Yea..we're in the beginning stages of planning our family/friends vacation in Hilton Head Isl SC. Wanna play a couple rounds of golf there too,but the beach and Savannah will be the main focus; What chorses do ya recommend...Robert T Jones seems to look really nice.....advice?
@Wayneman117 It's been a while since we've been there so I can't really say which courses to recommend. We always had good experiences with the courses in Palmetto Dunes. Hilton Head National is also nice. Sea PinesHarbor Town are nice but very very pricey.
@Wayneman117 Trent Jones in Palmetto Dunes is my first choice. I live on the Island and play Trent Jones often. Shipyard is reasonably priced and enjoyable to play. Harbour Town is the cream of the crop but expensive. Well worth the experience though. Try the Country Club of Hilton Head also. Good luck...contact me if you need more local recommendations.
@NickSkate7 I have to admit that when I was there I saw no surfer or boogie boarders, but then again the ocean was relatively calm each time I was there. I would imagine that there are days where it is possible.
@NickSkate7 Not really. Our shores our pretty shallow so the waves die off by the time they reach the shore. Try Burke's Beach on Hilton Head (in between Folly Field Beach and Palmetto Dunes Beach).
Of course it doesn't hurt to have CC&Rs that state: "No hurricane will pass over private or common areas without first obtaining prior written permission from the HHI Disaster Recovery Commission. When so obtained, the permitted path shall be that as established by the Planning Commission to aid in demolishing substandard buildings and facilities that the Town Council has been trying to get rid of for years, but the geezer owners just won't conveniently croak."
@CampKohler Believe it or not, we haven't really been affected by hurricanes... Of course, it's all just luck. The way the area is situated, most of the storms have hit land near the Florida/ Georgia border, then take the coast and died down before they get here.
@cohamilton99 I live in northern south carolina and in january the high here is usually in the high 30's or low 40's in hilton head just add 10 degrees. hope this helped! :)
@smartycummins2500 if you dont mind me asking what do you do for a living because ive always wanted to live in hilton head but i dont know what i would do there.
@DCOME94 Hilton Head is all about tourism. Most people around here work for shops in malls or shopping centers. There are a lot of personal businesses down here also
The Economy has freakin COLLAPSED DOWN HERE.. In the three fasted falling real estate markets, Hilton Head Island is tied for second place... Gulfstream, JCB,and Great Dane have all either laid off 25 percent of their workforce or closed up shop altogether... Outside of the historic district, Savannah is crime central..The entire SC coastal economy here was the Housing / Real Estate Boom of the last 10-15 years...Now that its over they want to sell 300K homes to people making 8$ an hour.. lol
rainmechanic: They said the same, when Jimmy Carter was prez. Compare this area with Michigan, where I'm from. Then compare this area with south Fla., where real estate imploded. Once we rid ourselves of the commie/islamist Obamessiah, things will turn around. Don't sell America short. Compare this area with Florida. No one with half a brain will move there, once they see the difference. And no one making $8.00/hr will buy here. The smart money will move here.
u said trafic cou,d be a problem, i bike everywhere when i go there, i mean everywhere, unless its really fancy dinner, i biked 24 miles just to get an icecream
lol i nearly stood on an Aligator, there were some stairs out the back off my little condo and i didn't see the Aligator resting there so i carried on walking. Then there was the hissing, so i stopped and walked around, and there seeing a 6 foot aligator lol :D
Like you say, it's nicest offseason. Too many tourists during the summer, especially in South Beach (Salty Dog Cafe inparticular). Crying babies galore, I avoid that place like the plague, the restaraunt is completely overrated anyway. Hudsons on the Docks is the spot.
i lived there 5 years ago it never looked that tropical. well now i live in hawaii so yeah maybe thats why but yeah it was cool there but it wasnt my favorite place to small
LOVE hilton head sooo much. my family goes every year. we basically go down there (palmetto dunes: captains walk) is where we stay and we know every person there. I love palmetto dunes tennis center! scotty is my favorite!
Been there. We were on an island and couldn't find the water. Well actually, just couldn't find a parking spot until one of the residents said it would be OK to park in one of his spots.

What about hurricanes? Will one come along one day and blow everything away? Does everyone have hurricane damage insurance?

@cohamilton99 The weather is probably in the 50 to 60 degree range around Christmas. A little on the cool side but still pleasant.
