Man that sure looks like fun! Would love to see your part of the world on my Xr650L. Good riding here in the states but would love to see something different. Thanks for sharing!
maybe they cant afford the new CRF or WR but just wanted to go trail riding with there friends , not everyone in NZ is a millionair man . they had fun , thats all that counts .
i have an 08 230l is that the same one as yours. is there a difference between american and aussie or new zeland. i mine had an azz load of smog stuff that i ripped off
Mine is a 2004 230F in stock form as it came new from the shop.
Don't think there's much anti smog stuff on it.
Bikes that come here new can be a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes they are leftovers from US markets with miles per hour speedos for example. Sometimes left overer from other markets with Km/hr speedos.
Of course as this CRF was an F model it had no speedo, but the manual mentions "U - Australia (with headlight)" in a couple of places.
Fantastic video. I also have a crf 230 ( not the dual sport model) I ride a BMW r1150rt on the street. Why does it seem there is always someone trying to say we are polluting too much? Volcanoes pollute more in one hour than all the motorcycles of the world can in a year. Love to join you if I ever get to your corner of the world.
I'm glad that offroad motorcycling is restricted in Finland's big national parks. These guys are riding pretty nicely, which is good. But still I wouldn't like to spoil crystal clear rivers with chain/motoroil and clean swamp meadows with half meter deep spoors.
It's more rewarding to get to these places by hiking/cycling without destroying that beautiful scene. Respect.
No National parks in this video. It's all public roads and private farmland.
We paid a toll for the farmland access.
Having done a bit of cycling and more hiking I must say I prefer the thrill of taking a motorcycle on my adventures now days. It takes a lot more energy and requires a different skill set from other modes of travel such as pedel power or walking.
The camera I'm using is the same kind of thing as you find at
helmetcamera com au
or
helmetcamz co nz.
It was mounted on top of my helmet (that's my favourate position when sticking it on a helmet as I don't like the slight angle when it's put on the side of the helmet
The helmet camera sends an analogue signal to the handicam in my backpack which records on to miniDV tape.
I had a fair few tools and spare bits like a tube and patchs, tie wire, zipties, assorted nuts, bolts etc, small can of WD40, spare sparkplug, some Quickmetal putty, spare chain link, a rag. All the standard stuff along with survival things like my lunch and survival blanket/bit of first aid gear.
We had to use 3 chain links to fix one guy, but if you keep an eye on matainance, chains and cables etc shouldn't give any trouble. He was new, didn't know any better.
Great vid guys! Love your ride down there. Looks like god's country for dual sports. Lookin to adopt a 34 year old? I enjoy the west texas riding we have, but that bit of Earth looks like THE place to be. Post up all the tape you have!
Yes he would have owned the rixde over the others except he was only on his second ever off the seal ride and was a bit unprepaired.
As you can see the very first puddle stopped him dead, then his chain broke, balding road bias tyres etc etc. He was worn out by lunch time. I still admire the bike though.
wow! you have the best land ever to ride on!!! i live in illinois and there is nothing at all like that around here. i live in "flat country". love the vid!
This is the bloke with the AT! Well, I sold it before I left NZ, but occasionally keeping up with Transalper. At was a great bike, just a little heavy for wet mud. Have I learned? Probably not, I just bought a Cagiva Elefant 900. It's over 40kg lighter apparently but similar dimensions. We just don't have the access to land like that anymore.
I'll be back. Might even bring the Cagiva to see how it copes with real trail rides!
Transalper- great vid, thanks for posting it. Be in touch.
I hooked up with the rest at Whiterock, (Nth Loburn). Rode over the Okuku Pass in toward Lees Valley then on to private property by prior arrangement at a place called The Brothers.
He's back in the UK now. We do have another guy that joins us from time to time from down Timaru way. Still waiting on you to get yours out and join us again too.
keep on riding boys

GREAT video! I'm buyin' a CRF230L tomorrow. What did you have to do to it to get it running after the dunking?
aTellerOfTruths 3 years ago
Tip it up on it's back wheel to drain the pipe.
Remove the plug and crank the engine until it stops spitting water out the spark plug hole.
Remove the air filter and squeeze it out, do not twist it because that tears the foam cells, just squeeze the crap out of it.
Put plug and filter back on and start it.
If it don't go, try draining the carby fuel bowel.
Also pays to check the oil to see if it has turned white. Mine was ok but gave it a change anyway when I got home.
Have fun with yours too.
