@falang78 I'm glad you can see it from a different perspective. As for the the reason for the comments I have to say being half-drunk is no excuse. How can you be judgmental and be only half-drunk? I recommend at least 87%. All jokes aside I think there are greater ways to deal with your own turmoil... I've ended mine, and you should find a permanent way as well.
It actually makes me extremely sad after reading this book and seeing this movie, that I will never get to meet this truly inspirational man. Christopher McCandless had a big impact on my life and I hope his story has touched others as much as it has me.
I finished the book last week and never thought of looking for the trailer until now. I'm pretty disappointed that it looks like a comedy in some scenes since Vince Vaughn plays Wayne (which I don't think anyone pictured Wayne as). I'm going to watch it tho and hopefully it's just the trailer and not the whole movie.
@falang78 You must really like replying to comments. Also not to sound like a hippy or anything but some people (this would be you) can't understand the reasoning of people like your so called anti-hero. He had the wanderers itch, there's nothing wrong with that. Live a little.
You are absolutely right about your thoughts on me and may be right on your opinion of Chris. The interior lives of people are much too complex for others to understand or judge. I'm sorry for all the replies. I was in a half-drunk, inspirational/judgmental mood. This tale means a lot to me as I have been living overseas and separated from my family for 10+ years. Perhaps my comments here are my therapy for my interior struggles that I'm dealing with.
I have just finished reading the book and couldn't put it down. All of life is there and is lived intensely by this young man. The overall sense for me is of both the beauty he saw around him in the wild and the terrible sense of tragedy for those he touched and left behind. This is what it means to live in this world.
i watched into the wild the other night and it is such an amazing film! but it is so thought provoking and intense that it made me feel dizzy, confused and sad. it kind of scared me and it upset me more than any horror film I've watched. i just couldn't go to sleep after that. but it is indeed a fantastic and beautiful film!
I'ts strange, i just listened to the soundtrack for this movie, yet when i see the trailer the two don't really go hand in hand. The soundtrack made it sound so peaceful, like into the wild, one with nature, money isn't everything that sort of thing. but this is so different.
forget everything you know about kristen stewart. I did not recognize that this girl is the famous actor of this vampire movie at the first time. But I really like the role she plays in this piece of art. Into the wild is a great movie especially for individual viewers. Very deep and without that nonsense you see in all day movies. I also bought the book which reveals even more beauty of this fantastic "story"!
@FamousUtuber okay you little shit who the fuck do you think you are!? Jon Krakauer? ur book shoot up to be new york time best seller cuz the school system forced millions of kids to buy this shit
Learn from his mistakes. Took me ten years to do so. Not all central protagonists are heroes. Feel blessed that you're reading contemporary non-fiction and not forced to study, The Outsiders.
This movie is possibly the worst one I've ever seen. And this is coming from an Anarcho-Primitivist.
It's more or less some teenager that wants to rebel, hangs out in the wild (doesn't build his own shelter, but occupies a fucking deserted bus) and then dies because he eats a poisonous berry.
No. Richard Proenneke was a naturalist as well. In fact, he spent 30 years in the Alaskan wilderness and built his own cabin - by hand. Where's his movie?
What courage is there, by the way? Are you saying that nature is something different from us, that requires "courage" to take part of?
That's just silly. We are nature, and all our artificial boundaries will come to a stop one day, and we will have to realize that.
I watched the movie several times and read the book even more. I, like many of us, idolized Chris - a free spirit lusting to escape societal expectations. But 10+ years after reading the book, I realized that Chris reflected the worst in me. He was a mirror of my self-pity. I always felt that people misunderstood me. My heart and intentions were pure in my mind but I finally realized only my actions truly reveal who I am. What did his actions reveal to us?
His actions clearly show that he was young, stubborn, resentful and incapable of forgiving. I know I said this early. His family are the victims and heroes of this tragedy. They were flawed but never wavered in their love for him. They buried a child that loathed them without any ability for empathy. They will suffer infinitely for his immaturity and incapacity for forgiveness. They buried a child much too young. For what? Decade old parental infidelity? Tragic.
But maybe I'm completely wrong. Perhaps his childhood was more traumatic than the book and film portrayed. Perhaps his parents' relationship was violent or psychologically toxic to their children. Perhaps he didn't cowardly run away; perhaps he escaped with his sanity still intact. Ultimately, his journey has surely sparked numerous conversations and debates among many - and these dialogues may have enlightened and inspired others to make a change. It certainly did for me.
@gortijx Obviously, you are a very narrow minded person. Alexander Supertramp has touched and inspired thousands of people- something you will never achieve with your attitude. He has made that *click* in people's minds, to follow their dreams- whether it to be to travel, for a job, or to simply hitch-hike to an unknown destination. When he died, he died very happily. And for the record, he didn't die from poisonous berries. He died from starvation.
Far from. I just think it's silly that this arrogant clown gets a movie and book made after him when he's done NOTHING special except died, like a fool, in the wild. A lot of kids around the early 90's did exactly what he did. The reason he's so special? He died.
Do you mean to tell me that Proenneke, for example, never followed his dream? If so, you're the narrow minded one.
For the record, you should stop judging people from comments on a Youtube video.
@gortijx I can see that you are a fucking boring man, he is dead you should have more respect, this is a great story, he simply had a different point of view of life
So what if he's dead? A lot of people are dead, and I'm not exactly making fun of him for being dead. Many sources said he was arrogant, and Alaskans do consider him a foolish clown - for dying when he could have done so much to avoid it.
It's a great STORY, yeah. Sadly, it's falsely portrayed by Hollywood and his family to make kids like you inspired and teary-eyed.
There's nothing different with his view of life, he's not the first person to bash civilization.
@gortijx The reason he ends up in the position he does by the end of the film is because of of his naivety and his inexperience, and they make no attempt at hiding that fact. But it's not the crux of the film. What is the crux of the film are the characters.
That's why it's a character study and not a survival guide.

