Purtroppo non so l'inglese, spero voi capiate l'italiano. Non Italiani non dimenticheremo mai il grande coraggio degli eroici equipaggi dei bombardieri americani. Che con il loro sacrificio ci hanno aiutato a liberarci dall'oppressione dei nazisti. Thank you !
My Uncle Billy was a tailgunner on a B-17. He was on the 5th out of Australia. I never got to meet him. Us kids knew him from a picture on the wall in our house and a few stories that our Mom would tell that she heard from Grandma. She never got to meet him either. My Dad couldn't talk about him at all. He was his little brother.
The film was very enjoyable when it was released, but the producers descended into
'Top Gun' territory and jumped the shark with a convoluted storyline and a harrowing
final mission. None of that ever happened to the real 'Belle'. It sustained only superficial damage on Mission #6 and again on Mission #13. Its last six missions
before rotating home were 'milk runs' with little fighter opposition or flak. And in its
25 combat missions, a total of 31 different crewmembers flew in her.
First of all this movie is horse shit. The real Belle landed with no problem at all. If you want to see the real story, watch the real movie about the Belle.
@doginstine Dude its a movie what do you expect from Hollywood. Almost every movie that had to do with War (key word almost) had romance or some exaggerated part of the story.
The hollywood movie was absolute crap; but it made folks remember the courage of the people who bought our liberty with their blood... So I checked "like"
My favorite shot in the movie is the shot of the wheel still coming down as the runway is getting closer and closer.... seen this a dozen times and I still get chills at that shot.
where is the belle now, i know she is in dayton but is she still in dayton and i would think they would give that plane more care after what she has done throught out its history.
My compliments to the producers and directors of "Memphis Belle". I have watched this video of the "The Landing" a dozen times. Emotionally stirring is the only way I can describe this scene. It is such an excellent blend of believable sights and sounds, and wonderful sound track by George Fenton. What a great tribute to the brave men in the air and on the ground, and to the reliability of the B-17 itself. I have never seen a more moving final scene in any movie that I have viewed.

WWII was the key event that brought the USA out of it's deep economic depression, when nothing else worked...Hmmmm (Velociraptor tapping his claw on the countertop) Will History one day repeat itself?
and you will appreciate this movie and the men that served the Mighty 8th even more
there is no fiction in this movie..it all happened... just not to 1 Plane
Memphis belle was applauded and accoladed because it gave HOPE to air crews who felt they had no chance of going home ... i.e. avg life spane 6 missions...and no limit on missions in 1942-1943...
Yes hollywood took it's poetic license in this film...
But if you take time and study 8th AF history.. which btw, will never be taught in a HS or College in this country.,, you would find that every event that happened in this film was based on actually happenings to many B17 Crews during the Air Campaign in 1942 + til D- Day
Here's one you might not believe, a Tail gunner was blown out of a B-17, and mission, in his turret... he floated down to earth ( 4-5) miles and was captured
@Tubbytoobs Yes, Hollywood often takes license with history and that's the only negative point to make here. The film keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The story of the Belle's 25th mission can be seen at archive.org in it's entirety for free. In addition, the plane was rescued from scrap and is in Memphis undergoing complete restoration. Still, we both love this movie!
@LGTheOneFreeMan I think it lives in Geneseo, NY now. It was there yesterday when I went to the museum and the employee I talked to said that it stays there.
Yes sort of , but everything that they (Hollywood) portray as happening to this plane Memphis belle, actually did occur on many B17s in 1942-1945
The Memphis belle crew was the first to survive 25 missions in the Air war over France and Germany... the average life span of a crew member in 1942-1944 was 6 missions..
Fear GOD who hath power to cast you into HELL(Luke 12:5)! Fear God and depart from evil(Proverbs 3:7)! God is ANGRY with the wicked everyday(Psalm 7:11)! Jesus Christ is the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE, there is NO OTHER WAY to be saved(John 14:6)! For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved(John 3:17)! TURN FROM YOUR SINS AND SUBMIT 2 THE LORDSHIP OF JESUS CHRIST NOW! DON'T BOAST OF HAVING TOMORROW! Proverbs 27:1
Harold P. Loch - Top Turret gunner; Cecil Scott - Ball Turret gunner; Robert Hanson - Radio Operator; Jim Verinis - Co-Pilot; Robert K. Morgan - Pilot; Charles B. Leighton - Navigator; John P. Quinlan - Tail Gunner; Tony Nastal - Right Waist Gunner; Vince Evans - Bombardier; Clarence E. "Bill" Winchell - Left Waist Gunner.
@Dresden09 Lest we Forget. Thank you to your father and to all the other members of the allies who fought and died for our freedom during those dark hours.
The 15th was created during the Missions that took about 600 B17s to Regensburg and Schweinfurt Germany to hit the Ball bearings works and Messerschmidt factories.... the raid to Regensburg meant that the v\crews could not get back to UK, and were to create abase in Africa.. the 15th Af to hit the underbelly of Europe and eventually Ploesti...
That raid hit the US Hard 60 planes lost x 10 crew = 600 men.. they could not go back ...mtf
A beautiful moment from a truly heart-warming film...and one that proves that the best war films don't feature absurdly exaggerated bad guys as hate figures. They just show ordinary people being called on to do extraordinarily things.
Thank you so much for loading this clip. This is my favorite part of one of my favorite movies. Brings tears to my eyes to think that this really happened to countless crews over Europe/Pacific, Thank God for them
Phil played by db sweeny is the best. At the start of the film hes convinced hes going to die and is terrified but at the end hes the one who refuses to give up and saves the whole crew by getting the second wheel down.
i'm guessing it didn't have power steering he seems to be fighting it alot hah respect to all the faught and they will never be forgotten .... great movie too :)
Great movie, but historically inaccurate. Aside from the fact that the Memphis Belle didn't come back from her 25th mission in such a sorry state, Bremen was not the final target she was sent to bomb. (It was Wilhemshaven.)
Also, not all of her crew did their 25 missions aboard her. Her right waist gunner on her 25th mission (Casimer 'Tony' Nastal) flew HIS 25th mission aboard the Memphis Belle, but his 24 previous missions on other bombers.
i wonder if he is the guy holding up his hands in the Wyler documentary, , slapping his browning... almost looked like he had a few coming back... anyone??
I love this scene. Real heroes back then and today.
