The Iraqi desert isn't a perfectly flat salt-pan the way its always portrayed in movies which really bugs me because if those troopers were on foot and fighting a numerically superior force that had the advantage of armor and the troopers didn't have anything to hide behind they would have all been dead in a few minutes.
I'm a British Muslim, and each to their own views on the circumstances of the wars' which are currently being waged. Personally I give these men a great deal of respect. @Talz1994 Yeah there's the politics of war and then there's the soldiers perspective. The soldier doesn't care about politics. he's just doing a job he loves. It's possible to respect/be interested in the soldiers role without having to agree with the politics behind the war.
@762SLR762 Really??? ha, ha, ha, who cares, they're killing each other, just like christians killing christians (Catholics Vs Protestants), (British Protestant Vs British Catholics), You are probably seeing more death from the media reports, but other nations that do not have media, will not report it. . . @Mike8901000 The truth wasn't quite as dramatic as this. "McNab's" and "Ryan's" accounts were exaggerated, especially the former's. Only McNab can remember being in a contact with vehicles and dozens of men, the rest of them don't seem to recall that. Read Coburn's "Soldier Five" for what is probably closer to the truth.
But don't let that get in the way of an exciting film.
@1CRAZYMF249 Because the 66mm rocket launcher isn't powerful enough to knock out an APC. It's more effective against soft-skinned vehicles and trenches.
@LtGenAile It would still do some damage though and wouldn't you go for the guy shooting at you rather than the reversing truck? the rocket would still kill the guy on the gun if it hit high even if it just cause minimal damage its one less guy shooting at them and it would probably fuck up the gun too so nobody inside could hop up on it and use it I just don't think a sas soldier would blow up a retreating transport truck when there is a target shooting at them right next to it.
I've just finished re-reading Bravo Two Zero.. must have read it half a dozen times by now. Good on the BBC for sticking so closely to McNab's book, regardless of whether he was inflated his story or not.
@interneti They were at the MSR.. it does look a bit funny, but I could imagine an arab driver just plowing on through the middle of a firefight. Kinda like the scene in The Hurt Locker.
@Ragitsu Think yourself lucky there are men who are ready to do it on your behalf then, Yeah its still violence but when its to end the massacre of innocents its heroic they are putting themselves in harms way to protect others.

All that was missing was someone shouting magazine magazine magazine,
Yeah I agree the cast is pretty poor with the exception of Sean Bean. It is also apparent that this was McNab's film and there is a slight element of revenge depicted here directed against fellow patrol member Chris Ryan, who is depicted somewhat as a bumbling Geordie. I guess it was payback for Ryan's film version called 'The One That Got Away' which depicted Andy McNab as an incompetent, medal-hungry, gung-ho platoon leader. It is a pity that such brave men have resorted to this.
@irmo1978 that's not a mistake.. they are on the MSR (Main supply route), they would not allow people to drive across where ever this is being filmed with pyrotechnics going off everywhere.
This is not even the half of the problem with the media mate. For around the last 30 years or so the media has been running the elections with what's known as the 'drip drip effect'. This is basically where the Media get's bored of a particular government then starts to leak soties, many of which are utter bollocks altho this casual & constant dripping of bs has a huge efect on the voting public who by in large are fickle and believe everything in the papers....contin....
@bobisnohere1 Whilst our media focus their energy on bashing the political elite thus constantly changing the political setup of our nation, other countries such as China don't have this issue & are able to stick to a particular ideology. This, in a nuthsell is why the West has so many issues ranging from immigration - politics - economics. U need a free media although it has to be balanced. Papers have the right to print what they want, even if it's not true. Politicians don't have that luxury.
Countries like Russia and China understand this just by looking at us which is why they keep such a tight grip on their media. Our Media is ruining this country and it's the same issue in much of the open Western world.
Well said and i whole heartedly agree with you. I have seen some individuals who have through talk shows, tried to blance that. If more of us in society could be more supportive of balancing the media bias then it would help our countries and politicians greatly.
A perfect example of this is the Jessica Lynch story during the Iraq war. The Washing Post sensationalized her story with false information. When the truth came out the majority of the media were remarkably quiet!
