  • This is Jim Carry's Oscar role and the dumb fucks overlooked that completely

  • Love Jim.

  • Perfect

  • 8 persons didn't understand andy's humour

  • best movie beginning ever.

  • 8 people left after the credits roll

  • Wonderfully impressive movie. Jim Carrey was brilliant as Andy Kaufman. When it comes to put Carrey's best films (in acting department) my vote authomatically goes to Man On The Moon and The Truman Show. He deserved the Oscar or at least being nominated for this award. Courtney Love was great too - very underrated as an actress.

  • @Magnolia296 Yeah I was skeptical he could pull it off....for one thing he looks nothing like Andy Kaufman. Still he did about as good of a job as anyone could have. His Elvis pales in comparison to Andy's though! :)

  • Comment removed

  • jim carrey did a alright job of representing andy, however the beginning part (this part) is the only part of the movie that felt really really kaufmanesque.

  • the "so" at 0:43 cracks me up everytime, jim carrey is brilliant

  • and he wasn't nominated for the oscar because?.........

  • please...what's the name of the music theme? kind regards

  • THE best opening ever!!!!

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEE THIS MOVIE!!!! :d

  • in the cinema when this happends they puts the lights on for make fun haha

  • That made me very uncomfortable for a second. But then again, it's Jim Carrey, and he was only beginning.

  • @tommiisan But then again its ANDY :D

  • Whenever I watch the intro,I can't help but thinking that when it was in theatres, how many people walked out of the theatre in frusteration.

  • @SamusEric

    Seriously?

  • OSCAR JIM CARREY!

  • yeah he really got screwed that year.

  • Well the oscars are for Fools

i dont try to offend anybody, i think that why in 1974 Al pacino lost the oscar for his amazing interpretation of Michael Corleone, and in 1992 he won the oscar but its too late, that oscar was now for Denzel Washington in Malcom X.

  • I REALLY hope people walked out of the cinema when they first saw this.

  • i think out of this whole move andy would of liked the credits the best

  • Lol think that some people have turned off the movie/tv when the credits came, and even more when everything went black

  • @Slazzy I knew instantly it was a prank, and laughed when my friend got upset and kept repeating : HE'S TELLING US TO LEAVE! Let's leave!

HAHAH! And for god's sake..we were in her HOUSE!

  • I'm trying to find that song too. I don't think it's on the soundtrack. Can't find it anywhere.

  • epic voice!!

  • ye does anyone know the song at the very start of the movie where it goes bum ba da bum ba da ba ba mm baaaaaaa

  • what is that bum bum song before this? also, what is the song which he plays from the record? I think it is the opening and closing theme from the movie Lassie.

  • even tho it was different, i wouldve been agitated just sitting there watchin him awkwardly handle the credits while evermore thinkn about how my $15 is being spent well....

  • JIM CARREY GOD OF COMEDY

  • the voice is funny hahah =D

  • I almost fell for this.xD

    Awesomeness on screen!

  • When I first saw this movie I was so confused. Right when I went to grab the remote when it was just a black screen, to see if something was wrong with the tv he stuck his head out. Good movie :)

  • oh my god, this is best comedy intro ever. i love you jim

  • Equally good as the intros of WILL SUCCESS SPOIL ROCK HUNTER? and THE GIRL CAN´T HELP it and I am 100%sure Milos Forman of course knew these classics when doing MAN ON THE MOON(but I am certainly not accusing M. F. of "stealing", he just got inspired and the result is FANTASTIC!).

  • I've watched this movie a bajillion times. I love Jim Carrey and Kaufman. They're two of my most favorite comedians, so this movie is just perfect.

  • mine too!!

  • haha i bet people walked out when it first came to theaters haha that was what andy was all about, just for his own entertainment and hopefully people would laugh too

  • Andy Kaufman is/was a pure genius...

"Ai cut out all de Balloni!"

  • the first time I saw this I thought WTF? But Andy Kaufman was a comedic genius, excellent done by Jim carrey!

  • if you read the credits it says:

    Tony Clifton.......Himself

  • The best performance among all actors of all time!!!

  • i can't believe this film is ten years old!

  • @direweasal i cant belive this comment is 2 years old!

