@Laylabelle97 Apparently at the time, since she was with Satoshi all of the time and declared to her entire family her love for him, they punished her just for it. You see Satoshi and Satoko, pretty much their whole nuclear family was hated and shunned by the Sonozaki Family for their involvement with building a dam which some locals had a problem with. Since then, the Sonozaki family and some of the locals were jerks to the kids, including M/S's grandmother who was darn stubborn.

@Laylabelle97 Like I said, Mion and Shion's grandmother was darn stubborn, and placed her hatred on Satoshi and Satoko, although they did nothing to them to bring this about. It was about a dam that their father and a few others were trying to build, which was a problem to the locals. The kids' parents died in an accident believed by some due to the curse, leaving the two along with a abusive uncle and aunt. Both of them were forced to deal with them and constant shunning by the locals.