Yeah I remember that story on Jessica mate. UK and USA are just two sides of the same coin. The problem is that people only figure all this out (regarding the media) when they get into their 30's (if they're lucky) as it takes years of seeing this repeated to get what's going on. People like Murdoch are to blame. This was actually told to me by an older mate of mine altho I had to witness it for myself until I really got what he was saying.
@monkeymaniac64 you are an idiot. There is no comparison - some Americans ARE yanks. But not one single Scotsman is English - that doesn't make any sense you complete moron. Remember that before you go typing "epic fail" - helps you to stop making a complete idiot out of yourself haahahaha!
@manchesterfellow Apparently YOU'RE the idiot. Scots hate being called English, just like every American who doesn't live on that one little stretch in the northeast hates being called a Yankee. Here in West Texas, if you called someone a yank you would find out just how well armed everyone is. I mean EVERYONE.
If The Navy Seals SAS Delta SBS and Green Berets combined to make a task force just for like missions like this I think the enemy would be in a world of shit
It's funny how the majority of the time the SAS have around 9 - 10 men and still manage to take the fight to an army of hundreds and beat them just like the last stand in Oman
but if england is so awesome and full of amazing "commandos" how come us americans kicked their ass out of our country? =) were all on the same team fellas...take it easy.
@Bpiatt06 If you were so great than how come us Brits burned down the White House 40 years after you independence? Read more history mate... you are our greatest success but you should really stick to the battles you actually won.
I love when people compare special forces. Only one way to settle it..Deadliest Warrior! Nah but really, makes me (USA) glad that the UK are our Allies.
@SpartanAirsoft and me being english and just comming back from my 2nd tour in iraq i am glad the USA are our allies you are some tough motherfuckers :)
@SpartanAirsoft well said mate!! im a brit proud of the sas but am equally proud to fight along the seal team. my girlfriend is from usa. makes me part american!!!
@SpartanAirsoft I am too, though i am Canadian, I feel that we share the same kinship in a way. People just dont understand that we are all brothers in the battlefield, not separated by what flag we bear.
@lo8sters Yes. If the Americans had used their tactics & bushcraft more than they did in Vietnam(Aussie SAS assisted their Army SOG groups), instead of carpet bombing, de-foresting & village burning that the US military firmly believed was the correct way. All that did was turn the civilian populace against the US, whereas if the fighting was done in the jungle , out of sight, the locals would have been none the wiser.
Bloody hell...four M249 machineguns and four M16rifles with M203 grenade launchers slung under the barrels, plus they all have LAWs...that's a shitload of firepower for just eight guys
@Scotchbeef84 Given the British government doesn't disclose any information regarding the Special Air Service, I find it somewhat ridiculous you could say that the SAS is 70% Scottish with no proof.
@Scotchbeef84 wasnt david stirling, guy who created the sas a scot? and john macclease who was the only guy to drop someone in the embassy siege was a scot
i just been reading some shit on the net and it says that the sas provided files proving that the frequencies on the radio were correct and that faulty equipment was to blame, therefore blaming mcnab for not checking properly. some1 somewhere is hiding the truth about this mission and it pisses me off cause i wanna know th FACTS not just someone trying to shift the blame to the next man. nobody has accepted responsibility for this cock up of a mission.
the sas are the best elite squad so dont bite my head off. hats off to the soldiers who were involved but to be honest the operation was one big fuck up. for an elite squad the preperation was not good enough and the whoever set up the operation should be hanged. thing is, none of us know the real truth about b20, and really we should, the mod are hiding info cause they fucked up big time. these soldiers done us proud, the officers in charge of the mission were the cockup, not enough intel etc
well one thing, you dont send SAS to do big ass raids, and you dont send Rangers to do recon, or assasination, and im not saying that SAS sucks, i wound want to go up against one, im not going to be an idiot and say "hey buddy, i think i can beat the shit out of you" no thats not the whole point, every spec ops has his own perpose and there damn good at what they do.
It's the song they played out of the helicopters to end the war.
The Iraqi Republican Guard covered their ears in abject pain and mental torture when they heard it. They couldn't even take 3 minutes of it before surrendering.