@ChicagoCubsGirl1 i agree that kristen stewart should not have been in this film but i strongly recommend that u see this film its very good and stewart isn't in it that long thank god.
@ChicagoCubsGirl1 But you know, Kristen acts really good in this movie,, you should watch the movie Speak, when she really shows herself like an actress
I love movies which try to make the viewer to think and questioning something. This is defenitley one of those movies. If you liked Into the wild, i recommend watching "The Road", "I am Legend" and especially "The Way Back". Also these are not so embellishing.
Chiefksam, Arron Ralston is a stupid shit who tried to push it solo and got over his head. Fuck him for making a terrible film about his lack of common sense, basic exploitation. Whether you choose to go live in the wild or modern society it really doesn't matter. I think as long as you have someone you love in this life a partner, family who love you and you love them, or a neighbouring community who care about their fellow neighbours, around you, you can be happy. Wherever you are and with whatever you do. I think these are the essential things. Everything else, money, material goals, or reconnecting with nature just shapes up your experiences.
I've been reading a lot of comments and there are so many contrasting views. I've watched this film a few times, hate the ending. But after many conflicting thoughts of my own it all comes down to his parting message 'happiness is only real when shared' so true. I think at the end of the day cheeesy as this sounds the best things in life really are those that are free.
Amazing film..absolutely amazing!! Everyone must watch it because it the kind of film that just shows you not only the material things, shows you the love from other people and that's the most important thing the joy and love in one life. That's the only thing that is important in one life!!
They are those who who don´t care about others opinions and live life as an adventure no matter how risky it is, then they are those, who sit behind a tv , judge , criticize and live a monotonous life.
We are responsibile for our social system. I empathize with Americans at the moment - knee deep in a religious show down of religiously absurd republican candidates. I do hope you'll return to your senses. Heck, the USA gave the world most of the technology of the 20th century - but now the repubs want to settle on the ancient words of desert sheep herders as law. We miss the real USA. Not the covert, regime changing USA - the innovating America. (from a Canadian)
didnt saw this movie or know something about it but i have a plan like this in my life ... i will watch this movie soon ... i start my trip next year first of all i have to fix somethings in my life ... than i will leave germany and live in New York for a while maybe as a homeless but i will do it i swear to you internet people ;)

Christopher McCandless is one of few people that ever seen the truth and essential in life, far away from our material world. A true inspiration!

Romantics. You're all romantics. Fiction is more soothing.

They are those who who don´t care about others opinions and live life as an adventure no matter how risky it is, then they are those, who sit behind a tv , judge , criticize and live a monotonous life.

The American pit. Speak for yourself. Most rational beings seek out experience sans death-wish.

@hidalgo699
