GORGEOUS! Was that an alpha-hydrogen lens you used in the first part of this? I got to work with one of those at an astronomy event I volunteered at this summer. I got a huge case of the "I WANTSES!" lol!
David, THANK YOU for placing that video on Youtube. It really brings back the all memory. The sound track is also nice and very helpful for reconstructing the sequence of impressions. Everything is there: comments in 3 languages, Nikita' s world-famous whistles, the sound of the sparrows, and one can even listen to Gerd an me discussing the visibility of lunar detail in binoculars (this was the first time I saw it).
WOW. Thank you! This is awesome and humbling. We all need to witness one of these! We need look no further than a total eclipse, to compel us to consider the very strong evidence for existence of a 'higher order' in our universe! I mean, whether you believe in God or not,-is it a mere coincidence that at our Moon's diameter, it's distance from us on Earth, -coupled with our distance from the Sun, are ALL just right to cause such a powerful spectacle from Earth? -Is this mere chance,or design??
@Fuff63 Good point you make. I've also wondered if the apparent size of the moon and sun being the same, give or take some, which causes such spectacular eclipses is a coincidence or something more.
Very nicely done. It's cute that a couple is or was just married (she has wedding dress it seems). I have taken 3 total eclipse videos and yours it really nice. Only thing missing is showing the shadow coming in. Congrats!
What a great video! This video not only shows good views of the eclipsed sun, including partial phases, but also how the sky gets dark during totality. It also shows how the chromosphere is visible for about 10 seconds before totality ends, and how the people watching this awesome show get excited about it all. I missed this solar eclipse, but have seen 4 others and it brings back great memories. I bet some of those eclipse chasers are already looking forward to their next one!
Thanks for your nice comment, Abitibidoug. It was a really fun eclipse. I've seen 9 and I'm a total addict. I love the whole adventure of getting to them.
My only regret with this one was not having gone to wide-angle sometime during totality in order to show the planets as well - but with only 2 minutes 18 seconds it all gets a bit hectic and you don't want to be seeing it through a camera all the time, just leave the camcorders running and enjoy a naked eye view.
WOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

No, it's a total solar eclipse, jacobey3. Like the one coming up on the 22nd July.

They said that they also seen Venus coming through, so why didn't they show it to us. That would be really interesting!