Luckily, our boys were prepared with ear plugs and ear muffs covering as well.
"In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins. Designed to mentally demoralise the enemy before the middle 8 even gets played.
@BRAVOTWOZEROSAS That's just stupid. I hate that. My Dad would beat your Dad up... My bro worked with them all...Delta, SAS, SBS, SEALs...says they are all great...and human...
@stableshadow what i'm saying is that british sf are better than us sf. and i never said what job my dad did. all i'm gonna say is shy do you think i'm so inspired by this video.
@BRAVOTWOZEROSAS And don't forget, US Delta and Army Special Forces did plenty of great work behind enemy lines during this war. A US Army SF unit was even trapped behind enemy lines but killed forty of the enemy and kept the rest off with air strikes called down danger close before exfil'ing to safety.
@BRAVOTWOZEROSAS well you guys treat like its is "OH SAS IS BETTER THEN DELTA FORCE, FORCE RECON IS BETTER THEN NAVY SEALS, OH SAS CAN KICK ROYAL MARINES ASS" thats not the whole point to spec ops.
@BRAVOTWOZEROSAS exactly thats insulting those who fought and died in the actual combat. Look kid i hope u make it inside but u better be ready to endure some pain and especially do some pretty much athletic level stuff. My uncle who was a delta in the army says they trained with the sas a lot and that they're some tough mothas.
@BRAVOTWOZEROSAS The SEAL's operate also in the water they use the water as an adventage they are the best frogmen in the world and best SF! And on land they can handle every inviorment(including as mountainleader EVERYTHING). They are THE silent warriors and the best of the best! (and so is SAS) but the SEALs are trained in more inviorments and have more other and know better strategic combat. They can handle more than 200 kinds of missions thats more than any SF in the world.
@bennyronny okay then i see your point. The SAS and SBS combined can handle the saem amount of missions as the SEALs. But the SAS was still the founder of all SF and are the toughest and go through the hardest selection procsees ( so do the SBS). UKSF are the best trained in the world. :P
@bennyronny the SAS have a boat sqadron that carries out the exact same types of water based missions as the sbs/seals. The SAS fight in EVERY environment any other force does. Sea land and air - just like the seals.
Also, google "Bloody Heroes Damien Lewis" and just read. You will see that the Navy Seals best "DEVGRU" have an exchange program with the SBS - whereby we put one of ours in DEVGRU they put one of thiers in SBS.
@manchesterfellow Thanks for the information my friend. One thing is SAS does only land missions not at water. The SBS does that. Actualy it doesn't mather anymore, once you are a member of a NATO sf doesn't mather wich: navy SEALs, MARSOF, KCT, KSK, GROM, SBS, SAS, DELTA, Jeagerkorpset ore Norweigian special forces IT DOESN'T mather anymore because once you are in one of them you are the best of the best. Special forces in one term they are the strongest and best soldiers in the world.
@manchesterfellow After selection is passed the soldier loses rank and reverts to Trooper, then attached to a squadron/discipline (air, boat, mob, mountain). That trooper is then on a 2 yr probationary period, but once posted it is very rare to be re-assigned to another sqaudron or discipline. Troops lend to others but usually return said soldier to orignal designated unit.
Members of troops cross train to carry out other troop members jobs in case of fatality or unavailability.
@manchesterfellow Yes I believe you but even the US army special forces(green beret's) do the same thing. And yes what you all named up that is what all the SF do only the NAVAL sf does the extra thing and that is (combat diving....). And I am not badmouthing the SAS lol. I am just saying that I don't care anymore who is best because every NATO sf is great and the best. TASK FORCE man, that is what I call superior. When they all get together. To wipe out thousends of bad guys.
@bennyronny actually your right the us call themselves special forces if theyve undertaken over six months of training btw green berret is taken from the british royal marrines commando which started around ww2 as collaboration between usa and greatbritain so some shared history (:
@bennyronny Boat Troops do all the same jobs as SBS but SBS have larger numbers at thier disposal for larger scale jobs. SAS is first and foremost a Close Recconaisance Unit apart from Counter Terrorist duties.