  • I left the TV on when I went to bed last night and all of a sudden that music came on and i was like wtf. and then it started again and i though OMG SHUT UP! and then the 3rd time I got so annoyed I was like :@ and then the blackness came and i thought my tv broke or bbc finished :P

  • This intro always makes me laugh uncontrollably.

  • No, to the guy who said Andy didn't really die, he comes back at the end. That's Andy's brother at the end, not Andy himself. Although it makes you wonder doesn't it. Intresting.

  • Andy had a brother?

  • brother and sister

  • he did have a brother named michael.

  • supermovie

  • I remember it being a boring rainy afternoon just coming home from school looking for a good funny movie to watch. And I was browsing around the satalite. Seen this, looked at it. It said Jim Carry so I am like " damn this looks good. " Seen this, and I was like... wtf? Then I got into it and I just loved it. Seeing it really brought me to see what a genious Andy Kaufman is, this coming from a 15 year old to boot. Great movie, Jim was great playing Andy, and Andy, we truely lost a genious.

  • no way !! is that truth he didn't die ?!

  • yeah, thought in the end you can see bob zmuda is in the audience in that last performance of tony clifton in the end of the movie

  • I agree to those, who think it´s great movie, I really like it :D

  • didn't you hear the man?! he doesn't even like it himself. he wishes it was better, you know its stupid, terrible, HE doesn't like it. all of the most important things in his life are changed around and mixed up, for dramatic purposes.. LOL!!!

no, seriously though each to their own and all that sh*t... but msheedy1 ... your wrong!

your prob one of those folks who doesnt understand him, dont even wanna try. LOL!

  • your right i dont.

    each to there own

  • to both of u that to each his own

  • @gavcooper22 you tell it

  • One of Carrey's best performances!

  • that had to been hilarious to see that intro at the movie theater

  • guys im just corious, was it him at the end? after the he "died"? was the cancer all a hoax?

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

  • I really doubt Andy Kaufman would have wanted to abduct you in the night. Yeah... he was a bit freaky, much like every other human being on the planet! You obviously don't "get it" when it comes to his comedy / entertainment.

  • Your My new best friend!!

  • Yoou happen to be the only one who is not trying to chew my ass about being afraid of a comedian. He still gives me nightmares although I laughed during the film I start having an anxiety attack when I get to the "Surgery" scene. I invite you as my friend for noy chewing off my head or calling me a pussy.

  • Jim Carrey a great actor witch doesn't have any limits to his tallents in acting !

  • this is a perfecion in acting!bravo jim carrey!!!

  • I thought this was brilliant. Andy would definitely have approved.

  • A funny begin for a sad ending.

  • He Looks Kinda Scary here xP LOL

    But It Was Funny ;D

  • lmao....really hilarious

  • IMO, most original intro for a movie ever.

  • Its a good movie with a sad ending:(

  • most original intro i`ve ever seen

  • lol I remember this, it was funny!

  • One of the best movie intros of all time.

  • whats the song at the very beginning of the movie when its the the universal logo

  • I would like to know too. It 'is not in the original Soundtrack.

  • In the movie this is the Soundtrack to the movie "Lessie", but I am not sure...

  • I love Jim Carrey! He´s far the best actor in history i think:D

    AND the funniest:)

Man on the moon is a quite strange movie but really good:D See it!

  • can someone tell me what the symbol on the record is ?

  • That's just a simple device old record players had to keep the record held down on the turntable. Some old records had to be played at 78rpm. Its just there to steady everything.

  • I have no idea why, but for some reason, the music Andy puts on in this scene, gives me the chills. *shudders*

  • I don't find it frightening or anything. It just makes my blood run cold.

  • The reason why, discerning fan, is that this video is a cut n' paste FAKE. The real song is "Night Mouse", posted on this network. You were right not be fooled, and to get the creepazoids.

  • i had exactly the same feeling when i first saw the movie

  • i still believe that Kaufman is alive.

  • This movie is in my top 5 movies of all time.

  • I had never heard of this movie before, until I saw part of it on cable a couple weeks ago... this first scene had me cracking up - it's so incredibly funny!

  • Well, I live in Canada and everyone here seems to love the movie, and how Carrey protrayed Kaufman. I don't know why it didn't do so well in the US, it's a great movie...

