Fact Check: Louis CK isn't white, he's an Irish-Mexican jew. Also, notice, I am not defending black comics who point out black/white dichotomies. It's no news that bigotry is not exclusively white. Also note, racial comedy is inherently part of the overarching racial discourse dating back centuries, which cannot be divorced from the perpetrators (mainly white america) of slavery, genocide, colonialist, AND racial ideals. Hence: Yeah, whites have power, but also responsibilities. Take both.

'sides louie doesn't claim whiteness (see interview on fresh air) only white privilege. i know not wanting power (read privilege) would mean not accepting responsibility, but that's not ur choice--it's what you were born into, as much as i was, and i will claim my positionality with all its historic references and it's not my job to try to ease white guilt by claiming that these histories don't affect current racial disparities

since when do we get to dictate how human cultural identity needs to be performed? by whose standards and why? it's a matter of power and your judgment is not irrelevant, it exactly what the u.s. gov't did when they handed those "gift" blankets to the natives. i disagree: if it weren't for racism, a lot of people wouldn't have marginalized identities, which is something different altogether. we'd embrace human difference instead of trying to assimilate other cultures to western ideals

and my point wasn't judging other cultures. my point is how there is no self reflection in this country and no one gives a shit about the context of anything anymore. although it happened, the government killing off the native americans should have no bearing on a joke. censorship used to try to prevent violence or chaos like yelling Fire in public, but now people think its abused to protect people from hurt feelings and a ridiculous culture has spawned out of it over the past 10 years or so

i agree with you on the pc thing, but one thing that also needs to be considered is: there is not one vantage point in this scenario. what may be funny to you may not be to another for a variety of reasons, including historic context of racial relations, and we can't invalidate their life experience in this conversation. transcendence (post-racial) is a good thing, if at all possible. but everyone moves at their own pace; i cannot be told what to do or how to react when the situation arises

have you ever stopped to consider that you're not necessarily the target audience for the joke? i happen to find cristela's stereotyping of her mom funny because I identify with it, that's not to say she hasn't given you an invitation to identify; it's just, the invitation doesn't say: you can stereotype my mom, too. you can stereotype other cultures, many comedians do, but at this point be prepared to defend ur choices without saying "well, she's doing it, why can't I?" that's simply non-unique

with identification comes division (i identify with this and this is not that)--this is the nature of jokes, and human language across cultural boundaries, in terms of capitalizing on this? yeah--i just don't follow their comedy, but i don't blame them for playing this card. does it create divisions? Yup, but not more than the ones already existed. transcendence is quite a beautiful thing, but divisions create hierarchies and racial hierarchies is a sensitive issue given the historic context

i know you shouldn't ignore history, but when the situation has gone so far into the positive that it's like innocent people getting the death penalty in a lot of areas, there has to be a point where you go "well, that stuff in the past might as well have not even happened." why carry the torch just because we simply still look like people who did awful things. people do repeat history, but I can't really see slavery in america being one of them