@bennyronny ever hear of the SBS Special Boat Squadron of the Royal Navy? They can do everything the SAS do and also in water. The Americans invent a squadron and have this falacy about themselves being the world's best. Have they ever proved it though..no. But the SAS and SBS have.
@sandyronnie The US navy has also a type of special forces just like the SBS and its just the same as SBS. SWCC. But SWCC only operates on "water" including riverine and other water inviorments. Go and do a search on youtube about SWCC its worth it. And YES the Navy SEALs have proven that they are the best. You don't have to be ignorant.
@BRAVOTWOZEROSAS Hey sure the royal marines are Very good but comparing them to Delta Force is exagerration, Royal marines arent considered special forces just like the paras, theyre both the best the infantry has to offer but still not SF.
@BRAVOTWOZEROSAS Fanboys are annoying. Go to school and maybe learn in history class that God created the US Marine Corp to kick anyone's ass who gets in their way.
@monkeymaniac64 And you believe in god? You go back to school. Fool. I've been on op with US Marines, and the only thing they were concerned about is whether their gun made their balls look bigger.
@monkeymaniac64 And then the Devil made the British infantry. To rip your fucking face off with a pen knife if you ever ttry talking utter shite. KnowwhatImean?
The Iraqi desert isn't a perfectly flat salt-pan the way its always portrayed in movies which really bugs me because if those troopers were on foot and fighting a numerically superior force that had the advantage of armor and the troopers didn't have anything to hide behind they would have all been dead in a few minutes.

Answer: Because its a film.

It's funny how the majority of the time the SAS have around 9 - 10 men and still manage to take the fight to an army of hundreds and beat them just like the last stand in Oman

are the australian sas any good?
lo8sters 1 year ago
@lo8sters Yes. If the Americans had used their tactics & bushcraft more than they did in Vietnam(Aussie SAS assisted their Army SOG groups), instead of carpet bombing, de-foresting & village burning that the US military firmly believed was the correct way. All that did was turn the civilian populace against the US, whereas if the fighting was done in the jungle , out of sight, the locals would have been none the wiser.

i just been reading some shit on the net and it says that the sas provided files proving that the frequencies on the radio were correct and that faulty equipment was to blame, therefore blaming mcnab for not checking properly. some1 somewhere is hiding the truth about this mission and it pisses me off cause i wanna know th FACTS not just someone trying to shift the blame to the next man. nobody has accepted responsibility for this cock up of a mission.
woolley15 1 year ago
the sas are the best elite squad so dont bite my head off. hats off to the soldiers who were involved but to be honest the operation was one big fuck up. for an elite squad the preperation was not good enough and the whoever set up the operation should be hanged. thing is, none of us know the real truth about b20, and really we should, the mod are hiding info cause they fucked up big time. these soldiers done us proud, the officers in charge of the mission were the cockup, not enough intel etc

@BRAVOTWOZEROSAS And don't forget, US Delta and Army Special Forces did plenty of great work behind enemy lines during this war. @BRAVOTWOZEROSAS The SEALS own the SAS fact!
bennyronny 1 year ago
@bennyronny bullshit, on what basis?
BRAVOTWOZEROSAS 1 year ago
@BRAVOTWOZEROSAS The SEAL's operate also in the water they use the water as an adventage they are the best frogmen in the world and best SF! And on land they can handle every inviorment(including as mountainleader EVERYTHING). They are THE silent warriors and the best of the best! (and so is SAS) but the SEALs are trained in more inviorments and have more other and know better strategic combat. They can handle more than 200 kinds of missions thats more than any SF in the world.
bennyronny 1 year ago
@bennyronny okay then i see your point. The SAS and SBS combined can handle the saem amount of missions as the SEALs. But the SAS was still the founder of all SF and are the toughest and go through the hardest selection procsees ( so do the SBS). UKSF are the best trained in the world. :P
BRAVOTWOZEROSAS 1 year ago
@BRAVOTWOZEROSAS Thanks for seeying my point so is the US navy SEALS.
bennyronny 1 year ago
@bennyronny the SAS have a boat sqadron that carries out the exact same types of water based missions as the sbs/seals. The SAS fight in EVERY environment any other force does. Sea land and air - just like the seals.