  • Yup. As I said with my last post, it was virtually ignored here in the U.S. where I am from. It's too bad as it's truely a unique movie and easily the best of Carrey's career, with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind being a close second ...

  • Yeaaaah, Jim Carrey did an amazing job, it's like he played Andy Kaufman but with leaving some of rear taste of his personnality...

Epic Movie, definetly one of my favourite...

  • Spot on my friend. a seminal classic movie that was virtually ignored here in my home land of the U.S., as most of the few good studio films are. I saw it in a virtually empthy theater in Nashville, Tennessee with just my mother and I took one of my older brothers, and they'er were two guys in the balony.

pathetic. Ah well, it lives on DVD and one day another home video format, ect ...

  • Yeah I kind of feel that. In U.S, the spotlights are taken by big production companies, so independant movies like this one kind of disappears without leaving any trace on the box office.

But in my homeland (Tunisia), we're like, our theaters buy rights of mostly independant movies since they're cheaper and a film like this one had a pretty huge impact here (even that Andy Kaufman isn't that well known) Anyway, as you say it lives on DVD, and thank god there's always movies like this one.

  • Ah Bonjour,

Indeed Hollywood/Los Angeles with who my country employs will pretty much always dominant the cultureal 35mm film world, which isn't that great any more, since maybe like three to four great/very good films, I feel, get produced and shown everywhere.

French films and past decade films are my favorites. And indeed it is great that it lives on in the future. Thank God indeed and people like you who reconize real quality and somethin' different ...

    :D

  • Eh mais salut lol,

Yep that's true, the nineties had been a giant leap in cinema industry (Lock stock, Pulp Fiction) also french movies (at least some of them, because they're facing a bit like in the U.S. and everywhere actually)There's a movie made by fr Gondy with Carrey Eternal Sunshine... Jim was great in it too.

  • lol, i'm going to buy this TODAY!

  • You just made a great purchase in ordering it, my friend. :D It's easily Jim's best film. Too bad it's shit on. Many just wont get it ...

  • I don't know how anyone can fault Carrey for his portrayal of Kaufman, I reckon he did a fine job, and I was very impressed.

  • ..lol

he wasz so great in this movie

  • jim carey played a better andy kaufman then andy kaufman

  • wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow

  • CAREY DID AN AMAzING JOB! WHO THE HELL CAN TOUCH HIS AcTING ON ANDY KAUFMAN

  • disagree totally i watched loads of andy kauffman sketches and i think its a hard piece of characterisation, jim carey does him more justice than anyone else ever cud.

  • tenkiu very mach

  • look at those BIG eyes..."good bye. go. " no really, this is cool.

  • This movie is one of my favorites.

  • i wish it wasnt such a sad ending, makes me cry every time :(

  • you fucking morons, carrey did kaufman better than anyone else could.

  • No need for profanity.

After watching Man On The Moon 6 times I've decided to change my opinion, Carey did do a fine job.

  • Fuck you haleyfan and fuck you scream2day! Jim carrey is great comedian to all comedian movies ! Så fuck you both!

  • Although it does make sense since Carey practically idolized Kaufman.

  • you're 100% percent right Anchang!

imagine you were in the theatre when u saw this for the first time! (were u?)

anyway i LOVE andy and this movie :D

  • Yup, I was lucky enough to see it in a rather empthy theatre in late 1999, when it came out. ;)

I was living back in Nashville, Tennessee my old home city, when I took my oldest brother Bobby and my mother to see this, loving Andy and REM. I am still in love with this film, but especially the unique opening and closing titles.

Fuck the Academy Awards for not giving this any Oscars. It was ROBED ...

    :(

  • lucky you! :D

i saw this movie on tv with my dad. we both thought: WTF at the beginning XD. i learnt so much from this movie, jim carrey, andy, REM, taxi etc. (much more than on school anyway ;) it's my favorite movie ever

so andy, *thank you very much!*

  • I have to agree, the few of us that cought this (it sadly bombed at the North American box office) were very lucky indeed. ;)

I agree that we should all thank Andy. People took him so seriously, and he was just a unique and socially arkward person who used his fame & media to have fun. It wha he was all about ...

  • awsome

  • this is the best opening scene on a movie EVER

  • this is love ...
