Thank you so much for posting this. She seemed to be a genuine person. I can't help but to feel sad when I think that now, with her passing, the world has lost its human connection to Titanic, and all we are really left with are the man made artifacts. That, coupled with the fact that the remains of the ship are so far away and so difficult to reach, makes it even more difficult. But I guess this is the same with all historical events i.e, the last Civil War veteran to die, the last WWI vet.
You really do understand the signifcance of her her passing. Not many do. You analogy of other vets has always been my point. For example, one day the last person is going to pass away who was maybe that 5 year old boy that was there when Kennedy was shot, even if he doesn't remember much either.... that human connection, a living witness that was at a historical event read in history books....
Yes she certainly was a beautiful lady, and like you I still feel it a privilege to have met her and the odds of me meeting her had to be God arranged because, truly you wouldn't believe what the odds and the circumstances were at the time. When you met her in 2001, it was around that time that she began slowing down her appearances abroad, except closer European engagements. Thanks for sharing that.
What a great loss it is with the passing of Millvina Dean. As you can see from both my vids, she states she enjoyed the acclaim and to grant people the opportunity to meet her or write her. I had a great afternoon with her, and she became a fast friend indeed. Now in Gods' keep, and at last, to meet the father she never knew, best wishes to you, Millvina
What a nice video. Titanic International Society has had the pleassure of having Millvina at a few of our conventions as well. I was happy to meet with her and talk with her at length. May she rest in peace.
And talk at length she could eh?! She was so engaging you could talk all afternoon and never be bored. After reading more of her biography, she had such an interesting life, i wish I could have asked more beyond the Titanic. I wonder how many have videoed their meeting Millvina over the years? I hope more people post them up on Youtube if they did.
What a thrilling experience to hear Millvina give this personal interview! having met her at the conventions for the Titanic Historical Society, I thought she was a wonderfully energetic and enthusiastic lady! I shall remember her always!!! Please check out my Titanic tributes here, on YouTube! P.S. I have a copy of the same book in this video! Copyright, 1912!!!!
You got that book?! You have my envy! Just for the record, the reason this woman brought her copy (found at a garage sale) was to have Millvina autograph it!!!! Imagine that on ebay....
She has a very good friend who lived in Edmonton and he asked her if she would guest at a fund raising dinner in Red Deer Alberta. She also has relations in the area so she agreed and had done that a few times before as stated in the newspaper article about her visit, and always enjoyed visiting Canada. I found out about her visit while I was living in Edmonton by accident, as it was just one of those nights I couldn't sleep and turned on the late news just as they told of her plane arriving.
Well like I put in the video, I couldn't believe how snooty this guy was. He was there the whole time, and you see him seated on a couch in my other vid. You just had to be there to get the real sense of this fellow. He was just walking around and acting so stuck up that his face had no problem showing it and even in this vid had to be told to smile from his mommy. Nothing personal here, just a fact and thought I gotta get a shot of him. That's all... 8^D
Sharing both your videos on Rhyoln's Birthdays PAge on Facebook in honour of Millvina's birthday. Thank you so much for posting these.