Also, google "Bloody Heroes Damien Lewis" and just read. You will see that the Navy Seals best "DEVGRU" have an exchange program with the SBS - whereby we put one of ours in DEVGRU they put one of thiers in SBS.
Best US force is 1SFOD. - SAS equivilent.
manchesterfellow 1 year ago
@manchesterfellow Thanks for the information my friend. One thing is SAS does only land missions not at water. The SBS does that. Actualy it doesn't mather anymore, once you are a member of a NATO sf doesn't mather wich: navy SEALs, MARSOF, KCT, KSK, GROM, SBS, SAS, DELTA, Jeagerkorpset ore Norweigian special forces IT DOESN'T mather anymore because once you are in one of them you are the best of the best. Special forces in one term they are the strongest and best soldiers in the world.
bennyronny 1 year ago
@bennyronny SAS are split into four disciplines.
Mountain troop (climbers and mountain leaders. Expert at feildcraft and survival. See Bear Grylls).
Mobility troop (use fast attack vehicles such as quads, crossers and wmik land rovers)
Air troop (Free fall troops - attack from the air)
Boat troop (Underwater divers, beach insertions, canoeists etc etc)
If you don't believe me look it up - it's well documented.
manchesterfellow 1 year ago
@manchesterfellow the troops switch inbetween these four methods periodically.
manchesterfellow 1 year ago
@manchesterfellow After selection is passed the soldier loses rank and reverts to Trooper, then attached to a squadron/discipline (air, boat, mob, mountain). That trooper is then on a 2 yr probationary period, but once posted it is very rare to be re-assigned to another sqaudron or discipline. Troops lend to others but usually return said soldier to orignal designated unit.
Members of troops cross train to carry out other troop members jobs in case of fatality or unavailability.
di55illu5ioned 1 year ago
@manchesterfellow Yes I believe you but even the US army special forces(green beret's) do the same thing. And yes what you all named up that is what all the SF do only the NAVAL sf does the extra thing and that is (combat diving....). And I am not badmouthing the SAS lol. I am just saying that I don't care anymore who is best because every NATO sf is great and the best. TASK FORCE man, that is what I call superior. When they all get together. To wipe out thousends of bad guys.
bennyronny 1 year ago
@bennyronny sigh... SAS do combat diving. Why on God's green earth wouldn't they?
Just think logically for a minute - why would they go to the trouble of having a boat troop and overlook combat diving?
manchesterfellow 1 year ago
@bennyronny actually your right the us call themselves special forces if theyve undertaken over six months of training btw green berret is taken from the british royal marrines commando which started around ww2 as collaboration between usa and greatbritain so some shared history (:
ryama86 1 year ago
@bennyronny Boat Troops do all the same jobs as SBS but SBS have larger numbers at thier disposal for larger scale jobs. SAS is first and foremost a Close Recconaisance Unit apart from Counter Terrorist duties.
di55illu5ioned 1 year ago
@manchesterfellow There is an exchange system in place where the SAS and Delta permanently have a member posted with the other.
di55illu5ioned 1 year ago
@bennyronny ever hear of the SBS Special Boat Squadron of the Royal Navy? They can do everything the SAS do and also in water. The Americans invent a squadron and have this falacy about themselves being the world's best. Have they ever proved it though..no. But the SAS and SBS have.
sandyronnie 1 year ago
@sandyronnie The US navy has also a type of special forces just like the SBS and its just the same as SBS. SWCC. But SWCC only operates on "water" including riverine and other water inviorments. Go and do a search on youtube about SWCC its worth it. And YES the Navy SEALs have proven that they are the best. You don't have to be ignorant.
bennyronny 1 year ago
@bennyronny US SEALS world's best??? Only according to Americans.
Israeli special forces are red hot but even they admit they come second to the SAS and SBS.
An American calling somebody ignorant? That's like the pot calling the kettle black.
sandyronnie 1 year ago
@bennyronny all these special forces in america and shit are all based around the SAS as they are the best.
