In There Mouth So Shut Up! Fish Dont Have The Brain Capasity To Feel ain Anywhere Where They Do Have Feeling!!!

  • :{|

  • lol @ soliquoy... you're dumb

  • I agree steve lol

  • too bad dottie is dead...

  • i caught the ugliest 110lb fish before!

    i call it my wife!

    lol jk im not married.

  • youre just stupid

  • What a fat ass.

  • Fear NO Fish!

  • first fish i caught was a 3 pound trout i was so happy with it and just seeing how large these fish makes my catch look like a minnow lol

  • I'm a flaming liberal AND an avid fisherman-SCREW all you sportsman haters-what possible "damage" and stress could be done to a fish that is that fat?...obviously it is healthy and released to live...this is an artificial lake stocked with non-indigenous fish all paid for by sport licenses...armchair environmentalists are just a bunch of sissies crying "FREE THE COWS".....by far the greatest habitat protection, mangement, and restoration is paid for by fisherman and hunters

  • you said it!!!!

  • Horacewayne has a point. Though I would have liked to see that fish in a netbag at the wheighin (spelling).

  • lol, nice. I agree, free the cows haha. But dont forget, nothing wrong with environmentalists, without us those cows would still be locked up and then what would you eat?

  • i consider myself a pretty serious environmentalist....and a fisherman....i don't hunt anymore and only kill fish while camping for a meal...i keep fish for home from artificial lakes and stockings and from healthy saltwater areas....i just get perturbed when people preach envirnmental issues and don't really spend time in the wildrness..i realized when i lived in seattle that i appreciated the selective loggers i met while mushroom hunting more than my hrdcore microsoft employee enviropreachers

  • Ya i know, some people are obliviously over-board. I wasn't being sarcastic btw, but i dont mind when people fight for the environment, even if they are over board, becuase i love fly fishing and camping, and im very passionate about the outdoors, so if people ware willing to strap themselves to save trees, go for it. They usually lose in the end, but at least someone is willing to fight, and thats re-assuring, and alllllllright.

  • yeah- i don't mean to preach either-it is sad and a mistake to let the wedges be driven between environmentalists and outdoor sportsmen-here in Az i have seen billboards in the beautiful white mtns. blaming major forest fires on enviroMENTALists and the like-it wasn't this way a hundred years ago-T roosevelt and parks and such-there is a lot more in common between these groups than with the timber industry, mining, etc. that usually pays for these ads..i think it is changing though-hopefully

  • I'm more about conservation than environmentalism. I'm going to school for that and fisheries tech. I love fishing and I'm starting to hunt but I still do stuff to help the environment. Clean ups, sustainability, and other stuff.

  • @horacewayne you can suck my pp

  • Sports fisherman pay a lot of money in licensing and fees that go towards the proper management and protection of fish and their habitat.. I can only imagine the sense of ownership and good these guys do for the fishery in Lake Dickson. They have everything to lose by NOT taking care of the fish they are after. I commend them for releasing such a large fish!!

  • i love fishing its nice that national geographic put something i"m interested in

  • Why the spawning season? when the fish need peace to breed not get killed before they spawn.I never fished for sport and caught only what I could eat that day.

  • this seems so fucking cruel. sport fishing in general represents western culture.

lets trick the fish and puncture a hole into their mouths, take them out of the water, then throw them back in.

what happened to fishermen who caught fish for the purpose of eating? And I mean when they really needed to eat. not when they wanted some trout along side their steaks and lobster.

  • If you need food you catch only what you need. You do not torment and abuse the wildlife just to say 'Gee Bubba ah caught me a big un'.You're right mebe ,to my knowledge it's a western 'thing'.

  • no its not a western thing. this is practiced around the world. it was started in the US as a way to control overfishing, i don't know how much if any fishing you've done but most fish caught are too small to eat. catch and release is no more cruel than the tagging of other animals by scientists. to top it off what these guys did with this particular fish by weighing and releasing the fish was no different from what scientists do. if this vid bothers you never go to a slaughter house.

  • Thanks winterborn 82, I appreciate your reply. The catch and release program started with good intent..Specimen gathering of fish is generally not done by a hook as it would cause damage.I guess what really bothers me is the repeated catching and damage of an adult fish if it is just done for fun.

  • its fairly rare to repeatedly catch an adult fish, they learn to be wary of hooks, i'm suprised that they were able to catch this fish again. most fish that dont learn end up as dinner, this is a form of natural selection. while many people do fish entirely for fun it is a very good skill to learn. the catching isn't as stressful on bass carp catfish as it seems, these are very tough fish.

  • They snagged the fucking thing. That's something 10 year olds do.

  • Their wives don't mind because they know, no matter how big that fish is, it doesn't have a mouth nearly as big as any of theirs.

  • Fuck off.

  • LOL chill dude it's just a comment on a vid >.>

  • Wow, even if the catch did not count at least the have it documented. Bummer...

  • hmm...
