  • seen him live a million years ago he had a million dollar aura better than anything Ever different league

  • my mum and dad had this on VCR for years and years thankfully or i may never have discovered matt as i was only 9 when it was the telly! Scotland is much poorer for his death.

  • what a great pity there is only that one piece of him filmed .what a rich archive he produced.anyone who has listened to his song we will have a mayday can but fail to realise what a powerful writer and socialist he was

  • That was Adam McNaughtan singing at the end there on the "Magic Picture Show" so where was Robbie Coltrane - maybe just glimpsed him on far left at the start of the shot?

  • Matt McGinn was a better singer than Billy Connolly by miles. Funnier too.

  • He wrote a song for me in 1970 when I got engaged

  • Theres not too many people like Matt McGinn, Matt lived next close tae us on Ross St. in the Calton. Ive read his book, it`s really good , got some of his old tapes. Matt became so well read & inteligent, that`s what lead to his political Social views. Glasgow council stuck it to him big time, now we have people who are lightweights in most capacitys.

I was too young to know him & his brother James , though My Dad was great Pals wae them. But i sure sang his songs tae my kids. Matt was real.

  • @jinkysawers Connolly is a sad person who would sell anything to make a few pounds - he has even sold what he says to be his sexual abuse. Everything for connolly has a price ticket. McGinn was a socialist, which Connolly never was - sell ma granny, or ma weans, of course I'll sell them

  • @AggiedeLampedusa Interesting view, i read the big yins book, thought it was very well written, just my opinion. Billy C is brilliant & so so talented, Aggie he only told the truth in his book, a cathartic purge if you will. OK Cheers & all the best.

  • @jinkysawers i would vote solidarity if it were not for the populist masses, as it stands SNP offer the best hope for scotland however I do not agree with all of their policies... I would be delighted to hear from other that are in the same boat as i, that believe that scotland is cabable of governing itself but that it is socialist reform that we need before it is possible. the rest of the world can govern itself - we dont need to concern ourselves with the,, let us fix scotland,

  • @DugEatinBeetroot ,,,Well said Mr Dug !!! in many ways Scotland could just be like like Sweden, Denmark etc, independent. The main problen is religion, certain people adore the crown , certain people dont, so in essence the Union still stands, & the Irony is half of them dont even attend church, its such a yawn ey !!! ok mate cheers....

  • hey billy hiv yi heard yir ain voice. i thought we awe sang like that. AND yir banjo playing isnae up tae scratch. if it wisnae for yir patter, yi wid be a bummer. no even a humble bummer. respect the feelings and poetry of a true glesga man

  • my dad knew matt not sure how they met but used a room at the top of our flat at eglinton toll to make recordings when I was a kid and will never forget being ever so facinated and mesmarised by his music which I still love to this day

  • bonnie lassie rise an dress yersel the day we mun be early, were marchin intae glagae toon wi jimmy reid an airly,,,,,brilll

  • yup you are all right , dodgy timing a heavy bevvy etc etc but by christ a humanitarian , my old dad new Matt through believe it or not, ordnance survey (when they were boys) then unions , he looked my dad up in EK when he was visiting relatives long time ago I was so proud , Matt was brilliant.

  • whats the name of the song he sings in the beginning....!?

  • billy tels some great stories of matt, but, when you say he could,nt sing!

he had a voice of porridge and broken glass!

and where the fuck is a video of him singing, loch lomond?

if only the smithsonian instetute had paid more attention when he played carnagie hall?

theres only 1 version of ,loch lomond, and thats matts ,it,s like listening to jim reeves sing ,he,ll have to go!

  • Great man, saw him in Glasgow 1960?

  • Comes from the heart! the sooner we all realise that the better off we'll all be!

  • Great tribute , excellent

  • fantastic, great tribute.

  • Billy Connolly's a good comedian, never in a million years will he ever match Matt McGinn for his commitment to humankind and the working classes.

It matters not whether he kept in tune, he touched the heartstrings of so many, much more important.

    Stick to comedy, Billy.

  • Billy's Humblebum days along wi' Tam Harvey an' later Gerry Rafferty were a fantsatic era for them. Billy's earlier recordings with the sweary words were hilarious...he doesnt need the sweary words...

  • Love all Matt's stuff, especially the "live" CD with "My Wee Auntie Sarah"

  • a fitting tribute..to a wee glesca man..who i also like billy used to back at gigs,,,especially at the howwood inn sunday night folk club...i loved the man..bill is right his timing was always dodgy...but who cares

  • The man was a genius. Brought up on his music; through his records and singin' of his songs in our family hame. May his star shine bright.

  • Great, thanks a million for posting.

  • What a great Tribute!

Thanks so much for sharing this gem :)

    5***** and faved
