  • I can't believe no one clotheslined themselves on that rope.

    Disappointing. =(

  • Who thought this was a good idea?

  • 23 years on I'm still struggling to believe this actually happened.

  • @davedujour How the hell Prince Edward thought he would have a career in TV after this is jaw-dropping. Was this covertly funded by a Anti-monarchist Communist cabal or something? It might as well have been for the PR impact it had! Cringeworthy. I didn't know they had licenced it overseas too. Loads of Americans must have been thinking thank God for the Boston Tea Party!

  • Oh dear - this whole event is remembered as probably the most embarrasing moment for the royal family. Prince Edward came across as right little spoilt brat when he gave a press conference afterwards...

  • I have it on tape.

  • @ 0.25 the grand knock out tournament is underway.

  • @ 0.23 "call out the guards" and we're off and running.

  • poor old gary his costume is not good for him.

  • OMG Is this real or am i having a psychotic episode??

  • 10 months later and it is still not possible to tell.

  • How embarrassing! I think the whole nation cringed while watching this.

  • This is such a vain attempt by the royals to appear "one f us", it isn't even funny.

  • What the hell where they thinking!?

  • A dysfunctional bunch of inbred german half-wits who should be consigned to the history books.

  • Gary Linekar the greatest footballer in the world my arse.

  • I think the commentator was being wryly parochial.

Mind you, in 1987 he held the World Cup Golden Boot, the acclaim of the Nou Camp, and had been cruelly denied the Ballon d'Or by some flash-in-the-pan Russian, so he must have been close. Van Basten I'd guess.

  • Learn to spell before you make such an important decision!!!

The Royals make England what it is today.

  • I think England has so much more to offer than the Royal Family--English contribution to literature alone is worth so much--but I am personally a supporter of the Royal Family and see where you're coming from :)

  • that would be a very silly and short sighted thing to do.

The benefit both politically, economically and socially is immense. A little research is necessary before promoting republican ignorance. I for one am certainly no Royalist, but the benefits for the minor amount the public contribute (around 60pence per annum) is unlike anything else in the world. you only need to look at the charity list, or global business impact that royal influence has to see their huge importance to Great Britain.

  • Its the worst moment in british tv history. Which makes it the funniest

  • Can you upload the one where the people in the king costumes get stuck trying to get through the opening in the wall. That's my favourite bit of the whole tournament. And the one with everyone trying to catch the vegetables for the pot!

  • Get a life

  • I have everything that was aired on American TV, which includes both those segments. Eventually I'll get it all uploaded.

  • I too have a 22yr old video that I am just getting around to transferring to dvd, I was there and it was truely a good day for raising money for the charities, seeing different nationalities work togther and the general fun aspect too.

  • I'd rather see the video of His Royal Asshat Prince Edward storming out of the press conference like the big spoiled sissy he is.

  • Yeah, well those were the days when everyone was up for a bit of a laugh. Nothing wrong with that.

  • Tragic!

  • Imagine if Prince Edward had gotten Charles and Diana to participate!

  • at least they had fun

  • Do you have the video where after this 'show' prince edward gets tetchy with one of the interviewers?

  • Unfortunately no. That wasn't aired in on the USA Network.

  • I wonder was it ridiculed as much in the US as it was in the UK? It was a national joke over here - at the royals' expense

  • I don't remember it getting much attention over here. Most people I've talked to about it have never heard of the event. I think it only aired once.

  • You can be certain it only aired once - they made twats out of themselves and never lived it down

  • haha id love it if they aired this again at christmas and the after bit with edward the princess haha :P

  • Yes its hilarious when the royals attempt to be 'one of the people' and then fail miserably

  • Thanks for giving us this great video. a low point in royal pr (as mentioned in Tina brown's diana biography)
